From Bruce Lee to Jackie Chan to Sammo Hung to Jet Li I've seen my share of great hand-to-hand combat on screen, but this movie from Thailand takes the cake. This features the most incredible fight sequences I've ever seen, and that's without any use of wire-fu or CG effects. This is technique and brutality at its finest. And there's one of the greatest chase scenes ever in it as a bonus! If you are remotely interested in martial arts and thought that movies like Fist of Legend or Game of Death featured great fights, get all this and be blown away! I don't know if or when it'll be released on DVD in the USA, but the movie is available at dvdasian.com and is getting theatrical releases in some western countries (april 7 in France, for example). Some quotes from the Nixflix review: "When I say that "Ong-bak" offers up some of the most daring, bone-crunching fights I've witnessed since I became aware of this thing called "filmmaking", I do not exaggerate. There are enough elaborate stunts and power moves in "Ong-bak" to put every Hong Kong action movie I've seen in the last 10 years to shame." In the 16 year history of the program, no movie ever got a standing ovation... until last night. This movie is everything a Hollywood critic would detest: action for action's sake. The story is bland, the acting non-existent. But the first shot of the film is 40 men fighting, leaping, flipping throughout a giant tree... this isn't Crouching Tiger - there are no wires. This film grabs your heart beat from minute one and does not let it drop below 140 beats per minute until it ends. Every time you think you have seen everything these guys can do they shock you again. There is a chase scene about 1/3 of the way into the film that may be the greatest thing ever captured on film. The real impact in this age of CGI and wire teams is that every move, jump and flip is REAL - done BY THE ACTOR. If the Matrix made you go "Cooool" - this film will make you go "OMIGOD OMIGOD OMIGOD!!!!!!" You can't not love it. Check for other user comments. Well it is hitting the film festival circuit, I can only hope somebody like Miramax or Lion's Gate will bring it to the USA. Maybe they should rename it OMG-Muay Thai Warrior.
