Styles 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2004 I accidently posted this at first in the CE folder! Woops. While this Wednesday's (1/21/04) NWA/TNA PPV features the debut of Johnny Fairplay, known as "The Most Hated Man In America", one has to wonder whether TNA Management Consultant Don Callis will be around for the signing of the biggest heel in Survivor history. Callis made the Fairplay announcement prior to his post-main event proclamation that he would quit if the decision wasn't reversed in the A.J. Styles and Erik Watts win over Jeff Jarrett and Abyss. The NWA's Director Of Authority Watts countered Callis by claiming he also would "walk" if the match result didn't stand. TNA officials have a difficult decision to make. In my opinion, it boils down to who they feel is the most valuable person to the company, Callis for his marketing (out of the ring) moves or Watts for his decisions on in-ring activity. We'll find out their feelings this Wednesday ... Callis or Watts. Speaking of Watts, his masked, mystery man El Leon (The Lion) will make his match debut in a "Street Fight" against NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett. We'll determine the number one contenders to the NWA Worlds Tag Team Champs, 3 Live Kru, when America's Most Wanted meet The TNA Redshirts. The Sandman will be bringing in ECW hardcore star Balls Mahoney for a revenge tag against The Gathering, C.M. Punk and Julio Dinero. The former associates square off when Glen Gilberti and David Young face Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger. And the New Franchise of Shane Douglas and Michael Shane will have their plates full when they oppose two members of the former Triple X faction in Elix Skipper and Christopher "The Fallen Angel" Daniels. We'll see you Wednesday night from the TNA Asylum LIVE on Pay Per View. For months I've received hundreds of letters from TNA fans who are not able to receive our weekly PPV broadcasts. Reasons range from location (international fans) to satellite providers (Dish Network viewers). Well TNA ON DEMAND is for you. You can now watch NWA TNA PPVs on your personal computer. Also, fans who ARE able to watch our PPVs can now re-live their favorite moments and shows. Fans who are new to the TNA product can watch previous shows. For more details, check out TNA ON DEMAND on this website. We invite your questions and comments to [email protected]. Remember that due to the heavy volume, Mike is not able to answer every question or respond personally. Please include your hometown and state (and country if outside the U.S.). Let's go to the electronic mailbag -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: ERIC HENDLEY Do you think Vince McMahon should buy TNA? ANSWER: No way. The key to keeping the professional wrestling business alive is via competition. The availability of an alternative wrestling promotion is a must for the benefit of the fans and everyone who cashes a check in the industry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: CHRIS Is there any chance of TNA opening a wrestling school? What is La Parka up to these days? ANSWER: I've heard rumblings that TNA officials are once again considering opening a wrestling school in Nashville. We'll bring you the information on our website as soon as it becomes official. There have been several wrestlers using the La Parka name and costume in Mexico in the past few years. AAA actually owns the La Parka name. WCW's La Parka is now wrestling for the EMLL group in Mexico as La Park Original wearing a red outfit to differentiate him from the others. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: DANIEL KILLS (AUSTRALIA) When will Sabu, Bam Bam Bigelow, Saturn, Jerry Lynn and Buff Bagwell appear in TNA? ANSWER:All of the above, with the exception of Bigelow, have already appeared for TNA in our year and a half of existence. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: CHRISTINA SCHMALZ (PENNSYLVANIA) I loved seeing you and Jeff Jarrett get into it Wednesday night on the PPV. That is entertainment gold. If you ask me, he needs to start showing you some respect. Kudos to Tiny too. He sure earned his paycheck last night.TNA is a wonderful alternative to the other option. Our whole family looks forward to Wednesday nights. ANSWER: I realize that as the play by play voice of TNA I need to mantain a certain amount of impartiality. But, last Wednesday, the stipulations were too important and too far-reaching to allow Jarrett and Abyss to win in that manner. Fortunately, Bill Behrens of the NWA Board felt the same way and re-started the match. You're right about Tiny. The TNA bell ringer just couldn't take Kid Kash's crap any more and hit the ring like a man possessed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: ROBERT BOCCHINO (STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK) WCW had Starrcade. WWE has Wrestlemania. What's the grand daddy of them all for TNA? ANSWER: TNA doesn't have an annual signature PPV event ... yet. We were anticipating that the postponed Bound For Glory show would be our calling card. Stay tuned to see how things unfold in 2004. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: TOMMY HOWE (PINCKNEYVILLE, ILLINOIS) Will there be a feud between TNA and AAA? I love TNA. It is a superior product. Keep up the good work. I'll be watching. ANSWER: Look for the America's X Cup on February 11 involving four of the top stars from TNA and four top AAA stars in an X Division Tournament. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: MATT GIBSON (RUSSIA, OHIO) In your opinion, what stable was the best of all time? ANSWER: The original Four Horsemen set the standard for wrestling factions. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: CHRIS HEDRICK I always enjoy your commentary. NWA TNA is by far the best wrestling going today. Is Slash the same person as the former wrestler Wolfie D? ANSWER:Yes, Slash was Wolfie D in a former wrestling life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: MICHAEL DREKSLER What ever happened to Black Gordman and The Great Goliath? ANSWER: Both Gordman and Goliath have retired. Gordman's son recently wrestled for the WWE at a RAW taping in San Antonio, Texas. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: CHRISTIAN (SWEDEN) What's the difference between announcing in WCW and NWA TNA? ANSWER: Night and day. The support of TNA management and their ability to give me freedom behind the microphone are unlike anything I ever experienced in WCW. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: NIGEL (INDIA) Did Bob Backlund ever hold a Worlds Title for six years? ANSWER: Not exactly. Backlund was WWF Worlds Champion on three occassions. His first run was from February, 1978 (defeating Superstar Billy Graham) to November, 1979 (losing to Antonio Inoki). He regained the belt from Inoki in December, 1979 and held it until December, 1983 (losing to Iron Sheik). If you discount the one week reign of Inoki, you can make a case that Backlund was champ for two months shy of six years. Backlund also had a three day reign in 1994 as a transitional champ (beating Bret Hart, losing to Diesel) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: ERNEST MARY I've been a fan for over for 30 years and wondered if Blackjack Mulligan is still wrestling? ANSWER:No, Mulligan has been retired for years. He would be in his early 60s. Last I heard he was a deep sea diver. His son Barry Windham has recently returned to the ring for the MLW promotion. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Tenay [email protected]
