Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted November 26, 2003 I was strolling across CZWFans tonight and I saw this thread which piqued my interest, I was wondering what you guys think: When I posted the topic about the Scorpio Sky last night I didn't think it would come back to bug me. I woke up this morning I read a response from a person who I haven't seen post on this board before. This person has been around but I haven't paid much attention too until today. This is what the person said about the interview:Quote: Interviews done in kayfabe usually arent very good. This one is no exception. It really bugged me. I don't understand but it got to my head. This person wasn't satisfied because of the lack of insider information. I felt it was very disrespected the buisness by making a comment like that and felt that he disrespect Mase(the person who conducted the interview) the most. Mase tried real hard and did a good job on his interview. But that's not what i'm complaining about. As I was hangin around my house watching an episode of Jerry Springer, I felt it wasn't as good as it normaly is. So I poped in a video tape of WM 12 and watched and started to think about when the internet didn't play as much of a role for me as it does today when it comes to wrestling. I remembered that one comment about kayfabe and started to think "Why are some people obsessed about getting insider stuff?" I remember when my older brother and I would watch shows like Action Zone and Susperstars on the weekends and thinking it was all real. I was young and believed a lot of what I was told. My older brother started high school and became less interested when he discovered the truth about wrestling and how it was predetermind. It didn't influence my views on professional wrestling. I just kept watching and "marked out" for moves that where preformed. At that point of my life wrestling was what I was all about. As my brother left for college I started to watch shows religously. I loved wrestling so much that I wanted to share my love of wrestling with my little brother. I started to show him tapes and we'd watch wrestling all the time. That's when I knew why I loved it. Because I had someone to share this expierence with. Two years ago my little brother started hanging out with a different crowd and fell out of wrestling as he entered the fifth grade, I continued to watch on my own since I know my little sister wouldn't want to watch. But I that time I had nobody to share my love with. But that changed when I got the internet. I didn't know much about the internet wrestling websites. I went on my first website TPWW.NET and saw things that I never saw before. These people where giving spoilers to shows and giving out insider information. I knew the buisness was about writing and the matches where predetermind, but didn't want people to spoil it for me. Like with movies, you want to discover what happens and what the ending is gonna be withou someone telling you what happens. The same thing goes for wrestling. I don't want to know who is gonna win or what is gonna happen. To me that is when the fun is taken out of wrestling. I hate it when people go on the internet just so they can find insider information and such. Many people talk about how the fun and mistery is gone and how a lot of people are concerned about being insiders and giving out spoilers. I am one of them. I wish wrestling had less of these people who have to breakdown matches and talk about stuff like lack of psychology in matches and more people who talk about things like unexpected heel turns, TV shows, predictions on what you think will happen and what you want to see in wrestling insted of people doing "jobs" or how bad a match was. I wish people can just forget about all that and do what wrestling is ment to be doing, enjoying it. Not being so critical about it. For those of you who are trying to get "insider" information and who want to post spoilers on message boards, I want you to say this: You know how most of you bitch about how bad wrestling sucks and all that and you wish it wasn't like that. It's not because they're doing a bad job, it's because your too picky and try to break wrestling down to simple formulas and such. And please stop posting stuff like spoilers and such because there are still a few people like me who want to keep the mistery and fun in wrestling insted of having to put up with people who complain about interviews with lack of spoilers or break down matches so much. And to those who at least warn us about spoilers, thank you for warning me. Please keep in mind this is all from the heart and that I didn't sugarcoat this or anything. I just typed what was on my mind and didn't have time to correct my spelling. Here's the rest of the thread http://www.czwfans.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=21753 I'm basically in agreement with most of this sentiment. Through this column gig, I've had the pleasure of interacting with a lot of wrestlers and staff, and through these interactions, I've learned a lot of backstage stuff and the intimate details of the pasts and personalities of certain guys. However, a lot of it is stuff I wish I didn't know- it destroys my illusions about certain people, and I wish I had those markish illusions back. Also, at times I catch myself getting too worked up over wrestling, and then I pull back and realize how stupid it is. There genuinely are times I wish I was just a mark, having fun watching TV and not caring what happens as long as it's wrestling.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2003 Because it makes us feel clever and less ashamed of being grown men who still enjoy fake wrestling?
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2003 The Internet and the easily accessible amount of "insider" info definitely has changed my pro wrestling viewing habits. I'm much more obsessive when it comes to finding out all kinds of trivial facts and stuff like that. I learned in some of my communication classes why this is so important. The majority of wrestling fans are men. Men base their communication primarily on competition, whether sounding better or more knowledgable than the people they are talking with. As pro wrestling fans, we become smarks so we can have more to know/discuss about wrestling than our less interested/smarkish friends. Actually, this can be applied to anything.
