Guest MikeSC Report post Posted December 11, 2003 OK, this might not belong here --- but there is something I've long wondered: Why was Winston Churchill voted out of office in 1945? It seems odd to me that a country would vote the ruling party out of power on the brink of victory in the biggest war in history. So, seeing as how I no virtually nothing about domestic British politics in 1945 --- what led to Winston losing? -=Mike
BX 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2003 "Although the importance of Churchill's role in World War II was undeniable, he produced many enemies in his own country. His expressed contempt for ideas such as public health care and for better education for the majority of the population in particular produced much dissatisfaction amongst the population, particularly those who had fought in the war. Immediately following the close of the war in Europe Churchill was heavily defeated at election by Clement Attlee and the Labour Party. Sincerely. I have wondered about that for a little while now and we Americans tend to have little but positive views of Churchill (he was a rather funny guy). -=Mike
