Terrell Owens blasts Jeff Garcia

Recommended Posts

I originally heard this on the radio yesterday, then found this on a local message board:

On his official Web site, Owens said that he would rather play alongside a better quarterback on another team, The San Jose Mercury News reported.

A fan asked him what he thought was Garcia's biggest weakness: inaccurate passes, checking down to a secondary receiver too quickly or scrambling too often.

"All of the above!'' Owens answered. "Hey, I can tell you are a fan and really watch the game, because you're right on point.''

Owens generally replied to fans concerning the team's quarterback situation by saying that he would consider staying with the team if a quarterback like backup Tim Rattay or someone like him were the starter. And he constantly emphasized that he wanted to play with a good quarterback and with a team that would win a Super Bowl.

He also answered one fan by saying he's willing to work out a contract if the 49ers could get a quarterback that could match his skills as a receiver and that "a receiver is only as good as his quarterback."

He also poked fun at Garcia's arrest for driving under the influence, saying that if the quarterback came to his Super Bowl party he would dispatch a limousine to make sure Garcia got home safely.

According to police records released Thursday, the quarterback's blood-alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.

"Everybody wants to criticize me for this and that, but have I represented the 49ers in that fashion? Nope -- I don't think so! I'm not the problem, I'm the answer! If I can't get a QB to help us win the Super Bowl, I won't be back!''

And here is the story regarding going to Philly:

Owens believes he would be perfect for Philly

District attorney's office reports blood-alcohol level of .20 for Garcia

By Roger Phillips, STAFF WRITER

Sounding ever more like a person desiring a change of scenery, San Francisco 49ers receiver Terrell Owens, a prospective free agent, has made a pitch to the Eagles in a Philadelphia newspaper.

Quoted in Thursday's Philadelphia Inquirer, Owens made a less-than-complimentary comment about 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia, said the Niners have not fully exploited his talents, and discussed the prospect of playing with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"I think McNabb is a great QB," Owens told the Inquirer. "I think he's in a similar situation that I'm in out in San Fran. A receiver is only as good as his quarterback. My abilities rely on a QB's ability and his arm.

"Jeff is not someone that's a pocket passer that's going to throw 50 yards down the field. On the flip side, McNabb can throw that pass but has guys that struggle to turn them into something."

The Eagles have lost three straight years in the NFC Championship Game, and their receiving corps has been a target of criticism.

"I'd definitely love to come to Philly," Owens said. "Absolutely no disrespect to the players they have, but there's something out there they need to get them over the hump. I definitely believe I'm that missing piece."

Owens, 30, is recovering from a broken collarbone suffered in a victory at Philadelphia last month. He is expected to void his contract and become an unrestricted free agent on March 3.

"I want to play for a winner," Owens said. "And contrary to what people may believe, I wouldn't be a distraction in Philly because they have the ingredients, the bona fide elements, to get where we're all trying to get. They utilize their weapons and their talents to the max. I don't believe that that was taking place here in San Fran."

Calls to 49ers general manager Terry Donahue and to Owens' agent David Joseph were not returned.

In another matter, the Santa Clara County district attorney's office issued a report on the Jan.14 arrest of Garcia on suspicion of drunken driving. The report stated that Garcia had a blood-alcohol level of .20 percent when he was arrested. The legal limit is .08.

Garcia's initial court appearance is scheduled for March 1.

Meanwhile, Garcia and the 49ers continue to discuss restructuring his contract, which if unchanged would cost the team roughly $10 million against the NFL salary cap in 2004.

"I think both sides are trying to work something out," said Garcia's agent Steve Baker, who declined to comment on Owens' remarks. "It's a complex negotiation. We've had extensive conversations."

Why would you be shocked? The man is still a good QB, and has had great numbers every year. McNair had a DUI or DWI last year, and he was co-MVP this year.

However, I think Rattay did a better job than Garcia.

How can you say that?!?! The man set a ton of 9er passing records.

EDIT: The guy also has a career passer rating of 88.3

If you want some entertainment go read the his website forum.

You have to register to read them. Under the "Ask Terrell" section supposedly the real Terrell Owens responds and I guess the articles above confirm it. Thing is "TO" (his registered name) isn't quite as articulate as the quotes above. He types in all caps and sounds like he is 14 years old. Here's one reply talking about Garcia.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT 2 WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I'M SORRY U LOST RESPECT 4 ME VOICING MY OPINION ABOUT WHT I THINK ABOUT GARCIA & THE DIRECTION I C OUR TEAM GOIN W/ GARCIA @ QB. He lives through tearing up bad defenses in the NFC West...he doesn't do shit against anything that's an above average defense.

I honestly don't think TO is a good fit for either team.

The Eagles need an upgrade at receiver and a run defense to get over the hump. While TO is a huge upgrade he'll be eating up a ton of cap room and it will be hard for Philly to address the other issues it has. For TOs price you could get two inferior receivers but still be upgrading and still have some money for the future.

Atlanta I honestly can't see it working out. Once he realizes Vick has no intention of throwing the ball most of the time he's going to get pissed. And I honestly don't see how they can afford him without gutting the defense and running game.

Sure, I'll believe TO can handle being second fiddle on a team when hell freezes over.

McNabb is the star of the Eagles and if anyone really thinks Owens can handle hearing "Donovan McNabb and the Eagles" instead of hearing his own name might be in for a shock.

He's a good receiver but his ego is much bigger than this.

It's funny because I never remember people dogging TO for his off-field character.

I say the Niners should scrap Garcia & TO, save some cap money, draft J.P. Losman, have a shitty year and then turf Erickson.

The Eagles D-Line was hit bad by injury. Hollis Thomas, Derrick Burgess and i think Paul Grasmanis (sp?) were all injured. They only really need a WR. The run defense should be bteer. I dont think Atlanta would be willing to shell out the money for T.O just one year after getting Peerless Price from the Bills.

So yesterday, head coach Dennis Erickson was asked during an interview what he thought about the situation. He told the interviewer that this was the first he was hearing about it. Despite the fact its been on ESPN and everwhere else. Moron.

If T.O. wants to win a Super Bowl, why would he go the Eagles? (sorry Philly fans, the joke was right there, someone had to say it).

Owens is an idiot, and proved it in that article. First of all, making fun of someone's DUI is classless, and Owens better hope that he stays on the good side of the law because hypocrisy is not an attractive trait to have. Second of all, who was QBing the year before, when SF was a playoff caliber team? How much did Garcia fall apart in one year? Third of all, which team that is oh-so-close to the Super Bowl is going to want to add a locker room cancer and distraction like T.O. and risk fucking it all up?

I hope he goes to Philly, just to watch their fans boo him senseless after watching him half-ass it in a few games.

The Eagles aren't going to take TO. Besides his attitude, the fact that he is 30 is what will chase Reid away. The name getting thrown around in this area is Justin McCareins is the guy they are going to make a run at.

I would prefer Darrell Jackson, because then that leaves enough money to go after Ogunlaye (sp?) of the Dolphins. They need someone to get to the QB. And for all the grief they get, the Eagles front office knows how to set up a deal for restricted FAs that their teams can't match.
