The following column is a guest column written by MLW's Samu in reply to the recent columns written by Marcus Dowling and Eric Walker regarding the situation in the Philadelphia market with MLW and Ring of Honor.

The writer's opinions are his own, and represent only his own opinions, and not that of PWBTS.

Dishonor in drinking the Kool-Aid

This has been a very interesting week for fans in the northeast and I felt it was overdue that a vet chime in who has seen real promotional wars and petty bickering before. This is not a promotional war first of all. We have seen words from the ignorant telling fans to not support wrestling that helps in turn to pay and feed us the talent and keep steady work and keep a business that is sick from regenerating. That is a major part of the problem with Indies today.

Unfortunately, as with any form of change, some people are upset about the new direction of MLW. In order for this restructuring/hiatus to be successful they needed to put their product back out ASAP obviously so they could keep the hiatus as short as possible and keep their brand alive. Since MLW and most of its talent is based in the Northeast, the quickest and most productive way to do that was to start booking shows in&nbsbsp;the northeastern region as well as Florida. They still book the majority of their shows in buildings that have hosted shows featuring top notch Indy and high profile groups like: ECW (National Armory) JCW (Rexplex), ROH (Rexplex /National Armory), WEW (National Armory) WXW, hell even the top company WWE (rexplex) have all run and as one of the boys I can tell you: a building is a building and if people think anyone has turf rights, they don't understand the business or are ignorant. Just like in Japan, as more people run shows in these buildings and companies rent these same buildings, the venue begins to develop an established profile like Korakuen Hall. And yes, the talent and matches often overlap in Japan with the smaller companies.... no one in the northeast is beyond the indy level. Indy wrestling isn't about exclusivity. It's about delivering what you're not getting in the mainstream and hopefully without Internet rhetoric.

Also, as a worker I know I speak for the boys when I say that anyone in the business knows MLW's recent added events in the north east isn't a threat to any other promotion. I've been in this business for 20+ years and my family for much longer and for someone to see it as a threat is delusional and ultimately just hurting what we all love to do: participate and/or support wrestling. What I mean is this: fans and talent don't drink the Kool Aid, Indy wrestling is Indy wrestling and it's meant to be fun and rewarding for those involved at every level, from the fan being entertained and engaging in the show to the talent and companies who hopefully find it creatively and financially rewarding. If someone is saying you stole company "X"'s wrestler or pick a team, they aren't looking out for anyone's interest but their own in an attempt to manipulate or have their own interests at stake because no one is signed to a contract. Hell, most of us have worked together in these same towns a million times.

From where I stand as one of the boys, MLW's efforts in the Northeast offers another avenue for the local "unknowns" and established Indy stars to showcase their talent. During the restructuring, MLW kept the majority of it's talent like Corino, Vampiro, Funk, Low Ki (who is soon debuting with them) Simon Diamond & CW Anderson, Punk, Daniels, my family, Matt Martel, etc. They've also added people who haven't even wrestled in the north east before like Bobby Quance, Harry Smith, Havana Pitbulls, Persephone, Mike Modest (in over a year), Taiyo Kea (in over a year), etc.

There is an abundance of talent in this independent wrestling market. Notice I said independent wrestling. Essentially that means the wrestlers (us) are not contractually obligated to one promotion and are able to work for whomever we choose. MLW are trying to provide us the boys, as are the other promotions, the opportunity to work as much as possible. That not only benefits MLW and it's fans but all the promotions in the area. It will help to expand fan bases as well as increase the quality of the shows by giving the boys more chances to develop their skills. This isn't WWF vs. WCW. This is wrestling at the ground level with a lot of heart but sadly some unnecessary drama. And trust me, anyone who pushes wrestling promotion loyalty is just the boys and working the fans (see: kool aid) since everyone in this day and age needs something to believe in. But just remember the results... no one wins except for the one doing the hating and that my friend isn't honorable... it's dishonorable.

Anyone who dares to put forth a delusional us vs. them mentality is only trying to hurt the fans, trust me I've seen it before and I'm seeing it again. It's an unfortunate thing and not only the fans,, but the talent and companies will all hurt from that negativity and I can see from my dealings with MLW and a few other groups like World 1 Wrestling, WXW, etc. in the area that isn't their vibe. But sadly, it is the vibe of others.

The bottom line is, this can work for everyone and I felt compelled as one of the boys to write this and give fans a true business perspective. I along with many in my family are involved in MLW. We will be working in the ring and helping Court (who my father and I trained in 1996 and is one of my family's own) in the office. The company's goal is this: to help deliver an inexpensive quality product without delusions of grandeur or player hating. All we ask is that you wait until we get things rolling before you make any judgments. Our new goals of running in markets from the north east and our home base of Florida will only make our product that much stronger, and that in the long run will benefit you the fans and the talent, ultimately helping everyone.

PWBTS could stand for PrimadonnaWalrusesBeingTritelySassy.com.

Really, I'm not trying to be a prick, although it seems like I am. It's just that some people question it when I copy and paste stuff and don't credit the site I get it from, which I actually almost always do, so I feel it unfair if I or other people dont' do the same thing with others. So that's why I said it. And if someone didn't know what PWBTS was, which is ENTIRELY possible, it wouldn't matter that it was even mentioned. Crediting the site with its web address (you don't even need the www, just the domain) is the right thing to do.

Well that was a lucky fucking guess. But it proves not everyone (intentionally) knows what it stands for.

Yeah, because the secret internet police are going to come into this forum and cite Dave with a violation because he didn't credit his source.

What, haven't heard of the internet police? They drive dune buggies and listen to Yanni.
