He's definately the most refreshing commentator to come onto the scene in a long time.  Imagine, a commentator who actually pays attention to and calls a mid-card match, rather than shilling the main event and/or PPV, what a concept.  They've got to find someone who can gel with his style.  He speaks far too intelligently to be paired with an idiotic stooge.

Absolutely.

 

One of the many reasons I'm a Raven fan is the fact that he is more intelligent sounding (and intelligent) people in wrestling, and the juxtaposition of external image and internal character is probably what has made him so interesting and intruiging over the years.

 

Among other things.

 

Personally, I'd like to see Raven and Al Snow as the commentary team.  Al too is another very intelligent guy, and if you caught his run on Heat as a broadcaster last year (in between Tough Enoughs) you'll know he can definitely liven up the broadcast, in that old-school way of being funny (the Heenan mode) of ripping on the face broadcaster without losing all attention to the match.

 

Especially since it's obvious even to me the ever-hopeful now that neither one is ever going to get their shot in the ring (and the time has probably passed for both of them), which is unfortunate.  But hey, they still have something to contribute, and its a lot more than any of the broadcasters are bringing right now.

There is a Basic Formula to a Good Commentator for wrestling

 

Look at who was  Really good in Wrestling as commentators

 

Gorilla Monsoon

 

Jesse Ventura

 

Bobby Heenan

 

Now Raven

 

with the exception of Tazz who's mic work was done primarly through cursing in ECW to have much experience keeping it clean

 

All the Good Commentators were past wrestlers. People who was in the ring knows what happens and how it feels, having coach or cole badmouthing their fellow commentators whom are past wrestlers is a silly thing to do.  I think having past wrestlers in commentator booth gives you not only insight to wrestling moves, you get less shilling for Main events and in actuality wrestlers turned Commentators show vast amount of respect for the men in the ring. try to count how many times in a given wrestlemania between 1-6 did Monsoon or Ventura flat out ignore the action just to talk about the Main Event.  probably total wouldn't make up one set of fingers on a hand.
