Guest Monday Night Jericho Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner - I've been a little busy. I don't see how one can do that either. I don't know if it's because I'm concentrating on what I'm doing but I don't notice that too much. Maybe I don't notice it as much because besides for that one time I've never been guilty of initiating a conversation while someone is doing a workset. It's the polite, sensical thing to do. A quick hello or how are you doing between sets is what I say. Yeah, me too - no need to get too friendly with anyone imo. Do you have a training partner? People have told me that it's good to have one, but I find there are some obvious problems with it, for example: finding somebody who does a similar routine to the one you're doing on that day, and of course finding somebody who actually WANTS to do it (I know nobody that does). It is though I used to do it all the time. She was doing cardio along with the weights too though. I'm surprised she didn't faint that week. I've done it once, but I couldn't workout properly for the rest of the week with weights; and that's after a lot of stretching. Most of my injuries have actually come from work or other things. Though sometimes I have injured myself training. Do you mind telling me what other injuries you've had and what you've done to overcome them? One my nagging injuries which I think is going to be forever was from wrestling on the hard ground with some friends. I didn't even feel it to afterwards. what injury is that and how did it happen? And yeah wrestling with friends can lead to some serious damage; a friend of mine nealy broke my back (by jumping on it) when he was drunk. My diet is not up to par and really it should be. There is no denying how important it is. I'm a vegetarian so I tend to gouge milk and stuff like that. I always eat multiple times a day and just naturally hate eating 3 times a day. But even as a youngster I did that probably due to my high metabolism which I think has slowed down some now. Do you eat fish? If I wanted to, I can maintain my muscle (actually, I'm thinking I might lose some now if I were to try to do that) if need be by just doing 1 hard intense set per bodypart (after warmups though which I suppose can be considered as additional sets) every 2 weeks. That doesn't work for me though in gaining muscle, just something I discovered I could do over time. I have heard of hardgainers who have gained by training every 2 weeks though. Mentzer would train after warmups 1 superset (leg extensions followed by squats, pullovers followed by chins, flies followed by presses) every week I think. Ideally I'd love to train more than I do currently but what I do right now is great for letting your joints and tendons recover. Plus along with my work which can be physically draining. If your work involves heavy lifting then I can definitely see how that could slow you down. What type of warm-ups do you do? I myself just do stretching and general stuff to get the blood flowing... I've heard that some people as a warm-up do the exercises they plan on doing with very light weights. Is this what you do at all (or similar)? If I remember correctly Arnold would train 16 to 20 sets per bodypart diving those up into 3 or 4 different exercises. I forget how long he'd take in between sets and the next workout. Personally, 16-20 sets sounds like over-training to me. Although I guess it'd depend on whether or not you do steroids (I believe that Arnold did). What kind of trainee are you? What I mean is do you think of yourself as an easygainer, average or a true hardgainer? What's your bonestructure and bodytype like? I think I'm an average-hard gainer. My bone structure isn't really that big (I'm not small-boned either; probably somewhere in the middle). I do know it takes me quite a while to gain weight, which kind of sucks, but the challenge keeps me going. I would say to try that routine once you start getting to more of a standstill/sticking point. It's not something I'd tell somebody to do right off the bat. You should also be set for some growth right off the starting gate anyway if you haven't been lifting for a bit. Yeah - I love the 'beginner's gain'. Putting on mass after that though is tough, though. Warm up with the weights. I always start light and progress up to the point where I feel I'm adequately warmed up to prevent injury from my main sets. I've not actually warmed up this way. I think I may start. I'm now also a believer of stretching. Good to hear. Stick with the hardcore manly exercises if possible like squats and chins. Technique of course is of upmost importance. I tend to go very lightly on the squats when I do them due to a knee injury. I will increase the chins a lot though. The general rule from memory is to