Handheld tapes

Recommended Posts

How is the quality on the handheld tapes you can buy around the web of different house shows and stuff, with footage you'd never seen anywhere else? Does it vary widely?

VQ can range from Good to COMPLETELY UNWATCHABLE. Depends on the camera the person used, and how well they do it.

Be careful as you can get really poor 3rd & 4th gen tapes like my copy of the bret/owen iron match was. However most of the other house show matches i have from handhelds are pretty good quality considering the generation of the tapes. Just dont expect to much, as handhelds arent the best of quality in the first place, im just very used to watching poor quality so it doesnt bother me as much as it would some people.

I have a copy of the 5/19/96 MSG show whee The Kliq breaks Kayfab, it's obvious that it it a copy of a copy of a copy x100, but it's still waqtchable for the most part.

Three Simple Words

EXPECT. THE. WORST.

I was pleasently surprised when my MSG Handheld footage from 1-17-94 came with fairly good quality. A friend of a friend said its barely watchable, so I'm assuming he has a 1003rd generation copy, as this was really good looking with minimal tracking, if any.

Just expect really bad quality, then you might end up supprised when you get it like i was with the flair/bret iron man match, i heard it was awfull quality, and the bret/owen iron man was unwatchable so i expected the same, but i was acctually quite pleasently supprised.

When possible, try to get handhelds from Jeff Lynch. They're usually masters or 1st gens.
