Tiger is making a next-gen Game.com

Laaame, why don't they just toss in the towel and become an actual game developer? With the right concepts and ideas they'd probably make a lot more cash.

The N-Gage was a disaster, and the PSP/Tapwave Zodiac/etc are all going to be jockeying for market share. I don't this ending well.

They had some cool hand-held standalone games back in the day, though.

"At present, the only game revealed is reliable old Tomb Raider, seemingly made available for every device that gets a release."

Is it appropriate to call Lara Croft a whore?

I think that Nintendo will continue to hold a Ea Sports-esque grasp over the handheld market.

Just like Madden and Live still outsell every other sport franchise sheerly on familiarity despite other games being better, Nintendo has the handheld on lock. I still think that Sony will have a hard time cracking into it, even if their machine is better. When people see handhelds, they think Gameboy.

I think it would be more appropro to liken it to "the NES back in the 8-bit era" situation, except for the exclusivity agreements. That's just fine by me, because I hate the thought of these new handhelds wiping out the last bastion of 2D gaming.

Trivia: Early in development of TR1, she was called Lara Cruz. She does look more Latina than W.A.S.P., actually.

I could mention that Nintendo was easily the top console when the PSX was released.

My faith in Nintendo to be able to compete has been severely curtailed.

If Sony's handheld costs less than $200, they will probably own Nintendo in about a year.

...And without their virtual handheld monopoly, Nintendo is in BIG trouble

Current word is that the PSP will cost $300 at launch, so that's no gonna happen Mike. I don't think the PSP is going to FAIL- I just think it's going to succeed without hurting the GBA all that much. Create it's own sub-market and build from there.

Until the price gets down to even with the GBA (the magic $99 price point) the PSP will be missing out on where the GBA gets its most sales- cheap parents (where the Gamecube is getting a lot of sales from now). They sure as hell aren't gonna pay $300 or even $200 for a handheld system when they could get a GBA for $200-$100 less- remember, cheap parents don't care about how GOOD the sytem is.

As for this Game.com, yay, another handheld system to fail. When will these idiots (Tiger, Nokia, Tapwave) realize that it's the GAMES that matter, not the hardware? PSP will be a relative success because Sony realizes this and will have a good launch library, not just good hardware.

Assuming they do have a good launch library, and they just don't throw out rehashes of first-gen PS1 titles. Enough of the ports, too. It works for the GBA because they're usually porting truly classic games that were originally loved by older gamers, but still look and play well enough for younger gamers to latch onto as if they were GBA originals.

Although, if Sony's smart they'll line up some good developers to provide some EXCLUSIVE new titles and maybe some harder to find classics.

Although, with Sony's track record, I'd STAY THE HELL AWAY from the first run of PSPs. Chances are they'll be malfunctioning or developing some serious problem within the first few months. Sony really half-asses it when it comes to overall quality of their hardware, until they get around to fixing the problems.

There's no way in hell that the PSP would be under $200 at launch.

If they plan on having the PSP be a success, then it better shit golden coins or something, because Nintendo rules the roost right now when it comes to the handheld market.

I'm betting we'll see a mix of PS1 ports and original titles, personally (I keep hearing about all these companies opening PSP development divisions, so they must have SOMETHING they're working on besides PS1 ports).

As long as the system has a good launch library, I'll buy it. I'm not surprised others won't, though- if it was my own money I was spending, I probably wouldn't pay $300 for it either, hehe. :P

I just hope I can figure out how to fucking turn the PSP on...I never could get past the pesky "power button deal" with the N-Gage.

Seriously.

How the fuck do you do it?

300 dollars is a bit much. Plus, I'd wait a while because the first model of PSPs will probably explode in your pocket or something.

Still...if...

- There's enough buttons and a good enough button layout for a good Street Fighter game, and an accompanying kickass Street Fighter title...

- Konami signs on to develop for it, maybe FINALLY giving us a Stateside release of CV: Rondo of Blood to go along with maybe some kick ass original platformers...

- Sega brings us some awesome, maybe even some exclusive titles like a new traditional Phantasy Star, a great Sonic title, and a souped-up NiGHTs...

I'll get around to getting one for sure.

I actually want to get a Game.com someday. MK Trilogy is out for it and I really want to check that out and own it. I should look on Ebay sometime.
