The Official College Football Bowl Thread

I'm an Ohio State fan, but whoever is in charge of that fucking clock had better get their head in the fucking game!

Win or lose, I don't want it to be tainted!

And as you watch this, aren't you real happy Michigan beat Ohio State to prevent a four way controversy in the BCS standings?

Who knew the same college could bribe the officials in two straight years?

I knew someone would try to pull that shit.

The clock bit was bullshit, I grant you.

But before you bring up the pass interference thing from last year, don't forget that Miami got a bullshit call that set up their game tying field goal that forced overtime in the first place. How convenient of everybody to forget that one.

I didn't.

Last year was a great game and the official call wasn't even bad. The NFL officials would have called that.

Great game and the Big 12 has done HORRIBLE in the bowls this year.

Hey, with K-State's shitty playcalling after the clock fuckup (which is bullshit, I agree) they probably didn't deserve to win anyway. But we'll both agree they should have gotten their full allotment of time.

Hmm. I was out at a Blondie concert (yeah Debbie Harry!) so it sounds like I missed a great game. I did watch most of Clemson/Tennessee, though, and let me just say: GO ACC!

After underachieving all year long, the ACC finally steps up in Bowl season and outperforms pretty much every other conference, with the exception of the still-exceptional SEC. NC State annihilates Kansas, Virginia takes out Larry Fitzgerald and a very good Pitt team, Maryland KILLIFIES W.Va again, and now Clemson comfortably knocks off the #7 team in the nation. If Georgia Tech can take care of Tulsa tomorrow, the conference'll finish a really impressive 5-1 bowl run, with FSU's close loss being the only blemish.

Football is back on Tobacco Road!

Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS -- BCS coordinator Mike Tranghese would like to see the human element play a bigger role in college football's national championship formula.

"I'd like to see us go back to using the human polls," Tranghese told USA Today for a story on its Web site Friday, "but I don't think we can get that done."

Tranghese expects conference commissioners to soon discuss possible changes in the controversial system that selects the two teams that play in the national title game. One change could be giving more weight to The Associated Press poll and the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll than computer rankings.

The Bowl Championship Series standings are derived from a complicated formula that includes poll results, seven computer rankings and strength of schedule, plus other factors. The top two teams in the final standings meet in the national championship game.

Southern California, ranked No. 1 in both human polls used by the BCS, was left out of the Sugar Bowl, this season's BCS national title game.

The Trojans virtually assured themselves a piece of the national championship Thursday with a 28-14 thumping of No. 4 Michigan in the Rose Bowl because voters almost certainly will leave the Trojans atop The Associated Press poll no matter what happens Sunday night in the Sugar Bowl.

Voters for the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll are obligated to crown the winner of the BCS championship game between No. 2 LSU and No. 3 Oklahoma.

That would produce a split national championship, just what the BCS was designed to avoid.

"I can tell you the six commissioners do not take any delight or pleasure in having to defend a poll we didn't want to have in the first place," said Tranghese, the Big East commissioner.

"I don't think we have a choice but to take a hard look at this."

Tranghese was slated to discuss the conclusion of his tenure as BCS coordinator at a meeting of the Football Writers Association of America on Sunday. The BCS has two seasons left in its current format.

"It's just not a single issue," Tranghese said. "Every time you add a twist, there's an unintended consequence."

...........................................................

Now...why would they change something that works so perfectly?

Two National Champions are F-U-N. One for each nation. err...wait.

I gotta throw a shout out to my next door neighbor John F'n Hollins!

K-State only got "screwed" with the clock on the first play right? It looked like the second one looked legit. Oh well great game and a decent ending for the Buckeyes season.

It will truly be a great ending and win for OSU based on how much Trev Alberts bitches about the clock management & officials.

I'm not sure how bad they blew the clock the first time anyway.

The clock doesn't re-start when the ball is snapped...it restarts when the chains are moved.

now...I wasn't watching to see if the chains were in place...but the clock certainly stopped long enough for two one legged blind men to put them in place...

Doesn't Tranghese realize that going back to the human polls still would not have changed much this year. It just would have been a different team in the Sugar Bowl and an outsider winning their bowl game and more controversy.
