King of Fighters 2002 set for X-box

Recommended Posts

Once again, fuck SCEA and their anti-2D stance.

The DC version of 2K2 is on it's way for me...and I have no X-Box. Makes me think just how wise a move it is to go with Microsoft. It's cool they don't have the same kind of policy, but they're dead last right now and figure letting another Japanese developer (MS has been fighting from the very beginning to win over the xenophobic Japanese by getting developers on their side) can only help. It makes me wonder why they haven't gone with Gamecube, though. Gamecube is currently #2 I believe (well, #3 after Nintendo's own GBA) in regards to user base I believe. The system sure as hell can do the games. Why not?

Well, King of Fighters isn't a good fit for the GC pad, but more workable than an SF game. Metal Slug would fit on it perfectly. Plus, with Metal Slug Advance on the way, they could possibly fit in connectivity.

Thing with X-box--doesn't seem like an "old school" player's system--the audience that would be mainly interested in it. I know 2D fighters don't appeal to everyone, but Metal Slug is just too damn fun...

I doubt you'll see it. I don't think SNK is too proud of that game, because it looks pretty bad today and there's almost no combo system. They haven't released it any form other than the Neo and Neo CD ports. They also left it off the King of Fighters Best Collection (put 95, 96, 97 on it).

Kof is a mixed bag really. The ones that I play and hence prefer gameplay wise:

98

2k1

97

2k3 (still debating, doesnt seem too broken besides Dou lon).

And if you must own a pre 97 game get 96. Still not a great game but you could do alot worse with 94 and 95.

Which system is the KOF Best Collection available on? Sounds quite interesting.

I want the old ones just to own them. Just for collections sake. I have like every major fighting game ever except a bunch of SNK stuff. They need to put the older games on mainstream consoles. I'm too lazy to get a AES or MVS.

Your mileage may vary. I really like 2000, dislike 2001. I like 97, but the graphics/sound are a bit of a letdown, because the backgrounds and music in 95 smoke it, IMO. I also liked 98 (well, the DC version called Dream Match '99), but mainly for all the characters, the visuals--not so much the gameplay, which doesn't seem to be too much new or different.

If you're not picky about which games you want, there's a KoF Best Collection or two up on Ebay now and then. However, if you just want one or two of the games, buying them separately is cheaper. Also, yeah, as far as gameplay goes the newer games mostly are superior.

I know price doesn't seem to be an object, but probably your best bet is to go with the Neo CDs. Those seem to be easier to find and cheaper, too. You might be able to net a system and a bunch of games all together.

I saw a system with about 30 games on Ebay once...but it was 700 bucks and the shipping was so high I think I blacked out from reading it.

2K1 is a very rich gameplay wise, but its crippled by its horrible visuals. 2k on the other hand is the oposite.

I'm a mark for the kick-ass strikers, so sue me. :P Plus, I like Armor Mode as opposed to pissing around with supers if I just want no-frills ass-kicking.

2000 isn't a bad game, but it isn't as deep as 2001. 2001 has a lot of new techniques like guard cancels and guard breaking that 2000 doesn't. However, it does look like ass, and the new art doesn't really suck any less than the original art they replaced.

I don't want a Neo or Neo CD because eventually I'll get a MVS cabinet.

I got a Jaguar today. I bought it so I could play Kasumi Ninja, Fight for Life and Ultra Vortek!

*has no wise-ass remark to respond to that.*

Those are 3 cool games. At least in the sense that they'll be funny to mess around with.

Ultra Vortek and Kasumi Ninja are MK klones and Fight for Life looks like one of the worst 3D fighters ever. I can't wait.

I really want to try Shadow: War of Succession for 3DO too.

You collect extremely bad games...I guess the B-movie lover in me kinda appreciates that.

Wasn't the sole reason that anyone cared about Kasumi Ninja was...the Scottish dude's "lift me kilt and shoot a fireball" special?

Also, wasn't the title of the other game Ultra VorteX? Or did the creators think they couldn't bear to have the title not contain a "K," and they would go a step further by not only spelling the title wrong, but spelling it so that it doesn't even sound correct?

Yes, Kasumi Ninja is the kilt fireball game. Angus McGreggor is the name of the guy.

It is Vortek with a K.

I am running out of bad fighting games to buy. Good fighting games at that. Besides SNK stuff I don't know what else to get.

What about DBZ/Sailor Moon fighting games? Do you have Double Dragon V? That's on Jag as well, I think.

Battle Monsters?

Slaughter Sport (genesis)?

The TMNT fighters? (range from good to bad)

Ballz? (refrains from bad joke)

Batman Forever? (It has a bad fighting game in it as a bonus)

VF2 (Genesis)?

I'm not into imports. I don't have the American DBZ games and don't really want them.

I've played the Dreamcast version. Gameplay is good, although it's hard to tell just what is new or different gameplay-wise when you're playing a game in Japanese and you can't really use any instructions to tell you.

Also, just like 2001, the game still looks like ass. The Challenge mode is a good idea, though, and adds lots of replay to the game.

However, making us play it to unlock characters we've been able to play as from the outset in the past = BOOO!!

118. Clayfighter(SNES)

119. Clayfighter 2: Judgment Clay(SNES)

120. Clayfighter 63 1/3(N64)

Um--you don't have the Genesis version of Clayfighters or Clayfighters: TE!

For those who haven't played 2k2 and want to know whether or not to give it a shot...

Click here. and read Hurricane Higashi's review of it. Yeah, it's for the arcade version, but pretty much everything holds true. I don't think I could find a more accurate review of it if I tried. It pretty much hits everything on the mark.

Having played it, I think that probably Dream Match 99/KOF 98 is the better deal, though.
