Myxamatosis 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 With what is being called the most star studded wrestling event of all time, I have reservations on whether or not the WWE is taking this as event serious. It seems like the storyline development for wrestlers like Jericho, Booker T, RVD, Smackdown Tag Team Champs - The Bashams, WGTT, and Rey Jr leading up to Wrestlemania 20 is nonexistent. Is there a possibility that they would be left off the card? Around this time last year, the seeds for storyline development on matches like Michaels - Jericho, Angle - Brock, Taker - Show/Albert, and McMahon - Hogan were planted. What matches have begun storyline development? Benoit - Brock? That's not even set in stone, according to some reports. Goldberg - Brock? What storyline could they come up with in one and a half months to build that type of matchup? Taker - Kane? Who really wants to see that. With Mania 20 just around the corner, the WWE is just not showing the aggressiveness in promoting this card that I thought they would. Sure, you see banners all over WWE arenas, but what can one say is even anticipated on the card?
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Will they make the card? Jericho: Yes...somewhere Booker T: I'll go with probably not RVD: Most likely not (TWO years in a row...WOOO!!!) The Bashams: I'll say No. WGTT: Please...they can't even make the regular ppvs all the time...are they even on Smackdown? Or are they part of the Velocity crew full time? Rey Jr: He'll be in the opener somehow.
Guest Korgath Report post Posted January 8, 2004 I guess the idea is to build up the Rumble first... and use the Rumble to set the storyline for Wrestlemania. Yeah, right. Who am I kidding. They'll probably change the card twice the night before WMXX and screw all the fans over.
Kizzo 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 This is going to be a total mess with the current creative team... They should have planned this event long ago...starting in July or August.....so that everything would had run smooth.....Instead they probaly are just now starting the drafts for the event...and that will change until the event actually starts... The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Do they even care about this show? Hell fucking yes they do. They started hyping this show the day of WrestleMania last year. They've got as much riding on this show as just about any other in history. Everything they've done since WMXIX has basically been the buildup to XX. They NEED this show to succeed. Myxamatosis 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 What about these year-round workers who have worked hard all year and have had decent storylines throughout: Spanky? Tajiri? (He carried the cruiser division and was a tag team champ!) I just feel for the guys who bust their asses night in and night out and on the biggest PPV to date, they are going to be off the card. It's going to be a 4-5 hour show!
Kizzo 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Yes...they have done alot of hype.... And far as buildup I haven't seen any yet....if reports are true they havne't even figured out who will be in the main event....first it was Brock and Goldberg...then its a tag team match with Rock and Foley teaming up.... That tells me how sloppy things are going..
Myxamatosis 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 The seeds for a Foley angle have been planted, so that is a development. But what about RVD? What about Matt Hardy? What about Zach Gowen!!! Okay, not Zach....
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Report post Posted January 8, 2004 The "creative" team seems to think it is more important to build up a washed up former wrestler as a "sheriff" to foil another non wrestler, focus on the announcers going back and forth about college football teams and other jabber rather than build to what should be WWE's biggest show in many years. Who wants to bet they will throw together 5-6 matches the week before the show with no build-up like the Edge Booker match built on a shampoo comerical a week before the show. A far cry from years ago when the WHOLE card was promoted and hyped a good month before the show.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Do they even care about this show? Hell fucking yes they do. They started hyping this show the day of WrestleMania last year. They've got as much riding on this show as just about any other in history. Everything they've done since WMXIX has basically been the buildup to XX. They NEED this show to succeed. That's true. It's ludicrous to say that they don't when they have a WM XX banner at every PPV along with the particular PPV's banner, and when they flash the XX logo in the corner at least once on every TV show for months now. And according to Meltz, the main storylines have already been pencilled in. But I do agree about them not having a clue regarding most of the guys you mentioned. Who is going to challenge the Bashams any time soon as they plod along as the head of a barely existant division? When was the last time WGTT has been in a storyline and not just fodder like last week? Why are they doing B show duty? The same goes for La Resistance now that they replaced useless Grenier with decent Conway and have now become watchable. I scratch my head at WWE's mentality of giving guys like these four PPV matches and big storylines during their growing pains, and then depushing them once they improve. Weird. On another note, I certainly hope Jericho is proud of the storyline with Trish that he helped write; it's not like there's anything else going on with him at the moment. RVD and Booker? Don't get your hopes up. As for Taker/Kane, you do have to admit there is a demand for that now that Kane is unmasked and after he 'buried' Taker.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Wrestlemania appears to be setting up "The Old guard vs The New Guard" Foley vs Orton- Cause obviously, Orton is very much like Foley Taker vs Kane- Don't look at me, I'm just typing this It LOOKS like they might set up Austin vs HHH and Chavo vs Eddie, but that match will be over and done by NWO I would say. Brock will either get the Rumble winner or he'll take on Goldberg. I'm leaning more towards the Rumble winner since I now believe the RAW WORLD TITLE match will be AUSTIN VS HHH. caboose 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Its actually a lot closer to two months away. So there is even less chance that anything will be done for the aforementioned midcard wonders.

Kizzo 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 As I stated in my other post....they should have planned this in July or August...or better yet if you really want to plan ahead...after the final draft of Wrestlemania 19 was finish they should have started on XX... You dont' need all the final drafts done...but you should atleast have a sense of what direction you want to go...and what needs to be accomplish after March... Guest Repo Man Reborn Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Why worry about matches when they have to worry about which band will be performing? They never worry about that. Creed, Puddle of Mudd and Limp Bizkit are on speed dial. And if they really want to mix it up, they can bring back that crappy Rage rip-off band. D- GENERATION X! Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted January 8, 2004 You know, the WWE has a real good opportunity to put on a classy, memorable event which will both put over the young stars of tommorow while giving a nod to the stars of the past, who have made it all possible. They have an opportunity to make this a classic sports entertainment show which will please the live crowd and the PPV audience. All it will take is some serious thought and hard work and for certain people to put their egos/political shite aside for one night to do themselves and their company proud. In others words, it will be the biggest disappointment since RAW X and will fail for many of the same reasons that show did.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Well, WM 20 is going to make _A LOT_ more money than RAW X; therefore the amount Vince will be willing to invest in WM is a lot more than RAW X. So he'll be paying a lil extra more to bring in Mae Young - first class all the way.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Oh yeah! I just can't wait for the "legends" ceremony with Mae Young and co. Of course, Orton will come out and "kill" all of the legends. Actually, if Bret Hart is at Mania and takes an RKO then Orton's nickname could end up being alot more accurate.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2004 I could see that happening.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Let's see... If Benoit gets the shot at Lesnar, thats obviously been set up. If Angle faces Eddie, the build up just started despite it being completely nonsensical at this point. If Foley faces Orton in some capacity, that's been set up. If Kane faces Undertaker or Booker T... blah, blah, blah. If Jericho faces Christian... Any women's title thing pretty much is set since they all seem to be feuding with each other already. WHOLE LOTTA IFS.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted January 8, 2004 Well, on the Smackdown side, Eddie/Angle in a low card comedy match seems to be the only seeds planted.

You've just described two hours of the Wrestlemania 20 footage. It pretty bad when we all can sit here and predict the outcome of this PPV. The WWE hasn't even set in stone what they want to do and we've already predicted and analyzed it.