take a weight (or maybe even a little less weight) you can normally do 12 reps with. Do a couple sets with said weight for 8 reps. (I have found 1 set works for me, right now I'm kind of scared to jink it with 2). Next week do 9, than 10, than 11 and than 12. Add just a little weight to the bar but make sure not to get too greedy. Go back down to 8 again. Than back up to 9, 10, 11, and than 12. Repeat again with once again a little bit more weight. If you feel you're not recovering strongly enough you can cut back down to 1 set (though this won't work if you get too greedy adding weight to the bar) at the end if you feel you're having too much trouble completing the second set. And/or add a day or even two of rest once you get into your last week or two when you're trying to get you're 11th and 12th reps. Thank you very much for the advice. You're becoming somewhat of a training mentor. I suppose you probably know that once you've had muscle once and than lose it from not training that the 2nd time you start training you gain that muscle back easier than the effort it took to get it in the first place. For me, I can always get up to a high percentage of what I was at before but the last little bit of muclse I had before I stopped is harder to get back. I totally feel you on this one. This is why I find it to be vital to find different methods and try to to see which ones work for you. I think it's something that's always been inside me. Even before I really realised how skinny I was I wanted to have big muscles like He-Man or Hercules. Maybe part of it is because I grew up on a farm and saw how much easier stuff was to do if one was to become stronger. I'd be lying if I said girls weren't a motivation. I am absolutely horrible around girls being insecure/shy and all so if I can be in shape that's one positive I got on my side. I get a high off of the training especially if I'm doing well with it. Of course one can never truly know since we can't relocate in another person's body but I seem to get more of a high off of it than others do from exercising. Entertainment wise I do find myself gravitating towards stuff I find motivational. That's a big reason why I like wrestling. I always found wrestling when at its best to be very inspiring. With the music I like songs that move me. Ditto with great pieces of television, video games or movies. Certain people motivate me too just by being who they are. Thanks for the reply. I completely second you on wrestling and the part about "certain people motivate me too just by being who they are". Speaking of wrestling I happened to watch Benoit/Misterio from 10/02. Fine, fine match. If you've seen it (which you probably have:)) - what are your thoughts? Also do you or Ray know where I can get my hands on some good WWF Benoit tapes. I'm looking for stuff that comps his 2000-2004 work.
Guest Monday Night Jericho Report post Posted September 7, 2005 I used to cheat too much on those barbell curls when I was younger. Incline dumbell curls were always my favourite bicep exercise. I would hold them like you would normally hold something by your side and then when I curled them up rotate my wrists so they'd face upwards. You can't cheat on those bad boys! Chinups are how I mostly hit biceps. Truth be known I think I can get my biceps a little stronger by concentrating on them with incline dumbell curls but right now all my energy is into getting my lats stronger. I've always been a fan of having your palms face towards you while doing chinups. People say doing it the other way hits your back better but since the biceps are the muscle that's supposed to fail before your back why would you want to limit your bicep power in a back exercise? I've always been a mark for the longer range of motion you get when you chin with the palms facing towards you as well. If I put my palms the other way I feel I'm not working hard enough. Interesting... as I said before, I'm really going to increase chin-ups, as they sound very effective (unfortunately I never really stuck with them long enough to find out). Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 8, 2005 Hey Ray's back! Are you doing okay? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm fine. I still haven't watched that Samurai Jack DVD. Shame on me. I've just been watching too many movies lately. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've been offline for a little bit and this is the first post I've made since than. I''ve got an hour here in town before I head off to the gym. Tell me when you watch. It took me 5 years to get around to a movie I just watched the other week. I see you're watching a lot of movies. I would've participated in your movie thread but I haven't seen close to enough movies to do so. Take care. Take care.

