Former Senator to run for the Senate in Florida

Recommended Posts

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...se/senate_smith

MIAMI - Former New Hampshire Sen. Bob Smith, hoping to represent his newly adopted home state, said Wednesday he plans to seek the seat of retiring Sen. Bob Graham.

Smith, a Republican who moved to Sarasota in May, told The Associated Press he will formally announce his candidacy next month. If elected, he would become the first U.S. senator in more than 120 years to have represented more than one state.

Note to self: Hillary being from Illinois or Arkansas then going to be Senator from New York = bad. Bob Smith trying to be a Senator from Florida = not as bad. :D

Hey.. it is Bob Smith, so there's a good shot he'll fail.

Republicans running or considering a run include former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Mel Martinez, Rep. Katherine Harris, state House Speaker Johnnie Byrd and legal activist Larry Klayman

There's a variety of people out who want the job. Bob Smith may not have a shot against the most prominent of Republicans in that field.

Oh yeah, Smith will really make a connection with Florida voters...

Well, an ice queen from the most backwater hick state in the country is a Senator from New Friggin' York.

I find it best to not doubt the possibilities.

Heck, what did Bobby Kennedy ever have in common with NY, seeing as how he was a Senator there, also?

I think EVERYONE knew that was coming. Lay off Arkansas, though. My best friend in the world is from there and he's certainly no "hick."

Southerners make fun of Arkansas. The armpit of America. The most illiterate, inbred, hick yokel state in the country.

Bah. I'm from the south and don't make fun of Arkansas. Hell, I'm from Alabama.

Arkansas and Mississippi are the whipping boys of the south... and even THEY make fun of West Virginia.

I guess, TECHNICALLY, since W. Virginia wasn't a Confederate state, it's not viewed as being Southern.

But, man, THAT is a state I have no desire to visit.

Well, I don't consider Southern California to be part of "the south." Not that I give a damn about my southern heritage.

What does Southern Cal have to do with anything?

You were talking about West Virginia not being considered "southern." I was simply saying I don't consider south Cali "southern."

Neither is Southern (was California even a state when the Civil War broke out?). Your point is just totally lost on me.

Some people from southern Cali consider themselves to be southerners. I don't consider them to be. That's as clearly as I can explain it.

OK. Just a general rule of thumb:

South = Former Confederate States (no, not a source of pride)

North = Former Union States

West = West of Texas

Midwest = North of Texas

Nevermind that Hillary was born in Chicago and never really came to Arkansas until the 70s.

:rolleyes:

Hmm, so she spent about 20 years in Arkansas --- but is STILL a big city girl?

Man, it's like "Green Acres"!

Heck, she was a Goldwater supporter once. Things change. And I didn't say SHE was a hick --- just that she came from the most inbred hick state in the country.

I never understood the hate Hillary gets. What has she done that's so bad? She seems like she'd be a nice person. Is it just because she's a Democrat or is there something else?

Marry Billy?

Although they produced Chelsea, so I suppose it balances out

Well, marrying Bill did help her career. Hell, it practically made it.

Hey.. she didn't come from South Carolina!

:D

Oh, SC is a hick state. No doubt.

But we aren't Arkansas.

Heck, yeah. The man all but fired his OWN SON.

We also have Dave Odom, who's building a respectable basketball program.
