The Fucking Nile thread

Recommended Posts

Lately, Nile has been getting praised by quite a few on this board, and I thought I'd open a seperate topic for the band.

I had heard them before a few days ago, but just a few songs here and there. Lately, I've been inspired to actually listen to entire albums.

"In their Darkened Shrines" is just AMAZING. There's no other word to describe it. I finally got the chance to actually listen to the complexities of the instruments, and they're mindblowing. The drummer must be Goro from Mortal Kombat. God damn.

And Agent, I'd wholeheartedly agree with you... "Unas, Slayer of the Gods" may be the best 12 minutes of death metal I've ever heard.

I'm not even that much of a death metal fan, but I agree that Nile is good shit.

I'm aware that death metal may or may not be a completely proper term in referense to Nile, but please no lectures on what the proper term is.

Count me in as a massive Nile fanboy.

"Ramses Bringer of War" and how the first two minutes sounds like World 8 from Mario 3 is great, followed by a severe asskicking. I first heard it in a video for TOD, and that song goes great with violence.

Fuck I heart Nile.

That's where I first heard it too. Did Lars do that one?

Semantics have gotten ugly lately. Rest assured though, that Nile is as death metal as death metal can get. Get Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren Ka next, NM.

It's brutaller, and a little less focused than In Their Darkened Shrines, but it's just about the meanest circle of plastic there is. The cd starts with "Smashing the Antiu" which they might as well call "Smashing your Cochlea." The egyptery on the album is arranged well, and there's a nifty chanting number that's nice to play loudly when you're parking your vehicle in front of a large crowd of people.

Definitely, Nile is an amazing band. My freshman year of college I took a Music Appreciation course and I let my professor listen to a couple songs. He wanted to know why metal bands had to play so loudly, and I brought in Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-KA to show him why. He actually liked it (or at least didn't hate it). The dude is pretty old and listens to mostly Classical, so I was caught off guard. He actually wanted me to bring it to the next class to play for the class (the track with the Gregorian-esque chants).

It's amazing because it's an epic song that demands your attentiont through its entirety.

For some reason, a couple of years ago, I just could not get into Nile, even though I enjoy death metal... suppose I'll have to give them a second shot

All I know is that a moderator at the King's X site board is really into them and

their drummer.

ok, so through unofficial channels I have procured temporary copies of Amongst the Catacombs Of Nephren Ka, Black Seeds Of Vengeance, Festivals Of Atonement, In The Beginning, In Their Darkened Shrines, and Ramses Bringer Of War . I am just coming up to the end of ...Shrines right now.