I completely second you on wrestling and the part about "certain people motivate me too just by being who they are". Some of my injuries are still with me. Some of them I've overcome. That'd be a long post. I'll get into it when I'm back online again. The wrestling injury is beside my right shoulder where your trap would be at. It's not a trap injury but there's something wrong below the trap and it only gets afftected with shoulder work. When it's really hurting my bottom of my thumb will be feeling it too. Seems to be affected by dark, rainy dampy days. Injured my right elbow armwrestling in grade 10 and it doesn't bend straight to this day. I think it's possible to teach your body to go full bode without warming up but even if you can pull that off I still think one's boun d to pay the price for it some day. You're only tempting fate. If I warm up with the actual movement itself I'm less likely to hurt myself for any tough sets later on. A real light set is how I start off. Than I just build up with my sets. 50% for me is essential and I often go up to I'm guessing 70%. I never really calculated warmups. I just go by how I feel. I've heard people reccomend up to 90% for a couple of sets. Ray probably knows. Off the top of my head, Corey's massive tape site has a good chance of having something. I could help you out if you're looking for something as I got most stuff. Friedlander has everything. Benoit vs Mysterio is great. It was the first time anyone ever countered the 619 the way Benoit did and the action around that point in the match was the highpoint. The way the flying headbutt was hit so well gave the bout a special aura to it. I also liked how Mysterio has some hard hitting offence which is something I like to see in his matches. Benoit's the perfect guy to eat something like that. The offence by both competitors was innovative and pleasing to the eye. Benoit's strikes make Rey's mountain he has to climb all the more steep. Nice sequences in the match. WCW missed the boat by not having these guys on PPV. WWF is missing the boat too. Speaking of wrestling I happened to watch Benoit/Misterio from 10/02. Fine, fine match. If you've seen it (which you probably have:)) - what are your thoughts? Also do you or Ray know where I can get my hands on some good WWF Benoit tapes. Great friend who has a naturally similar physique wise to me. He actually posts on this board. After that I've had none so most of the time I've trained I've had none. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 8, 2005 Don't know how my post turned out that way. Watched Astroboy last night. The greatest robot in the world two part episodes. Still some of the greatest stuff I've ever seen. The only drawback was it that it was incredibly fast paced and didn't spend enough time on anything but hey they only had 52 episodes and a million different ideas and stories to tell. If it hadn't been so bang - bang - bang - bang these episodes would've been completely untouchable by anything.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 13, 2005 I may be offline but my love for Astro never will be. Another continuation Chapter 6:Astro's story was introduced “Tenma?” Zircon asked. “Who’s Tenma?” Doctor turned his head towards Zircon and says, “Tenma was a robot engineer. Even though it’s been months since the robot law has passed, he’s now and is still trying to get robots to rule over humans.” Astro and Zoran nodded to agree with Dr. O’shay. “So that’s Tenma,” Zircon said. “It’s been months since he’s still trying to make it happen,” Astro said. “I don’t know why, or how, but he all of a sudden gave up on not making me the king of all robots, and now, he’s still trying to make that happen.” “What made him change his mind?” Zircon asked. “We’re not sure,” Doctor said. “We’re still trying to figure that out.” “I had something in mind with him,” said Zircon. “What was it?” asked Astro. “I believe he tried to awake me again yesterday,” The other three gasped and said, “HIM?!?” out loud. “Yeah,” Zircon continues. “I believe he found me near the bottom the ocean, and must’ve tried to awaken me then.” When he awakened me, I also went out of control because he gave me too much energy. I seemed given off a little smile to him after I saved him a collapsing building, and for awaking me. Even though I was awakened, and still malfunctioned, he seemed to have been a great person to me.” “You’re wrong, Zircon.” Doctor said. “But, Doctor, he still awakened me, other than my creator, who shut me down, and dumped me into the