What in the world is this about?

Recommended Posts

This is what was posted at 1wrestling.

This is the hardest letter I have ever had to write, and I do not know where to start.

There is no way for me to defend my actions, I did not realize how far gone I was until I read all the comments, how sad that it will be the memory of how people will remember me!

No excuses, Greg is right I need to get help! My wife has been telling me for sometime. I have been married to a great women for 23 years, and she does not deserve this nor do my children. It used to be cool to be loud and shocking, but not for a 42 year old man that says he's a Christian.

I can't think of anyone I did not embarrass.

To Arn, the Fans, the Wrestlers, my Wife and Family, and most of all Greg Price, Please forgive me.

The only thing for me to do is to seek help. The Fans were great to me, and I'm ashamed for the way I treated you. I hope one day you can forgive me.

Please pray for my Family and myself.

Greg,

You have always been very good to me, I want you to know I do need help and will get it. I hope one day we can talk again in better times.

Bob,

I apologize to you and your readers. I hope you can one day forgive me also.

Buddy Landel

Just what in the world did he do/say?

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Ah, thanks then. It just sounded like he did something horrible, which I guess getting drunk and making an ass out of himself publicly would do that. Was this the thing that was held in Charlotte? If so, I almost went to it. I wish I had've went to it, because I know someone who did and they had a great time and talked to a lot of great people personally, for hours. One of them was Charles Robinson I believe, that's what he said anyway.

Do you know what Buddy said/did exactly?

I just found this over on the WrestlingClassics message board, posted by Admin Mark Nulty.

Just got off the phone with Brian Fritz of Between the Ropes who I trust implicitly.

Brian is in Charlotte for the fan fest. This is what Brian says happened.

Buddy was in the 1-4 p.m. session Saturday. For some reason Landel was incredibly obnoxious and beligerent. He started by running smack about Ole Anderson, Arn Anderson, and other wrestlers to the fans... which he wouldn't repeat to the wrestlers' faces. Landel kept getting louder and obnoxious and started getting abusive with fans. He escalated to extremely loud, extremely obnoxious and was using vulgar language. It got to the point where the event promoters asked Landel to leave.

Landel then went to the hotel bar where he was drinking heavily and got into it with a fan around 7 p.m. Apparently, by this point Landel had a $200 bar tab, which if you do the math, is a lot of alcohol in a short period. Even by hotel bar standards. According to the bartender, Landel's drink of choice was whiskey.

Landel and the fan then got into a physical altercation, where neither did much damage to the other. The police were called and Landel was arrested around 8:30 p.m. He was bailed out of jail later that night.

The promoters asked Landel to get his gear and get out of the hotel. Brian talked to a few people involved with the event that were embarrassed and worried that Landel dampened the experience for the fans. Apparently, Bob Caudle was furious with the way Landel conducted himself at the official appearance.

The other highlight was Jim Cornette getting into an altercation with the Insane Clown Posse. Cornette and Bobby Eaton were doing a question and answer session and someone asked about the ICP. Cornette cut a promo on the ICP the way only Jim can. A couple of guys got up and said they were with ICP and fireworks started. Apparently, Cornette turned into the voice of reason (!) in talking Eaton out of going into the crowd and cleaning the ICP reps' clocks. The ICP people were escorted from the building by security.

These two incidents aside... Buddy Landel being an extreme jackass aside... it really does sound like a great event. According to Brian, attendance was huge. Brian says a ton of personalities past and present were there. He says all the stars (with the one exception) were great to the fans and a pleasure to deal with.

Here is another first hand account.

I was there last night myself, just got back an hour ago.

Buddy was a bit obnoxious but it wasn't over the top. I might compare it to an overactive 10 year old. The funny thing is, he left the stage right as I was about to get his signature. So I just stood there for a second, puzzled, before following him off the stage.

Shortly thereafter, I met up with a few friends of mine who were at the bar talking with Buddy. In a sure sign of being drunk, Buddy pointed to a female nearby (unsure as to if it was the bartender or not) and said (and I quote) "Her ... ***** " while making fisting motions with his hand. He followed that up by finally giving me a signature, though he did put an "i" in his name (I can only assume it was an "i" since it was dotted).

I heard rumors of the altercation a few hours later and I believe it stemmed from Buddy hitting on the other guy's wife, though I can't confirm that.

As far as the ICP incident, that was gold. Cameras were running for both the Ole Q & A and the Cornette segment so I can only hope we'll see this end up on DVD. It came about due to two ICP "fans" who I actually spoke to earlier in the day (there was talk it was actually ICP but I don't know one way or the other) questioning Cornette as to why he hates the band.

Cornette immediatley put the two on the spot and asked if they were the band or just fans. When they responded they were just fans, Cornette said "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we've been had!" and he and Bobby immediately jumped to their feet to hold off the "fans" from getting closer to the stage (they were in the back of the room). Bobby hardly spoke at all during the entire segment but Cornette went off on a heated tirade that all in attendance ate up (saying ICP represents everything that is wrong in wrestling, using plenty of words that can't be repeated here, etc).

Eventually, Cornette had them kicked out of the room with one of the two men saying "But we've got VIP passes! We can be here if we want!" and Cornette replying with "Yeah, you've got passes to see me and all is right in the world!"

Tommy Young, who was running around fielding questions from the crowd for Cornette, apologized for allowing the two to have a forum.

The second of the two long ass quotes is from me. You might also check out the Mid-Atlantic thread I started in this folder when I got back from the convention - it's got more detail as to what went on as well as photos from the event.

Guest Miss Indy Queen

I just find it funny that at first Buddy CLAIMS that it wasn't true, which means I must have been drunk along with my friends when we saw the altercation outside. THEN he says he's sorry and needs help. This coming from a man of God. The minute he sat down for the signings, he was being loud and kept on singing but of course most people didn't think much of it. But thanks to him, Arn was bitchy to everyone after after that. Buddy Landel, what a piece of work. At least I got to meet him in the hall I guess before the fiasco took place.
