The problem with match endings in the WWE.

Recommended Posts

I also think you have to look at the fact, it seems, that 90% of matches end with some type of run-in/interference/foreign object/wacky ending. It doesn't really make sense to develop a variety of finishers, when the finisher has minimal effect on the outcome anyway. Just get the screwiness out of the way, hit your normal finisher, and end the match.

When you get the clean matches (ex. Angle/Benoit) is when they can develop the new finishers, because they have thrown everything at each other and can't keep them down. When you have a match with a chair shot, it doesn't make sense to bust out a new finisher when the chair shot ended it basically.

I think it can be agreed that the Tombstone or the Pedigree are BY FAR the most over finishers of the WWE.

The problem with the Pedigree is that its pretty fucking contrived. it's a slow finisher, and it never looks good when it's reversed. Ironically I enjoyed rocky reversing it into a small package than the current standard, drop the arms, back body drop reverse that we see so much today.

The tombstone done by the undertaker is damn over, and seems like it will be forever.

But I agree with the posts complaining about WWE quality. Of course. The WWE is far less concerned with getting finishers over than it is with getting catchphrases over.

But ... what if they had a guy ... whose catchphrase ... was his finisher?

To the best of my knowledge, Booker T has used the Harlem/Housten Hangover only twice on WWE TV. Once as the finish to his match with Big Show at Vengeance '02 (when it popped the crowd huge) and once at WM XIX on HHH, where he fluffed it a bit and HHH kicked out (naturally).

Well, if he used it more often, it would fit the criteria for the SUPER FINISHER a la the Tiger Driver '91. That is, if it actually got the win each time it was used.

Agreed, although the fact that HHH has already kicked out of it would make the job of getting it over as a 'super finisher' rather more difficult. That said, it would be nice if he busted it out maybe every 6 months in the really big matches. I can't see why he doesn't really (hmmm...maybe because he isn't getting much in the way of really big matches?)
