Guest The Ohtani of Time Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I recently purchased Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, I played the first Tenchu a lot and liked it, but this one made a lot of improvements that really enhanced the game. For those who don't know, Tenchu is a stealth action game along the lines of Metal Gear, except that you are a ninja in feudal Japan. So if you liked Metal Gear, give this one a shot, there are a lot of similarities between the two, but also enough differences that keep it from being a essentially the same game. Not sure if this is true or not but i believe that the first Tenchu was out before Metal Gear Solid. Anyways, its a good game, give it a try.
Dr. Zoidberg 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Dude, I fuckin love Tenchu. I loved the first one, hated the second one, loved Wrath of Heaven. It is a DEFINITE buy first. No renting be needed, cuz the late fees will pile the hell up.
Chunk 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I rented the second one (Stealth Assasins?) and thought it was ok. Not really that brilliant, ...... but OK!
Guest EQ Report post Posted February 18, 2004 I loved the first Tenchu. I never really played the second one. I haven't played the newest one, but it looks really cool
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 The A.I. in WoH is about on par with Metal Gear Solid--that is, really stupid. Not that I'm complaining, but it makes more sense here. I rented WoH...it's not really my thing, but I can objectively call it a good game. It's just not the type of game that strikes my fancy.
Anya 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 I like the series quite a bit. Not enough to get the Xbox upgrade to 3 though. The girl ninja, Ayame, is cool.
BlackFlagg 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 FYI for XBox owners the demo disc with the latest issue of XBox magazine has a playable demo of the new Tenchu game
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2004 I just rented Wrath of Heaven on PS2. Holy crap where have I been? This game is aaaamazing!!
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 19, 2004 I played Tenchu on the Xbox game disc demo this month, and that game is absolutely fucking terrible. Especially when you have Ninja Gaiden on the same disc.

Haven't tried that yet. I'm really diggin' Wrath of Heaven on PS2, though. The stealth kills are fucking great!!
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 20, 2004 From what I remember of the game (I had broken the demo disc after finally achieving Master Ninja on NG (it's all about the nunchuck-type sharp metal thingies), and getting tired of playing Pete Sampras vs. random dude in Top Spin) just the first level alone was a pain in the ass. It's as if it tries to be a Splinter Cell set in a ninja-style setting, but it totally lacks any kind of polish whatsoever. But, that's why I always rent the full version instead of playing demo games, since it probably wasn't complete, because it definitely didn't feel or look it. It almost looked like a PS1 game, if not as bad as a PS2 game (I'm spoiled with my beautiful Xbox renderings....and this was just real shit, trust me) the controls were terrible... I mean the first guy I fought almost killed me...and keep in mind I just beat Ninja Gaiden on Master F'n Ninja, these controls were atrocious, reaction time was poor... I jsut got a real bad impression of it. The worst part about it was I really excited to play it after how cool the whole premise of it was. Major letdown for me, anyways... AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2004 VX: Can't say I've played that demo, but I didn't have any of those gripes about Wrath of Heaven. The only flaw I encountered with Wrath of Heaven--from what I've played--is that the regular enemies are really stupid.
Anya 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2004 I beat WOH as all 3 characters. Don't know about the Xbox port, but I never had any control problems. The game is unpolished though. The whole series is.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 20, 2004 The game is unpolished though. The whole series is. And that's my main pet peeve about it. It needs polish.....

The first games came out closely enough to be reviewed in the same issue of PSM so it doesn't matter. Besides, it's not like Metal Gear Solid was the first game of that series either. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 Trivia: "Tenchu" means "Heaven." So, one of the games is called Heaven: Wrath of Heaven, translated. Kinda like Manos.
