Mole 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Yes, I know there is a Firefly thread. However, I decided to put this in a new thread because I can. Universal Hints Firefly Movie is a Go Source: Andrew Monday, February 23, 2004 The Cinescape, Fireflyfans and Fireflymovie websites all have discovered signs of life in a Firefly movie at Universal Pictures which Joss Whedon has already written the script for. The studio has quietly added ’Serenity’ to the Coming Soon section on the its official website, which is the working title for the film and the name of the crew’s vessel. The studio has also already registered the Serenitymovie.com domain name. The first meeting on the film apparently took place the second week of February and they are targeting a May production start for the big screen version
Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted February 24, 2004 I'm all for reviving the tv show, since it had such a big cult fanbase. But can they really make a movie out of this? The show only ran for less than a season. Not only is the story pretty rough, but who would remember it?
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 ^ i think the idea is to start anew sort of. As if it was a new pilot or springboard. The fact that series only ran for a small amount (what, 12 episodes) is actually a benefit (as opposed to a full season or two or three seasons), since not all that much happened in any real overarching plot sense. Re-introduce the characters and the situations, as if it was simply a new standalone movie. At least I hope so, that's the ONLY way to make something like this work. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 Though there were only 15 episodes (11 aired), they still established a _ton_ of stuff in those episodes that people want to see some resolution to. Joss said that he does resolve a lot of the issues set up in Firefly for the fans of the show, but doesn't want to completely alienate the new viewer (I trust Joss with this, since he did make Firefly the best show ever - I stand by that) .The only problem is that they don't have any big name actors who can carry a picture (Nathan Fillion, despite being GOD, doesn't have the star power... yet) and draw in a big crowd. However, Firefly does have its hardcore fans who will see the movie again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again. I know I plan to, considering I still watch the DVD more than I watch anything else on TV.
Guest TonyJaymzV1 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 Think of it this way: Everyone who bought the dvd set(which is a good number) goes see the movie. Of course, they bring 1-2 people along. Then theres the sci fi fans that will go see it and finally the casual fans who are interested in the badass trailer(come on, its Joss) That equals out to a pretty good opening weekend numbers, and if they open up during a slow period, like mid january, it'll place around 4 or 5 on the toip ten. Then once word of mouth hits(probably all due to RRR) in the following weeks, while it won't have great legs, it'll probably stay in the top ten for a month. Then you come out with the dvd set, at 20 bucks a pop, and get money from that. So all in all, this movie has a good chance of earning some damn good money, and atleast making Joss and Nathan into players in hollywood
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 Firefly is like an infection, the box set will spread and by the time that movie comes out there will be at least double the amount of fans there were back in 02.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 24, 2004 All they have to do is make a good trailer that doesn't rely on star power to impress people and build up some hype to get the casual audience. Of course it has the problem of combining backstory with giving viewers of the show resolution, but that shouldn't be too hard to iron out for professional script writers.
