STARRCADE PREVIEW

It all started with a dream. Chad Dupree, a lifetime WCW fan, wanted to see the promotion he followed faithfully until its untimely demise in 2001 when it was bought out by Vince McMahon.

Now, almost 4 years later, WCW has returned to prominence. Despite the ups and downs involved with getting the promotion started again, WCW has survived and indeed has even thrived. As such, WCW is proud to bring back the grand-daddy of ALL pay-per-views, STARRCADE!

Starrcade will present the following matches for your viewing pleasure:

MAIN EVENT – WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

Raven has survived night after night to hold on to the World title despite all the odds. His most prominent challengers to date have been Sting and Keiji Mutoh, two men who are no strangers to being at the top of the mountain, but at Starrcade he’ll have a new kind of challenge when he faces Jerry Lynn. Lynn, who became the number one contender after winning a battle royal, is a 2-time United States champion. When these two champions collide there will only be one winner: the fans!

DUSTIN RHODES VS. KEVIN NASH

It began one week when Sting was being stalked by someone in the shadows. Next week, Dustin Rhodes was being stalked but we wouldn’t have to wait long to find out who the stalker was because Kevin Nash revealed himself after a match in which Rhodes had just taken on Vader and was viciously powerbombed to the canvas. Since then, the two men have struck back at each other in various ways, but at Starrcade they’ll face off in the ring for the first time in a one-on-one match since Nash perpetrated the attack.

AJ STYLES VS. LA PARKA

La Parka is hanging up his wrestling boots at the end of the year, but before he does, he must defend his legacy against the attack of AJ Styles! Styles, tired of being looked over since losing the United States title, has challenged La Parka to take him on at Starrcade. Will La Parka go out on a winning note or will AJ Styles show the world just why he’s considered a blue chipper in the world of pro wrestling? Tune in to find out!

BROTHER VS. BROTHER

Ken Shamrock. Frank Shamrock. Both men have attained a great deal of fame in the world of mixed martial arts, but apparently Ken’s greater fame was damaging to his brother’s pride because we saw Frank’s manager, Alicia, lure Ken into a trap and then witnessed Frank lay his own brother out. At Starrcade, they’ll step into the ring to face each other for the first time anywhere in a match where only submissions will count. The question is not who will win this match, but rather… who will survive?

FATAL FOUR-WAY

Although Jerry Lynn is challenging for the World title at Starrcade, he still has his United States Championship to consider. As such, four men will face off to see who can earn the right to challenge Lynn for the title on the first Nitro after Starrcade. The competitors in the match will be: Nick Dinsmore, Kanyon, Nova, and Vampiro!

WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

After defeating the highly-successful Maximum Overdrive to retain the coveted World Tag Team Championship, Diamond and Swinger have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the tag team division. Their next challenge will come from the young and exciting team of Johnny Kashmere and Trent Acid, better known as The Backseat Boyz! Which team’s move will prove to be more effective: Diamond and Swinger’s Problem Solver or the Backseat Boyz’ T-Gimmick? We’ll find out soon!

GLENN GILBERTI VS. SABU

Glenn Gilberti has earned the wrath of the most suicidal, homicidal, and genocidal competitor in the history of professional wrestling. Week after week, the cowardly Gilberti has attacked Sabu from behind or has run off whenever he’s seen Sabu in his vicinity. There will be no more running on December 19th, however, because Gilberti and Sabu will meet inside the squared circle in a match where falls will count anywhere in the building!

CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

Cruiserweight phenomenon, B-Boy, defeated Paul London to win the Cruiserweight title, but Tom Carter has set his eyes on that same prize. These two men will put on what could be a show stopper when B-Boy defends his title against the Master of the Stretch Plum!

WCW BUYS NWA: FLORIDA

Chad Dupree, on behalf of World Championship Wrestling, announced today that he had acquired the NWA: Florida territory and all its assets. Right now, WCW only intends to keep Danny Doring and Jerelle Clark under contract and will release the rest of NWA: Florida's roster to do as they wish. All of NWA: Florida's titles will be dissolved, save one: the NWA Southern Heavyweight Championship. However, since WCW is not a member of the NWA, the title will be renamed at a later time. It is also possible that the Southern Championship will be dissolved if WCW cannot justify keeping it around, but we'll have more word on that later.
