Eclipse 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2003 Well, I am getting a burner and burning all my important data. I am using Win2k right now. I have that damn virus I mentioned in that HUGE thread. My teacher at school said that if I were to restore to factory defaults, it would not delete the virus from the HDD. The only way is to actually do a clean install I guess, and repartition the drive. The question is this: Will my PC be compatible with XP? I got this PC in 2001, and the BIOS is still from that year. Will all the hardware on the PC now (CDROM, HDD, etc) that came with the PC in 2001 work under XP? I am hoping the drivers are there in XP, and Auto-Detect everything. I would rather just upgrade to XP instead of restoring back to the headche known as ME. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Guest JohnnySwift Report post Posted December 17, 2003 If you're already using 2K, you'll probably find the jump to XP less dramatic than if you were to go from 9/X or ME. Only go to XP though if you can get the pro edition. Home just isn't worth it. Your computer should be able to handle XP, but it might lag if you have less than like 192mb of ram. Guest JohnnySwift Report post Posted December 17, 2003 I've worked with a few people at my old college (recently graduated with a Comp Sci degree) and all the people who had WinXP home were not able to log into the school's network, this happened to other people I knew in other colleges as well. I haven't had too much hands on stuff with XP Home other than that, but I've heard a lot of complaints about it. Besides if you can get your hands on a XP cd, I'm sure you can get a pro version...if not you just need to ask the right people ... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
