Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 You know I watched Slamboree 98 and I forgot all about the whole big Vince/Eric match. What was the deal with this crap!? Did the fans actually think Vince would show? Did WCW actually think it'd make themselves look good by bad mouthing Vince and calling him a coward for not showing!? Couldn't Vince sue Eric for that whole debacle?
Guest WWF4Life Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 Probably, but it was no worse than what DX were doing at that time, 'invading' WCW. Didn't the WWF rig an electronic sign outside an arena to say Free Admittance for Nitro to make WCW look bad? It was just tit for tat at that time, and Bischoff was under pressure because of the ratings. Desperate men do desperate things.
Guest treble charged Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 I liked the time they had the "sky writing" outside the Nitro arena saying, "Rock vs. HHH Monday at 9 on USA" or something to that effect.
Guest Human Fly Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 It's probably good for Eric that Vince didn't show up, because I suspect Vince would've hurt him.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted April 14, 2002 Report Posted April 14, 2002 It's probably good for Eric that Vince didn't show up, because I suspect Vince would've hurt him. Are you serious? Vince would have gotten his ass kicked in a shoot.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Eric knows Karate. But Vince is much bigger.
Guest Human Fly Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 I've seen Eric throw a few karate kicks here and there, nothing special. What are his credentials?
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 He's supposed to have a black belt. But seriously the petty BS like this and the Tony/Foley "Asses in seats" comments just make WCW look like a bunch of jackasses. And on that side Vince and Co. were no better. Vince and Eric both appeared as little kids picking at each other at this time.
Guest Risk Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 What would have happened if Vince DID show up?
Guest RickyB Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 What would have happened if Vince DID show up? Then he probably would have just got his ass kicked backstage. If they let him go to the ring then Eric would have probably kicked his ass. Vince is big, but he's not strong and Eric is a legit black belt in karate. I hate the fact that WCW are labled as jackasses for badmouthing the WWF when Vince McMahon made every attempt to run down WCW. At that time there was a real ratings war going on, in 97 Vince was doing whatever he could to play down the fact that WCW was wiping the floor with them and in 98 both sides were doing whatever they could to get the upper hand. I also don't understand the whole thing with Shiavonne taking shots at the WWF and giving away results. If the WWF didn't want that to happen then why didn't they just run Raw live? The WWF stooped much lower to run other companies out of business in the 80's.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 WCW were jackasses regarding this, but it was no worse than DX or Billionaire Ted's Wrasslin War Room.
Guest Mole Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 They both had their shots at each other. I remember the DX invading WCW angle, I thought that was pretty sweet.
Guest Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Did they really show up at Turner headquarters and at the actual arena where WCW was?
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 yes they did. if vince had showed, secrutity wouldn't have let him in the building.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 I think Vince would've gotten in there and thrown a few gimmicked moves at Bischoff, who would have no sold and went Black belt on his ass. From there, lawsuits, fights and arrests would have taken place. I thought it was rather funny, and I don't for one second think Bischoff was serious.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 it was just an attempt to grab a few more buys. anyone who thought he'd show was fucked
Guest Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 The bets part of when DX invaded WCW was when X-Pac started shooting on the door woman about how he got fired over a fax machine and he wanted to talk to WCW. That had me crapping my pants. Also when they got the kid to admit he got his tickets for free was funny also.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Yeah.....neither side showed any class during the whole ratings war. It was kinda sad actually.
Guest mastermind Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Memories. If only the split can come close to that rivalry. Speaking about why the wwf didn't go live it was simple. The wwf couldn't afford it until USA Network financially backed them.
Guest Human Fly Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Was Bischoff just a black belt in karate, or was he a badass black belt in karate? You know what I mean, everyone knows the little guy who talks about how he's a black belt in karate and everytime he's about to get in a fight he get's in his little "karate" stance, and then proceeds to get his ass whooped. I can't help but think of Eric as this little wuss who knows some karate and let's it go all to his head. Supposedly he's all out of shape now too, so he must not have been that serious about it because he has no discipline. I would've loved to see them fight but if Vinnie could've gotten his hands on Eric, unless Bish knew some lethal stuff, it would've been over considering back then Eric looked all of 150 soaking wet.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Eh....Vince could've just sent Steve Blackman in. He could probably whip Bitchoff with his eyes closed.
