TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2004 Goldberg def. Steven Regal Is this the match that was part of the reason Regal left?
Bored 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 Yup that was the match. Recap of the match by G.P. Ryan off the RSPW message board: Steve Regal vs. Bill Goldberg Bobby Heenan has joined in on commentary. (I didn't notice when Spicolli left, but oh well.) Oh, man...this better be MUCHO stiff for the 2 or so minutes it lasts. "Goldberg" chant. Goldberg side headlock, Regal snapmares out of him and kicks him in the back twice, European uppercut. Goldberg seems to no-sell it as Regal goes to an armbar to side headlock. Goldberg reverses to an armbar. Regal reverses to a waistlock, Goldberg with a forward roll to an anklelock but Regal's too close to the ropes. (1:00) Lockup in the ropes, Regal smacks him in the face and lays in a pair of EU's and goes to an armbar, Goldberg reverses it and goes behind for a cradle, Regal's at the ropes. As they break, Regal slips in a couple of little kicks to the face. (2:00) "Goldberg" chant again. Regal with a side headlock takedown, Goldberg goes right to a headscissors, Regal powers out and goes to a front facelock. Goldberg escapes and knees him in the gut twice. Goldberg gets him to the corner and breaks, Regal pops him twice in the head and goes for an armbar, Goldberg goes to an armwhip. (3:00) Regal escapes by kicking him in the head and goes to an armbar, Goldberg goes to a belly-to-back suplex. Goldberg whip, Regal stops short and headbutts him in the gut and EU's him. Goldberg side headlock, into the ropes, Regal trips him up by the leg and he lays in EU's and knees to the head. (4:00) Goldberg seemed to blow a move taking him down, and takes him down with a shoulderblock. Regal blocks a kick in the corner and turns them around, and lays in thrusts and a headbutt. Goldberg stops a corner whip and delivers one and spear tackles him for a pop, and the Jackhammer follows. If not his longest effort to date, no doubt it's right up there. All in all, it wasn't really that bad, at least it wasn't a straight-up squash, but still not that great either. WINNER: Bill Goldberg, at 5:02 *1/
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 Arn Anderson beat Hulk Hogan???
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 And why did Regal leave? It's not like he was the only one who had to have shitty matches with Goldberg.
Bored 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 He didn't leave, he was fired. This was when Goldberg's push was really picking up steam and pretty much all of his matches were two minute squashes. Regal didn't want to be squashed so he stretched Goldberg out in the match and made him look bad. Arn Anderson beat Hulk Hogan??? Recap by John Petrie. HULK HOGAN vs. ARN ANDERSON (w/ Woman) Curiously enough, this match was mildly entertaining. Hogan dipped into his usual dirty tricks book: Raking of the back, eye gouges, choking with tape, etc. Someone in the crowd held up a "Bischoff is Satan" sign. Bischoff apologizes for insinuating that the WWF somehow pulled the plug on the power on last week's show, saying it was a joke and not a serious allegation. Arn plays human pinball, being worked over pillar-to-post 'til Flair and Liz come out. Hulk does an even poorer version of the Fargo strut, thus angering Flair (who obviously thinks his strut and his alone should be that bad.) Hogan slips Arn into a Figure Four (which drives Flair berzerk.) Flair charges in, but is grabbed by Hogan and small packaged (while maintaining the Figure Four on Arn.) Fortunately, the ref doesn't count the pin. Liz gives Flair her shoe and he in turn hands it to Arn. Woman throws powder in the eyes of Hogan, and is then nailed by the shoe. The ref, who'd have to have been at that exact moment suffering a stroke in order to miss all this, drops to the mat and counts to three. Arn with the win (yay.) McMichael notes there are enough heels at ringside to start a shoe store. Savage eventually shows up to make the save.