ocean,” Doctor clutched his hands and bangs them on the table. “No, Zircon! Don’t you ever call Tenma a great person! He may be someone who may have helped awaken you, but I don’t trust him, and you shouldn’t either!” Zircon gasped, tilted her head down, and sadly said, “I’m sorry.” Doctor got up from his chair, walked over to Zircon, and put his hand one Zircon’s shoulder. “Listen,” he began. “I’m sorry I yelled at you, but there’s a huge problem between Tenma and me.” Zircon looked up at Doctor as he continues on. “Let’s just say that Tenma and I are, enemies,” “How?” Zircon asked. “Well, we started acting as enemies all because of Astro.” Zircon turned to look at Astro. “What’s so important about him?” she asked. “Tenma created him, and by the time people found out the robot was going to be dangerous, he set a hidden building, known to be his “lair”, on fire, and it was then collapsed and destroyed by the fire.” “But what happened to Astro?” Zircon asked. “Astro was found, locked up in a capsule. Somebody had to bring it back to life, so I took the job.” Doctor looked at his watch. “Listen, it’s getting late, we need to get to bed so we can show you around Metro City tomorrow.” Astro and Zircon managed to say “Okay” right after saw Zoran head up the stairs, feeling tired. Before Astro and Zircon went upstairs, Doctor stops Zircon and says, “Zircon, Astro and I have been wondering, that when we have guests over, we would have them sleep in a guest bed. That’s why; I ordered a guest bed for you to sleep in a few days ago. It had just arrived this morning, and it’s in Astro’s room.” Zircon smiled and happily said, “Thank you, Doctor! You’re the only person I know so far who is truly nice to robots!” Doctor smiled as Zircon and Astro went up the stairs. *Such an amazing robot,* Doctor thought. *And this robot also has a heart of its own.*
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 14, 2005 Chapter 7: Zircon stays at Doctor’ House When Astro and Zircon were heading up the stairs and then into the Astro’s bedroom, Astro noticed Zircon sitting on the guest bed, and not feeling very happy anymore. “What’s wrong, Zircon?” he asked. “Aren’t you glad that Doctor said you can stay here?” “Yeah, but,” Zircon said. “What?” “Well, I did understand what Doctor said, about Tenma, but what if Tenma comes back to get me for revenge?” “What do you mean?” Astro asked. “Yesterday, after I saved him and everything, I overheard him saying, ‘with the power that I hold, he could use it to destroy Metro City!’” Astro gasped. “That’s crazy!” he yelled. “How did you bring that up?” “That’s what I heard before I completely left the area,” Zircon said. “If Tenma does this, it might be the end of me.” Astro noticed that a tear dropped from Zircon face, then sighed. “So, you’re serious about this,” he said, carefully. “What am I going to do, Astro?” she asked. Astro walked across the room to sit down on Zircon’s bed, and then put both hands on both of her shoulders. “Don’t worry, Zircon,” he said. “It’ll be okay. Besides, we’re going to show you around Metro City, and I really don’t want this problem to get to your head. Your problem may come true, but don’t let this problem ruin your day tomorrow. Got it?” “I understand,” Zircon said, wiping the tear off her face. “Good,” said Astro. “Now, let’s go to sleep. We’ve got a big day ahead of us tomorrow.” Zircon’s frown turned into a little smirk. “Thanks Astro,” she said. “That really meant a lot to me.” Astro sighs, took his hands off of Zircon’s shoulders, and then smiles. “I’m glad we got that of the way,” he said. The next morning, Zircon woke up happy as ever. From what Astro told her yesterday, she mostly forgot everything about what Tenma might do to her. She then headed downstairs, dressed, and noticed that Astro, Zoran, and Doctor were already downstairs, awake before her. “Good morning,” they all said. Zircon smiles happily. “Did you sleep well last night?” Astro asked. “Yes,” Zircon said. “I haven’t had any bad dreams either.” Astro smiled and then asks, “Well, are you ready to go?” Zircon happily closed her closed her eyes, smiling, and said, “Yes,” and then looked at Doctor and Zoran. “Well, what are you waiting for? Let’s go!” Doctor and Zoran looked at each other and gave out a little laugh. “Alright, Zircon,” Doctor said. “We’re not in a hurry; we’re just waiting for you to wake up, so we all could leave.” Zircon was jumping up and down. “Doctor, let’s go before she blows a gasket.” Astro said laughing. Doctor looks at Zircon. “Alright, let’s go!”