Guest Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Probably, but it was no worse than what DX were doing at that time, 'invading' WCW. Didn't the WWF rig an electronic sign outside an arena to say Free Admittance for Nitro to make WCW look bad? It was just tit for tat at that time, and Bischoff was under pressure because of the ratings. What was the deal iwth that free admittance? They were giving away free tickets? And what were the ratings like when Bish made that challenge? I also don't understand the whole thing with Shiavonne taking shots at the WWF and giving away results. If the WWF didn't want that to happen then why didn't they just run Raw live? The WWF stooped much lower to run other companies out of business in the 80's. I never saw this. When did they do this and how did say the results?
Guest Risk Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Eric would have no choice to let him in the arena, otherwise he would have looked like a wuss. McMahon should have accepted his invitation and brought his whole roster with him. That would have been like a war.
Guest Singular Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 QUOTE [i think Vince would've gotten in there and thrown a few gimmicked moves at Bischoff, who would have no sold and went Black belt on his ass.] My sister has a Black Belt in Karate. She's 13. I really don't think Bishoff expected Vince to show up when he made his little challenge. I really miss the Monday night rating wars now that their gone. I guess I didn't appreciate them at the time, but some of the things they did seem very funny when I look back on them. The only time I remember WCW giving away RAW results was when they reffered to a former and future WCW employee named Dustin Runnles as "The transvestite weirdo Goldust" when he won the IC title.
Guest TheMikeSC Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 Probably, but it was no worse than what DX were doing at that time, 'invading' WCW.>>> It's actually much worse. The WWF didn't promise anybody making an appearance. And weren't their stories that Nash, Hall, AND Lex Luger actually tried to make an on-camera appearance. <<<Didn't the WWF rig an electronic sign outside an arena to say Free Admittance for Nitro to make WCW look bad?>>> I don't remember that, honestly---but WCW comped Nitro so much it was comical. <<<It was just tit for tat at that time, and Bischoff was under pressure because of the ratings. Desperate men do desperate things. >>> It wasn't tit for tat. WCW hinted that Vince might appear. dX made no such claims. -=Mike
Guest TheMikeSC Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote It's probably good for Eric that Vince didn't show up, because I suspect Vince would've hurt him. Are you serious? Vince would have gotten his ass kicked in a shoot. >>> Not necessarily. Eric just doesn't quite scream "bad-ass"---no matter what belt he holds in karate. -=Mike
Guest TheMikeSC Posted April 15, 2002 Report Posted April 15, 2002 What would have happened if Vince DID show up? Then he probably would have just got his ass kicked backstage. If they let him go to the ring then Eric would have probably kicked his ass. Vince is big, but he's not strong and Eric is a legit black belt in karate.>>> There's no guarantee of an ass-kicking backstage. Not many of the WCW guys really disliked McMahon. Eric, odds are, was less popular than Vince with many of the boys. <<<I hate the fact that WCW are labled as jackasses for badmouthing the WWF when Vince McMahon made every attempt to run down WCW. At that time there was a real ratings war going on, in 97 Vince was doing whatever he could to play down the fact that WCW was wiping the floor with them and in 98 both sides were doing whatever they could to get the upper hand.>>> Well, let's put "wiping the floor" in context. WCW's LARGEST ratings win ever was about 1.5. Not exactly the thrashing that legends are made of. The WWF wiped the floor with WCW in 1999-2000. WCW just beat WWF in 1996-97. <<<I also don't understand the whole thing with Shiavonne taking shots at the WWF and giving away results. If the WWF didn't want that to happen then why didn't they just run Raw live?>>> Not enough money, mainly. <<<The WWF stooped much lower to run other companies out of business in the 80's.>>> And that makes WCW's actions OK in what way, exactly? -=Mike
Guest Human Fly Posted April 16, 2002 Report Posted April 16, 2002 If Vince would've gotten backstage he probably would've left with half of the roster.
Guest caboose Posted April 16, 2002 Report Posted April 16, 2002 If Vince had got backstage, Nash probably would have bumped up his workrate and attacked Eric along with 75% of the roster including Hogan.
