IllustriousOne 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 There is a new AIM virus, that is sending the following to chat windows: (DON'T CLICK THE LINK) "check this out: http://www.wgutv.com/osama_capture.php?JVFD" To remove the virus, if you downloaded it... (Jump to step 3 if you are on 98 or ME) 1) First, download the REMOVAL TOOL (please right click and choose "save target as" and save on your desktop to avoid accidentally opening the file in your browser instead of running it) 2) If you are running windows XP (Home or Pro) simply double click the file you just saved called "BlmiRemoval" and you are done. For all other versions of windows, go to the next step. 3)Press CTRL ALT DEL (CTRL SHIFT ESC if you are on Windows 2000) to open the "task manager" in windows. 4) Look for a process called "blengine", "ChannelUp" (if you are on 2000, it will be under the processes tab, and will be called blengine.exe or ChannelUp.exe) 5) Select any of the files listed above if you have them, and then click "end task" on the task manager. This will close down the virus file from running. 6) Finally, now run the file BlmiRemoval that you downloaded in step one. 7) If you need to manually delete the files, go to C:\Program Files\Common Files and delete the entire directory called "PSD Tools" (you may be unable to delete some files, just be sure to delete at least blengine.exe and channelup.exe, and you can attempt to delete the remaining files after you restart your computer). Downhome 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Someone sent that to me today, but I didn't get anything from it. What does the virus do to you exactly?
IllustriousOne 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 I'm not entirely sure at this point. It could be anything from advanced spyware to just spamming. Either way, it's pretty lame. EDIT: That said, I just received a link to info about it... http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,114745,00.asp

Mole 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 I clicked on the buddyprofile virus once, but I learned from my mistake. Or you could just do a system restore, it is a lot easier.
