Assuming its Angle/Eddie

Recommended Posts

Kurt Angle wanted to get the title back, and wanted to get it on to someone he thinks that he can beat easily.

So why would he take him out of the Rumble?

Why does he think he can beat him easily? Kurt has never beaten Eddy.

Huh? I thought he beat Eddie before?

At least in tag ranks...

He's beaten Chavo, I'm sure. I think Eddy beat him once or twice in the SD6! matches.

It's quite obvious how this feud could make sense but I wouldn't count on the WWE Writing team to figure it out. You see, when Angle came back he was still chasing the WWE Title. With all the contenders rising on Smackdown! while he left, he needed to ease it a bit and try to make it easier. That's where the Eddie/Chavo feud comes into play. During this feud, Angle's whole intention was to have Eddie and Chavo stay together so they would be a tag team and Chavo can leech off of him so Eddie will never be in a World Title race. He did all he could, including getting Chavo Sr. and that obviously didn't work out. But he did achieve something during all of this. He got Eddie Guerrero out of the Royal Rumble. So Angle ended up losing and well, the Smackdown! Royal Rumble was about to occur. He was the one that attacked Eddie Guerrero. He did this to increase his chances. He ended up losing anyway, and after all of the work he had done, Eddie was getting a title shot while he still wasn't.

During the 3 way match, Angle wins, blah blah blah. Goldberg runs in and Eddie Wins the world title. On the next Smackdown! Eddie has a speech and everything and Angle comes in. Angle tells him that even though he's gone a long way to get that title, he doesn't deserve it at all. He goes on a mini-heel rant stating that champions aren't thiefs, dishonest men or cheaters. He tells him that the only reason he won that title was because of Goldberg. Tension was rising when Heyman makes a tag match for the World Tag Team titles. The new champions (Haas & Benjamin, hopefully by NWO) vs. Eddie and Kurt Angle. That night Angle turns on Eddie and Team Angle reforms. Angle cuts a promo on everything he did (stated above) to make sure he (Kurt Angle) had more of a chance to become the WWE Champion. When it didn't work he thought about two old friends. He thought about two men who didn't like Eddie Guerrero, and he thought of two guys who can get the job done, while doing it without lying, cheating or stealing. This leads to a 3 on 1 beat down. Angle can now be seen as a true heel with his re-alliance with Team Angle, and Eddie is going to get even more face pops because he's going to fight Angle & The World's Greatest Tag Team, on his own. This is what should happen if they want to get this feud done without having the fans confused who to root for, but it probably won't happen. BTW, I liked Team Angle so that's why it should happen as well. :D

I was with you right up until here. I *HATE* that excuse for turning people.

Fuck, just do it face vs. face at mania, and turn Angle heel when he realizes he can't win it clean. This thing has major legs if they save the angle heel turn for after mania.

Can someone refresh me on why exactly he has to turn anyway?

He's becoming Lex Luger.

No, no, no...

At least Lex Luger could stay healthy.

Oh, and I honestly don't see the point of giving the strap to Angle.

- He's the #3 babyface on the show, behind Eddie and Cena, both of whom regularly smoke him as far as crowd reactions go. If he turned heel, I could see the logic in it because it builds nicely to Angle/Cena II or Angle/Eddie II, but giving it to face Angle is just dumb.

- His neck has shot his potential as a long term player right now. Angle by all accounts won't be wrestling in five years.

- He's missed a hell of a lot of time in the last year, and he's only working a reduced schedule.

- Christ, he's not as good as Eddie in the ring, and he's not as over as Cena nor does he have Cena's potential to be a huge crossover star for the future. His ass jobs at Mania, setting up a heel turn. (When Kurt doesn't succeed he throws hissy fits. It's part of his character, and it would be a logical heel turn.)

Agreed.

No.

He jobs and retires or semi-retires. There's nothing left for him to do.

And I can't call anything that started off so illogically logical.

Actually, so far nothing is totally out of character. Kurt has been a well meaning goof before. Everyone knows he wants the belt, so that's understandable, right now there are a multitude of ways to go with it. It's really the WWE's play now.

I understand the character he's playing, I don't understand the motivation behind it.

Everyone knows he wants the belt,

Then he should focus on the champion, not a midcard tag team.

Kurt Angle beat Eddie Guerrero on the November 21, 2002 episode of Smackdown.

You know what this discussion is REALLY making a strong case for?

A second draft.

