Guest O.J. Hart Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I remember, back in the early 90's through about 1996, every weekend on Supertars, they would have reports from the WWF Event Update Center. It was pretty cool to here them say that WWF was coming to your hometown, and they'd run down matches, and they would show pre-recorded promos where whoever was cutting the promo would talk about their match and how they couldn't wait to come to that town to finally get their hands on whoever they were facing. I also liked this, because it would give you about all the matches that would be happening, so you'd know what's gonna happen. It's kinda hard to find cards for house shows now(since WWE.com never posts cards for Pittsburgh shows!) What did you guys think about the weekly live event updates? Guest drdrainoscott Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Pretty much everyone seems to miss them. Not only did they hype up the cards, which in turn increased attendance, but it gave all wrestlers a chance to improve their mic skills. This topic gets discussed regularly on Meltzer's radio show. They could hardly say: And at so and so, the main event will be Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar! Wouldn't be much point in them wrestling at Mania if they already 'faced each other' at house shows. Guest Astro Report post Posted January 27, 2004 They had Bret/1-2-3 Kid vs Owen/Shawn(?) as main events leading up to WM X, and all it did to me was say "Cool I get to see the Harts clash before anyone else" Then you order the PPV cause "Nobody does PPV like the WWF!" Guest O.J. Hart Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Another cool thing about this was being able to make signs for the matches(since I was about 7 when I first watched Event Center for a live event I was going to). It would say something like the main event would be a Taker/Yoko casket match, and you could make a "R.I.P. Yoko" sign with a casket and a picture of his face on it. And they would always talk about previous shows that were at the arena, and show video clips from it. They should REALLY bring back WWF Event Center!
OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 They used to do this back in the 80's as well, as did the WWF. I used to like when a cage match was coming to town and they would do the interview behind a mesh cage. Of course they would then come to town with the blue bar cage. The one that pissed me off the worst was NWA back when they were doing the Bunkhouse Stampede. They had Dusty and Arn and all the wrestlers involved talking about all the weapons they were bringing with them to the ring and that everything would be brought out but the kitchen sink, but when they came to your town, their were no weapons. I remember going to a show in late 1994 where the Main Event was supposed to be Bret Hart vs. Jim Neidhart for the WWF Title. I was looking forward to see the Hart Foundation EXPLODE! However, by the time the show came to town it was Diesel vs. King Kong Bundy fot the Title in a 5ish minute match. Oy.