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Over on smarkschoice.com they are having a "Best Animation Poll" in the Movies/Tv section. I was one of the voters. Let's all hope for the best that Astroboy does as well as it deserves. Keep your fingers crossed, don't let black cats cross your path, don't walk under ladders and don't walk over cracks on the sidewalk.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Chapter 8: Zircon meets Astro’s Friends The four gathered into the air car and left the house. Zircon and Zoran gazed out the car window. “Wow!” Zircon said, smiling. “Oh!” Doctor said, surprised. “I almost forgot your going to be enrolled in Astro’s school tomorrow! Listen, I’ll drop you, Astro, and Zoran off at Central City to look around, while I shop for your supplies.” The others happily said, “Okay” just before the air car landed. Astro, Zoran, and Zircon waved at Dr. O’shay when he headed into Central City. “Okay, Zircon, how about we show you around Central City first?” Astro asked. Zircon turned towards Astro and said, “That’d be great!” When the three were just about to walk into Central City, they all heard a few voices coming from behind. “Hey, Astro!” Astro turned around to see, so did Zoran and Zircon. Alejo, Kennedy, and Abercrombie appeared from behind, running towards Astro, Zoran, and Zircon. “Astro!” Kennedy yelled. “I’d never thought you’d be here!” Alejo said, surprised. Abercrombie didn’t say anything, until he noticed that another robot was standing next to Zoran, and then he yelled. “What is that thing?!” he asked yelling, and also ran behind Kennedy’s back. Zoran pointed at Zircon and said, “Oh,” she said. “You mean her? That’s Zircon. We found her on Doctor’s front lawn, and he the revived her. She was shut down when we found her.” Astro’s friends looked at Zircon closely. “What’s that jewel on her head?” Kennedy asked. Zircon touched the jewel softly on her head. “This is known as the Adrenaline Jewel,” she said, smiling. “It holds most of my powers and energy in order to stay alive. If this jewel were to come out of my head, I would shut down.” Astro’s friends gasped except for Kennedy. He was thinking about Zircon’s crash landing. “Zircon,” he said. “How did you end up on Dr. O’shay’s lawn?” Zircon’s happiness turned upside-down. She put her hands over her ears, closed her eyes, and replied, “Please don’t ask me that question! I don’t want it to ruin my day today!” Kennedy put one of his hands behind his head. “Oh, sorry,” he said. “It’s okay,” Zircon said. “You can ask her some other time,” Astro said. “Right now, we’re just showing her around the city.” “Besides, what are you guys doing here anyway?” Alejo asked. “We’re waiting for Dr. O’shay,” Zircon said. “He’s in Central City shopping for supplies.” “What is he buying them for?” Abercrombie asked. “For Zircon, of course!” Zoran said. “Zircon is going to be a new student at school on Monday!” “That’s great!” Kennedy said, until he looks at his watch. “Oh! I almost forgot, Astro! We have Rocket Ball practice at the practice court at 3 P.M!” “Thanks for reminding me,” Astro said. “What’s Rocket Ball?” Zircon asked. “Rocket Ball holds a combination sport of football, soccer, and skating all in one,” Alejo said. “The object of the game is to get the rocket ball into the goal.” “But, you have to do it while you’re in roller blades,” Abercrombie said. “That sounds like fun!” Zircon says happily. “Even though I haven’t played before, can I at least give it a shot?” “Well,” Kennedy said. “Well, we could use another player. The team that we’re going to face also has another player joining. So, okay, you can be on our team.” Zircon smiles and jumps a little off the ground. “Oh, thank you!” she said. “We have to go, Astro,” Alejo said, pointing his thumb in the other direction. “Okay, Zircon and I will meet you guys at the practice court later,” “Okay, see you guys there!” Kennedy yelled, and Astro’s friends ran out of Central City. “Did you here what they said, Zircon?” Astro asked. “They’re actually going to let you join the rocket ball team!” Zircon smiled. “I know!” she said. “I’ll do the best I can to win!”
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Chapter 9: Astro and Zircon go to Rocket Ball Practice After half an hour has passed, Dr. O’shay appeared out of Central City, holding a bag of supplies. “Alright, you three, I have the supplies,” he said. “Zircon, did you enjoy your adventure of Central City?” Zircon smiled. “Of course, Doctor!” she said. “This is only area number one of your journey,” Astro said. “We can show you other parts of the city tomorrow.” Zircon turned her head and noticed bunch of roller coasters and the Ferris wheel from afar, and then pointed at that area. “Is that the Amusement Park?” she asked. “Of course, it is!” Zoran said. “That place is filled with rides and attractions that tons people enjoy!” “But that can wait until tomorrow,” Astro said. “Okay,” Zoran and Zircon both said. *I can’t wait until tomorrow!* she thought. *All of those rides look so cool, and I just feel like going on them now!