Everyone on both shows has already faced everyone else on their own show, right?

Well, he's a good guy, and he said he didn't want to see one of the best tag teams he ever faced break up. Being the well meaning goof he is, he interjected himself in the mix and merely fanned the flames.

Makes sense to me.

AS said who else does ANGLE have?

He brings up a good point, in just 5 years they have used Angle against every fucking meaningful name in the company (Rock, Jericho, Austin, Benoit, Taker, , Kane, Brock, Eddy, Cena, TBS, HHH, Edge, Mysterio and even Steve FN blackman)...

Whose left? Easy...Shawn, Foley and Flair.

Yep, Three Legendary performers...Flair/Angle writes itself (Greatest Wrestler of the 80's Vs Greatest wrestler of the 00's)*

*Yes, It's not really Angle but you can hype it like that.

Foley/Angle will never happen and Shawn/Angle has an outside chance...If Angle REALLY considers himself the second coming of Bret Hart (which only proves he has suffered one too many broken freakin Necks)...He should see if he can work with Shawn (ideally, they do this at Summer Slam in Toronto).

I'd Say have Kurt lose to Eddy at WM in a hot 25 minute match, CLEAN...Eddy moves on to feud with someone else(Cena, Lesnar etc)...Angle goes away for a couple months...Returns on Raw and they just use the Matt Hardy Excuse (why even bother, no one takes it seriously)...and instantly starts up a thing with Shawn, whom at this point is FULLY heel....They meet at Slam, Angle goes over...and has what I call a "retirement" run...Where he justs wrestles the best Raw has to offer...He goes through Flair, Jericho, Benoit, Matt, RVD, Edge and Orton of course. Let him go over or put over a Matt Hardy or something at WMXXI and walk away.

He can make periodic apperences over the years...

Why would he care enough about a team that he had wars with a couple of years ago that he would drop his persuit of the title and play family counselor?

Because he didn't want said team that he never really liked to break up?

In a double retirement match. Good. Or at least Kurt's retirement. Nice way to go out, wrestling Shawn.

Nah, Angle has enough Milage for another year...WWE will have to squeeze him dry...

I'd love it if he did a Hogan and just wrestled the PPVS against Jericho, Benoit and Matt to close out his career.

Matt=Lost cause.

Benoit, I have enough Angle/Benoit PPV matches to last me, thank you.

Maybe Jericho.

I'd rather he go out on a big match though. Flair.

I just want to see a Matt.Angle which could be a fucking great match...

Let's not forget Lance Storm...even though everyone else has...I know Storm won't get any on-screen stuff but if we're lucky they might do some house show matches or something.

Perhaps they can have The Rumble in Pittsburgh and Angle can go over Flair in his hometown.

He didn't drop his pursuit of the title. He was involved in the Royal Rumble, and there was already a Number One Contender for the Royal Rumble. When did he ever say "I don't want the title." NEVER.

He also never had any interaction with the champion like the other contenders did, and never fought for his contractually obligated rematch from September. He was perfectly content playing family counselor to two men he doesn't even particularly like.

I really don't understand how the style effected that match at all, then again I thought that match was near perfect for what it was.

All the stalling Eddie and Chavo did killed the match for me.

According to the storylines, Angle came back from his last neck injury a changed man (insert footage of him holding his baby daughter here) and so it DOES make sense in some way that he'd be friendly towards Los Guerreros.

Virtually everyone in the company has turned heel/face at least once, so is it really so hard to swallow that Kurt would be acting like a full-blown "mom, apple pie, and the flag" good old fashioned family-values "God Bless America" kind of guy?

If face Eddie wins: feuds with Angle, Lesnar, The Big Show (although I can't see him succesfully defending against Lesnar or TBS)

If heel Angle wins: feuds with Eddie, Cena, ?

I can't see Angle winning this feud if he's a heel, because he has no-one to drop the belt to or feud with for more than a few months. Therefore, I'm calling Eddie going over at WMXX (and possibly after too) before dropping the belt back to Brock.

Someone NAILED it when they said Kurt Angle is the second coming of Lex Luger.

Each men are each constantly pushed dispite never being real draws, booked strong as faces but pushed weak as bumbling heels. Hell, If you squint your eyes, Angle looks like a bald Luger. Each played the Patriotic Americana gimmick, Angle bragged about his Olympic credentials and Luger bragged about his bodybuilding "credentials"...

Both are Injury prone as fuck as well.
