Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 What is this game on ESPN2? Some kind of All-Star Game? Blue-Grey game? It's basically the all-star game for seniors where they get one last shot to make an impression on NFL scouts before the draft. It's not looking to good. I don't see any Sooners out there(remembers that most of the team is coming back) oh yeah....but it's got some stupid rules. No blitzing? Why?

Bored 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2003 They had actually stopped playing the Blue/Gray Game a couple of years ago but guess it's back. You won't see players from top ranked teams because no coach wants a star player to get hurt a week before they play their bowl game. Oh and there is never any blitzing in any all-star games, pro or college, because they want to protect the quarterbacks even more.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 Hawaii deserves to lose after that abysmal clock management. Seriously. Once they're out of time outs, just run it up the gut and you win. None of this pass nonsense.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 I agree, although I didn't agree with the announcer getting all over the RB's case for not going out of bounds. Hell, he got 1st Downs and was knocked out of bounds for the most part during that drive. Whew, that XP was CLOSE!
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 Three OTs, bad coaching and a game ending fight. Â Best. Bowl. Ever.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 And a brawl to end it! Someone's gonna ram that bronze pineapple through a chest if they're not careful. Â The early bowl season has been pretty satisfying this year, on a sheerly visceral level. This and Fort Worth were big time shootous, and we had some disgusting blowouts in the Tangerine and Las Vegas.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2003 Why is Northwestern in a bowl game? Â Because of conference tie-ins and the Big Ten's final bid goes to the Motor City Bowl. What needs to be changed after this year is there has to be a rule that you must have a winning record to go to a bowl game. Its ridiculous a team can finish their season 6-7 (like Kansas and probably Northwestern and probably UCLA) and call it a success because they went and got their ass kicked in a bowl game. This way then teams like Northern Illinois and Connecticut (although they'll be in the Big East next year) won't get shut out of a bowl game.

This year has been strange enough that they may make that change.  Before this year, the only team I remembered that was .500 or below that went to a bowl game was North Texas in a season where they were 5-6 but won the Sun Belt title and, thus, earned the conference's New Orleans Bowl bid. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Damn...so close but unfortunately Harris and passing was too good *sigh* Here's hoping VT doesn't disappoint as I like Kevin Jones a lot.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Well almost had the first upset of the bowl season but the favorites are now 7 for 7. Ugly, ugly game all around but made for decent entertainment. Â Hey do you know Josh Harris is married?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 This would be a weird season if EVERY favorite won. Plus if every favorite wins then....we have a split national title.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 God damn fucking Cal...hello, defense? Â Oh and guys could you post about the games in here and not the results thread? Prefer to leave that for just posting results and discussion of picks made. Thanks.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Only a seven point game but Cal has no shot if they don't figure out something to stop Va Tech's offense in the 2nd half.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Well almost had the first upset of the bowl season but the favorites are now 7 for 7. Ugly, ugly game all around but made for decent entertainment. Hey do you know Josh Harris is married? I didn't see the MC Bowl, so if the color guy already said it I'm sorry, but yeah I heard that during the BGSU-OSU game because they were talking about how she was a track star at OSU.  Those kids are gonna be quick!   This Cal-VT is great, and the missed FG before the half may have been the best kick of the season. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 No defense for either team and it looks like Cal is gonna give the Hokies the ball back with time enough for a drive to tie the game.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 The only good thing about that return for a tD by the Deangelo Hall is that it gives Cal 3:11 to drive for a score to win it.. Â Bonus: VaTech's 3rd kickoff out of bounds gives Cal the ball with good field position
teke184 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Cal's deep in VT territory with 2 seconds left. VT's vaunted special teams better block a kick or they better pick up a turnover so this goes to OT.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 And the kick....is good...Cal wins. FUCK! Sorry I can't take any joy in Cal ever winning even though it puts me 1st place now in my own contest. 8 for 8.

Gert T 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Well the ACC will enjoy the pre-season rankings and September and October, but will lose out on their investment on VT in November-January. Â It's funny I just left my room to check out to see if the game was still on right when they were lining up for the kick, and sadly I stuck around for about 2 minutes to see if a fight broke out! Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Woo. Only 10 hours till the bowl *I'm* most interested in. Â Though obviously biased as a UVA student, I feel like the Cavaliers are more balanced in this one. Pitt's run defense is quite poor, and in Wali Lundy and Alvin Pearman the Cavs have a pair of young tailback playmakers who each topped 1100 yards this year combining running and receiving. Fitzgerald will score a few touchdowns, because while our CB's are more than capable of picking off passes, they're just too short and the secondary is merely eh. Still, Matt Schaub can put points on the board just as fast, if not faster than Rod Rutherford. The crowd is also going to be a big difference - with less than 5,000 Pitt tickets sold and over 25,000 Virginia tickets sold, this is basically going to sound and feel like a homegame for Virginia, which makes a bigger difference for them than most other teams I follow. Â And of course, Al Groh, Cavs coach, will call at least one fake something and one halfback pass. Watch for #18 Marques Hagans to be involved in at least one or two ridiculous, wonderful maneuvers. In any case, this ought to be one of the best match-ups of the bowl season.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Great game going on so far, 17-13 Cavaliers. Solid play on both sides of the ball, probably the most balanced bowl game I've seen this year. I have nothing but murder, however, for the SEC official who blew the Pitt muffed fair catch dead. That was a turnover, flat-out, and his early whistle was riiiiiiiicockulous. Â Time for the second half!
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Hmmm starting to think I should have gone with Virginia. I felt both teams were evenly matched and when it came to like opponents Pittsburgh barely beat Virginia Tech while Virginia beat them by 14. Maybe I was just thinking too much about Pittsburgh having Larry Fitzgerald.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Told ya so. Great game by the defense, and even I, UVA fanboy, was shocked to see them turn Fitzgerald into an absolute non-factor.
