When did the WWF...

Recommended Posts

I am doing a research paper about wrestling's influence with the media.

I can't remember when WWF signed a contract with USA, so when did it happen?

Thanks

All a spokesman for the WWF would say about deal negotiations is that ``the USA Network has been our home for 17 years.''

You should borrow the "Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: The Real Story of Vince McMahon and the WWF" book. It has all the answers you need if you're doing a research paper on the WWF.

That book is biased to the max. It sucks.

The WWF was on USA VERY early in Vince Jr's national run. I actually started re-reading Sex Lies and Headlocks the other day and it mentioned that McMahon had gotten on USA a short time before he bought Georgia and its TBS timeslot from Jim Barnett and the Brisco brothers. That was, IIRC, early 1984 because the money Vince got from selling Georgia to Jim Crockett was used to fund the first Wrestlemania in 1985.

In short, Vince was on USA before early 1984, probably getting the spot sometime in 1982 or (more likely) 1983.

I'm not so sure I would use that as a reference book. There are more than a few factual inaccuracies that even a more casual fan could point out.