* Doctor looked at his watch and realized it was almost 3 P.M. “Astro,” he said. “I believe you should get going. You don’t want to miss Rocket Ball practice.” “Okay,” Astro said. “I’m also needed to bring Zircon.” “What for?” “She’s going to be a new player on our team. Besides, the other team has a new player, too.” “Alright,” Doctor said. “Go ahead, Zircon. I hope you’ll do well.” “I’ll try my best, Doctor,” she said. “Good luck, guys!” Zoran said. “Hope you win!” Doctor and Zoran waved, got into the air car, and left Central City. “I’ll carry you there,” Astro said. “No thanks,” Zircon said. Astro felt confused. “How come?” he asked. “Because I can fly, that’s why,” Zircon said. “Watch this.” Using the power from the Adrenaline Jewel, Zircon instantly floated in the air. “Wow,” Astro says amazed. “But, don’t you get tired if you used too much power from that jewel on flying?” “No,” Zircon said. “Flying is simple for me. It may look that I’m using the jewel’s power to fly, but for me, flying doesn’t seem to waste my energy.” “Okay, I understand,” Astro said, as he also started to fly in mid air. “But, let’s get to the practice court, our friends are waiting.” “Our friends?” Zircon asked. “Yeah,” Astro said. “By the looks of what they said that you can join our Rocket Ball team, I believe they’re your friends now. Besides, they also know a little about you.” “That’s sweet of you, Astro,” Zircon says smiling. Astro had nothing else to say, instead, he blushes. Astro and Zircon then continues on their way to the Rocket Ball practice court. --------------------
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Chapter 10: The Bet On their way to the practice court, Zircon noticed something swift passed her while flying, and it landed on top of the Eagle-shaped building. She looked closely at the figure, and noticed a person with black, almost spiky hair on its head, and its chin. Zircon gasped. “Zircon, are you all right?” Astro asked her. Zircon turned her head towards Astro. “I think I saw something on top of that Eagle-shaped building,” she answered. Astro and Zircon looked at the top of the building. Zircon couldn’t believe it, but the black-shaped figure disappeared! “I don’t see anything there,” Astro said, as he turned his head towards Zircon. “You must be hallucinating.” “Maybe,” Zircon said. *I thought I saw something there,* she thought. *Maybe I am hallucinating.* It was almost 3 o’ clock when Astro and Zircon got to the practice court. Astro’s friends and the other team were already there. “Astro! Zircon! Glad you guys can make it!” Alejo said, yelling from across the court. “Hey!” The captain said from the other team stepped out from the other side of the court. “What’s she doing here?” “Zircon is here to play Rocket Ball,” Kennedy said. The other player wasn’t very surprised. “Girls can’t play,” “What do you mean, Zircon can’t play?” Alejo asked. “It’s likely to know that girls never play manly sports like this!” he said while pointing at Zircon. Zircon’s feelings were hurt pretty badly. “Hey!” Astro said, walking up to the team captain while standing in front of Zircon. “It doesn’t have to be just boys playing this sport! Girls can play too! Rocket Ball is not girl-free zone sport; it’s a team play sport!” Astro’s friends cheered, and Zircon smiled. The other team’s captain rubbed his nose and said, “#####. So, you think that girls can play this sport? You must be kidding!” “I never kid,” Astro said. “I’ll bet you’re just scared that our team can get your team, beaten by a girl!” Both teams gasped except for the other team’s captain and Astro. “I’m not afraid,” he said. “And from what you said is great, for a bet.” Both teams gasped again. “Fine!” Astro said. “If our team beats your team, you promise us that Rocket Ball is not a manly sport! Again, both teams gasped. “Okay,” The team captain said, rubbing his chin. “Not bad for a bet. But, if my team beats your team, girls will never play Rocket Ball again!” Astro started thinking about the team captain’s bet. Kennedy buts in and says, “Can I have a word with Astro?” Astro follows Kennedy to an open space of the court. “Astro, are you nuts? This is crazy! You can forget about the bet!” “I can’t chicken out now,” Astro said. “If I do, the other team’s captain is going to win by default, and he’s going to not make girls like Zircon play Rocket Ball again.” “Astro, you expect to believe a guy like him would do that to every girl who plays Rocket Ball?” Kennedy asked. “Besides, why are you doing this?” Astro turned his head towards Kennedy. “So Zircon can keep playing Rocket Ball,” he said. Kennedy mouth flew open a little when he gasped. “Listen, I believe Zircon really seems to like this sport, and she just started playing. I really don’t want her to stop playing Rocket Ball now.” “Gosh, Astro,” Kennedy said. “I never meant it that way. Alright, close the bet, if you want to, Astro, if you really want to do it for Zircon.” “Thanks a lot, Kennedy,” Astro said smiling. Astro walked towards the other team’s captain and replied, “Okay, the bet is on, but I’m only doing this for Zircon.” Zircon was surprised from what Astro said, and then smiled. “Alright,” The team captain said. “But, to make it official, let’s shake hands on it.” The team captain stuck his hand in front of Astro. “Alright,” Astro said. “Let’s have a fair game, and let the best boy, robot, or girl, win.” Astro then shook hands with the team captain, and both partly smiled. *Excellent,* he said muttering. *And once we win, Zircon will be running home, crying like a baby.* When the team captain said that, he said it, with his fingers crossed behind his back! --------------------

