Town Attempts To Secede From Vermont

From Yahoo news:

Killington Votes On Whether To Join New Hampshire

The town of Killington is looking to divorce its state, Vermont.

NewsCenter 5's Sonya Pfeiffer reported that in a groundbreaking voice vote Tuesday, residents of the ski resort community approved a petition to secede from Vermont and become a part of neighboring New Hampshire.

Hoisting "Don't Tread On Me" flags, secession activists rallied enough votes at a town hall meeting Tuesday to approve a petition to present to New Hampshire's governor. The petition will ask the Granite State to accept Killington as a municipality. New Hampshire originally chartered the town in 1761.

At the heart of the upset is the state of Vermont's new system of financing education. Property taxes have dramatically increased in some communities, including Killington.

"When you believe passionately that you have been treated unfairly it is incumbent upon you, upon us, to do what is right," said secession supporter Robert Chernin.

But not every voter at the town hall meeting urged divorce.

"My statement is simple. I was born a Vermonter and I hope to always be a Vermonter," said Jody Thomas.

Town officials are now drafting the petition to New Hampshire, the next chapter in what could be a long run for secession.

Ultimately the voice vote could prove to be just a symbolic one since legislators in both Vermont and New Hampshire will have to approve the secession measure.

I have to say if I were living in the People's Socialist Republic of Vermont I'd do anything to be out of their thumb without actually having to move.

As a New Hampshire resident, I know a lot of people are talking about the possibility of the entire state of Vermont becoming part of New Hampshire. I don't know how likely this is, but it's something to think about.

Man, and the Dems flirted with putting the GOVERNOR of that state up as their Presidential nominee?

Scary.

I think the folks at Mystery Science Theater said it best:

"Vermont: The other, smaller Wisconson."

How in the world did that show never win an Emmy for Best Writing?

...Jesus, people couldn't wait to give "Larry Sanders" fellatio aplenty, but "MST" got so little love.

I think the same reason Buffy has never seen much as anything as far as awards go.

Considereing they gave him the primary when he wasn't even on the ballot, I would say the chances of the whole state joining New Hampshire is pretty slim.

He was on the ballot.

...

Do you just make shit up half the time?

CNN said he wasn't so blame them.

They still voted for a guy who dropped out of the race two weeks ago and was the biggest failure in the history of the Democratic Party.

Mondale at least managed to get the nomination. He didn't bring in more money than Clinton then not win a single primary until after he dropped out.

EDIT: And before Tyler blasts me, I mean biggest failure as a presidential candidate. Nothing personal, or on his career prior to this campaign. But there is no arguing that his campaign was nothing short of a monumental disaster.

He raised money and have attention from the media for a few weeks. Dean got attention for being different, wasn't really the leader. Polls back then showed that most dems didn't even know who was running. One name they cought doesn't mean major front runner. Hell there were alot of stories on Shaprton around here, doesn't mean he is a major disaster. Sharpton was even on SNL. In fact, this is working well for Sharpton's plan. Stick around long enough to get atleast speaking time at the DNC.
