Backseat Boys gone from CZW

Recommended Posts

I'd have to agree with Barber on XPW being huge and well infamous in and out of SoCal even before the philly invasion.

I saw XPW grow alot first hand by following them on TV and by attending alot of their shows since 2000. Believe me they had (and still have) alot of die hard fans who really loved the product for whatever reasons.

Heck I still think XPW is better known than CZW/ROH/PWG/IWA:MS/MLW etc as they were great at getting VHS/DVDs released on a national level (go to any big video store and look for wrestling, you will see mainly just XPW/WWE videos, that goes a long way with normal non-smark wrestling fans who probably think ROH is a motor oil)

Like him or not, Rob Black was a true master at getting people's attention. No matter what means he used XPW always found a way to push peoples buttons and get a reaction, but more importantly keep people talking about them. That is what made XPW huge and is why people still talk about that "crappy promotion" a year after it's death

Anyway back to the topic... somehow I have a feeling the Backseats will be back in CZW before long (like maybe by May or so)

I dont remeber ever seeing XPW beeing huge but i didnt really follow so cal at the time, I dont think they were big enough to invade Philly at the time, I cant really think of any XPW guys who would have worked out in NJPW at the time, Grimes was good but not NJPW style, so i think Inoki would have had to be crazy to work out a deal

The talks were to get Inoki publicity more than anything. I should've specified, also...talks were between Inoki's reps for his shoot fighting organization, not NJPW. There was a shoot fighting match on one of XPW's early house shows that very few know about. More info about it in my retrospective in the coming months. But ya, I agree, nobody in XPW would've fit NJPWs style.

SAT, Nick Mondo, Red, John House, WifeBeater, Nick Berk, Ty Street, Justin Credible, Tony Devito, Eric Garguillo, Adam Flash, Tony Mamaluke Homicide, Dan Maff and probably a few others were all brought in through the BackSeat Boyz.

This being said, John Zandig should be worshipping the ground the Backseats walk on, not being a prick and costing them money. Not to mention the fact that the Backseats are two of very few who tried to keep the variety alive in CZW while it reverted back to it's early days garbage.

I don't post much here, but I want to say have Inoki's reps call your promotion is no big deal, as every single promotion in SoCal has had reps at the shows and countless wrestlers have been given tryouts at the Inoki Dojo. PWG's last show had people from Inoki's office there and pics were even up on inokidojo.com. That shouldn't be used as a barometer of XPW's success.

I was referring to Inoki's shoot fighting promotion, not his wrestling promotion. I already stated that above. Few promotions have had rep.'s from his shoot fighting fed in attendance.

But that's not even what I was really talking about...let me clarify. Rarely known fact, since XPW bullshitted so much of the results to their really early cards - XPW had fighters straight from Inoki's shoot promotion work a shoot match live at an XPW event. Very few, if any, promotions have had that special attraction.

What shoot fighting promotion are you talking about? I've been to the Inoki Dojo, all they do is shootfighting there pretty much. I was at a lot of these early XPW shows and don't remember anything that looked like a shoot fight either, but I'm not saying it couldn't have happened. Since Paul T. worked in the Inoki office at the time I'll ask about that though.

Please explain what shootfighting promotion you are speaking of. Thanks.

Let me PM you. It's gonna be an interesting part of my upcoming XPW history piece, and I don't wanna give away too much of the info. I'll PM you in two min. with the info.

Before you respond, I think I may know what you are talking about. Are you talking about UFO? I wouldn't call that a shoot fed, since they were going to do worked shoots. Paul T. was the rep from the Inoki office contacting people on that, and it never really got off the ground.

Ruckus was really responsible for bringing Gargiulo in

I'll be damned, I now have one reason to like Ruckus.