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Not sure if I posted this before. I think I may have. Top honour for robot heroes Asimo has been making friends all over the world Five mechanical marvels are to be honoured in a hall of fame for their contribution to robotic history. The tin-filled hall of fame at Carnegie Mellon University will be graced with Honda's Asimo bot, Shakey the Robot, Astroboy, C3PO and Robby the Robot. They were hand-picked by a panel of robot-lovers, including sci-fi legend Arthur C Clarke. The android heroes will be officially taking their place in the Robot Hall of Fame at a special ceremony in October. Last year, the Mars explorer Sojourner, the assembly line Unimate, Hal 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey and R2-D2 from Star Wars were inducted. "The jury discussed this year's candidates at length and has made some excellent choices," said James Morris, founder of the Robot Hall of Fame. "I'm happy to see some older, historically important robots like Shakey and Robby joining the newer ones like Asimo and C3PO." Circuit city THE ROBOTIC JURY Minoru Asada: President of the International RoboCup Federation Ruzena Bajcsy: Director of Citris at UCLA Rodney Brooks: Director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Ellsworth Brown: President of Carnegie Museums and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Arthur C Clarke: Legendary science fiction author Henrick Christensen: Founding chairman of the European Robotics Network Ray Jarvis: Governing board member of the International Foundation for Robotics Research Don Marinelli: Professor of Drama and Arts Management at Carnegie Mellon University Raj Reddy: ACM Turing Award winner (1994) Chuck Thorpe: Director of Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute Sherry Turkle: Founder and director of MIT's Initiative on Technology and Self Will Wright: Interactive games designer and creator of SimCity See more robots in action Not just any old chunk of metal gets the privilege, but bots from both science and science fiction are eligible for the honour. Each hunk of circuitry had their own supporters on the jury panel too. Asimo was chosen as a truly revolutionary example of how human-like robots can be. It has been around the world showing off its dancing, running and stair-climbing skills. Click here to find out more about Asimo Shakey the Robot is a veteran compared to Asimo. He is a bot of the 60s, "born" in 1969. Shakey was considered by juror Illah Nourbakhsh, who leads the Nasa/Ames Research Center robotics group, to be "an earth-shaking early robot". "Shakey already sported a full planning system, wireless video system and visual interpretation of its scene, visual obstacle avoidance and the ability to manipulate the world via pushing," he said. "In other words, it was way ahead of its time and set a standard for a great many years." Bot's got soul Robby was chosen for personality over looks The other three clever robots, from the world of science fiction, were chosen for their memorable influence on global popular and sci-fi culture. Star Wars chatterbox C3PO will be reunited with his old buddy R2-D2, who earned his place in 2003. Another film icon, Forbidden Planet's Robby, was chosen in recognition of its personality, and enduring place in science fiction. They are to be joined by Japan's cult cartoon figure, Astroboy (once known as Atom Boy). He is akin to a metallic version of Pinocchio because he is a robot with a soul. Robots had to be nominated and the jury - made up of prominent names in science and technology - made its final choice during an international telephone and web conference. The special induction ceremony will be held at the hall of fame on 11 October, barring any short-circuits.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 16, 2005 Ray, I hope you voted for Astroboy in the top animation list. After the list is done we should compare lists and see what we came up with. I'd be interested in seeing yours.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 17, 2005 An interesting point was brought up on Astroboy-online.com The subs could easily be referring to the two 1960s episodes which are extras with the 1980s DVD set while the other 51 episodes would be dubbed in English. That would than explain the 51 number. I hope that's not the case but it looks like it might be. Cool to have a couple of 60s episodes on there though. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted September 17, 2005 One of the greatest things about Astroboy is the music. Tremendous scores and they really like their classical stuff. This particular episode takes excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
