Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Nah, he's still excellent, and it was clear watching the game that he is pretty much everything he's cracked up to be. He caught 5 of 6 passes thrown his way for about 80 yards, but never got near the end-zone. They just played a solid zone, usually keeping a safety on him at all times, a corner near him, and one of the linebackers dropped back to not necessarily cover him but be in the vicinity. It ended up with UVA usually only putting 7 people up on the line, but they still managed to get through to Rutherford, especially on a pair of big corner blitzes. Whenver Rutherford did throw to Fitzgerald, he did usually do something pretty dynamic to catch a tough pass. UVA basically made containing him their #1 defensive priority. He still made a few plays, but they kept him from really having a big effect on the game. It's more the fault of the offensive coordinators for not being more creative in finding ways to get him the ball. The commentators kept mentioning it and I agree - they didn't put Fitzgerald in motion or in the backfield at all after the 1st quarter, and so the UVA defense was always able to get a pretty good read on his patterns. Weird, weird offensive playcalling for Pitt.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2003 Yeah, he was so exposed that he showed he can only catch a half dozen balls when being triple covered. He is such a farce.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2003 Just bumping this so it don't fall off the first page. Nebraska and Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl is tonight.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2003 Damn when I did the picks a few weeks back the word was about the Nebraska players wanting to boycott this game because they hadn't named the defensive coordinator the permanent head coach. I knew Nebraska was definently the better team but figured they wouldn't put up much of a fight if they didn't even want to be here. Guess that wasn't the case. Again please post about in progress games in here and not the results thread, thanks.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2003 That's it. This game is getting out of hand. I'm predicting a full team brawl after this.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2003 nice drive by Nebraska, result is a missed fg.. From what Ive seen of the game though, the Spartans offense didn't make the trip to San Antonio so a 14 pt lead in the 4th is probably enough for Nebraska. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted December 30, 2003 You think Jamaal Lord could make the NFL as a running back or something?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2003 Damn Michigan State is making a comeback! Come on Nebraska! They only need 2 TD's to tie your ass! They can do it in 7 minutes!
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2003 MSU is making a late run.. The interim coach's penalty really helped this drive too, I dont think they would have made the 4th down. About as I mention that, Nebraska gets an INT to pretty much seal the game up.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 They spiked the ball and then threw themselves on the ground like it was a bomb. There was apparently a personal foul in there somewhere to.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 They spiked the ball and then threw themselves on the ground like it was a bomb. There was apparently a personal foul in there somewhere to. How did anyone get "bomb" from that? I thought they all did a group faint or something. A bomb would have had them all throwing themselves away from where the ball was spiked. EDIT: DID ANYONE ELSE HEAR THE COMMENTATOR ECHO AT THE START OF THE HOLIDAY BOWL? THAT WAS WEIRD!!!

EDIT: DID ANYONE ELSE HEAR THE COMMENTATOR ECHO AT THE START OF THE HOLIDAY BOWL? THAT WAS WEIRD!!! Well I came in just as the ball was hitting the ground and they were to. In my experiences that's usually the bomb explosion taunt. I said "What a bunch of fucktards" and walked off before the replay. So maybe it was fainting. Did Symons participate in that taunt? He looked kind of pissed after they did it. I couldn't tell if he was in on it or not. Damn Symons is good. He could've been a front runner for the Heisman...if he hadn't thrown 5 picks against OU.......
Gert T 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Yeah it was the "dropping the bomb, or throwing the grenade celebration", I don't think Symons was involved in that, but not sure. Damaramu, I also expected a brawl at the end of the Alamo Bowl last night. I guess a bunch of nasty words were even exchanged before the game at a dual team functioned dinner Friday night. If that wasn't Navy, it might have gotten ugly after that celebration.

If that wasn't Navy, it might have gotten ugly after that celebration. Yeah I understand that Michigan State's coach told them at halftime to shut there mouths and play football. And I heard on the radio they said "Nebraska was playing better than Michigan State that night...you don't trash talk a team that's beating you like that." Yeah I heard the dual-team dinner turned into an episode of Jerry Springer. God I'm hoping for these teams to meet in a bowl next year...that'd be awesome. I wonder if we'll get a fight after the Sugar Bowl? I heard that LSU was saying they don't respect Jason White and that he's nothing. Them's fighting words around here.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Maybe they've only watched the K-State game then, because if not they'd be fools not to respect White. It would be a fitting end to the BCS mess, but with so much at stake I think the losing team will be too emotionally drained to brawl.
teke184 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Saban's taught the players better than THAT, especially considering what happened with the Alabama game last year. For those who don't know, someone spread a fake locker room pep talk around in which Saban supposedly ripped Alabama and Dennis Franchione hardcore and told the team to ignore them and look ahead to the Georgia Dome. It was done by an LSU fan as a joke but the Alabama coaches and players thought it was the real deal and stuck it to LSU in the game as a result. The LSU players and coaches didn't know anything about it until much later, with Saban wondering why Alabama coach Dennis Franchione was acting so unprofessional after the game by refusing to even look at him let alone shake hands. Hmm...maybe it is something fake to fire OU up. From what I understand both teams are fired up like mad. OU is fired up because everyone is saying that they don't belong in that game so they think they have something to prove. LSU if fired up because they won there Conference title and OU lost there's yet OU is still favored so LSU doesn't believe they are getting the respect they deserve. So they have that to prove. So both teams have something to prove. God this game is going to rock.

Bored 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2003 Is this typical of Texas or what? Mack Brown has to be the worst coach ever when it comes to gameplanning against a quality opponent. I would have gone with the upset pick if I hadn't lost all faith in Wazzu after they choked against Washington in the final game of the season to maybe cost them a shot at a BCS bid. It is the Holiday Bowl though so history says Texas will make a game out of this.
