EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Try Byung Hyun "A career K rate of over one an inning and only 25" Kim. Name the last time Kim got a significant out in Yankee Stadium. Fun fact #1: Kim has never given up an earned run in Yankee Stadium in the regular season. Fun fact #2: A bad postseason outing at the age of 22 is not indicitive of a player's entire career. What he's done the last three years is a better indicator than mystique and aura.

Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 via Rotoworld According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Cubs and Greg Maddux are set to finalize a contract on Wednesday. Maddux will probably get a two-year deal worth between $14 million and $15 million. His addition to the rotation would push Juan Cruz back into middle relief. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 No use in Maddux making the jump to the AL this late in his career. Ok did someone make up the Maddux to the Yankees story? First Brian Cashman said they hadn't had talks with Maddux, and than Steinbrenner said the same thing today.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 ::quietly adds "Cubs" to the list of teams I want the Yankees to humiliate in the world series.:: The list already included the Astros. So my new plan is for the Cubs and Astros to face the Yankees in a WM X World Series. type scenario. And since my plans are impossibl anyway, throw the RedSox in there. Don't mind me, I'm babbling. Guest Wildbomb 4:20 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Mr. Kim pitched against the dreaded Yankees 7 times last year, all in relief. He had a 5.14 ERA. Picked up a win, two losses. One save. Over those seven innings: nine hits five runs (four earned) one homer two HBP two walks 6 K's Decent at best. Not horrible, but not gleaming either. He never had a 1-2-3 inning against them. Then again: he never started against them. Anyways...he's not proven to be one or the other against the Yankees in the regular season, because he has never been used in such a role. I'd wager good money that Scott Boras was the one who leaked the "rumor" that the Yankees were interested. Probably was able to get that third year out of the Cubs because of that rumor. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Florida and Arizona both beat the Yanks in the World Series and the Yanks need revenge for the losses. Arizona becoming a punchline is more than enough for me. And if the Yankees crush the Marlins during the regular season, they will have fulfilled their duty. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Florida and Arizona both beat the Yanks in the World Series and the Yanks need revenge for the losses. Arizona becoming a punchline is more than enough for me. Actually by trading Curt Schilling and Junior Spivey they were able to get young pitching and Richie Sexson while cutting payroll. They might be in contention for the West this year or at least for the Wild Card.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Well, then they might be able to get in line then. Everyone has to pay the piper.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 18, 2004 They also have some really good young bullpen arms, so if Matt Mantai starts off strong closing and a team needs a closer they can go and trade him for something they need. Like an extra starter or something.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Anyway, back to the important teams, what the hell are the Yankees gonna do for a fifth starter when kevin Brown dies?

The third year is a club option that can be dropped if Maddux doesn't pitch a specified number of innings in 2005.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 They could always bring back....EL DUQUE! Bah, the Yankees could probably swing a trade for Vidro and Livan Hernandez from Montreal (not El Duque but close). Fixes their 2B problem and gives em a pitcher. God knows Bud doesn't care about how much the Yankees spend, but Im sure he would love the Expos cutting spending by however much that would be.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 They could always bring back....EL DUQUE! Why would they do that? We kept him for the entire length of his usefullness.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 18, 2004 actually El Duque is a free agent. They could sign him to a minor league deal
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 But why do such a thing?
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Its an insurance policy that doesn't cost much of anything. Anyways, if the Red Sox do anything more I hope the most major thing would be signing Travis Lee to be their Left handed hitting bat off the bench and a defensive replacement at first in the later innings. Also sign Pedro Astacio, Mike Lincoln, and Russel Branyan to minor league deals for depth purposes.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted February 18, 2004 They could always bring back....EL DUQUE! Why would they do that? We kept him for the entire length of his usefullness. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Its an insurance policy that doesn't cost much of anything. But is it really an insurance policy? Towards the end of his yankee run, he was at best, a question mark. Leaning closer to washed up.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 18, 2004 you'd be paying him the veteran minimum though. So ya, its a good insurance policy. Say I own a baseball team and have a question mark here and there in my rotation, where they are question marks due to health. My farm system is starting to shit the bed so I really don't want to trade what I have left for somebody I may never use who has to be on the ML Roster. There's this guy who's been with the team before but has had health problems himself who's a FA. Well I can sign him to a minor league deal, have him pitch once every 7 or 8 days in Triple A and cost my farm system nothing. If worse comes to worse I may still have to make a deal later on, but if it pans out then it costs me nothing more than the league minimum salary and no prospects at all.
