EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Bruckheimer To Bring Prince Of Persia To Big Screen Classic video game getting turned into big movie... Jerry Bruckheimer is close to landing the movie rights to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. He plans to produce the big screen version of the popular game. Jordan Mechner is set to write the script while John August will executive produce. The video game is about "a young adventurous prince who uncovers a dangerous artifact in a remote mountain kingdom and with the help of an enemy princess, must stop a despot from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy all mankind." teke184 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Christ... I don't think anyone in Hollywood actually knows that the original Prince of Persia game was actually based on the old movie "The Thief of Baghdad." This is, in effect, another remake that doesn't need to be made, although the Prince of Persia name DOES actually give a reason to doing it, unlike such recent studio brainfarts as remaking Charade (as The Truth About Charlie) and Rollerball. It still doesn't mean it's a good idea but it means there will be a minimum audience who will show up because of the name.
spiny norman 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 I really liked the old video game of 1989 at the time, but since have looked back on it and only found it enjoyable through its sheer corny nostalgic value. That said, I find the idea of a movie of it to be rather terrible. From memory, the story of Prince Of Persia was that a princess was captured, had a poison which would kill her in an hour or something and you went level to level, all the while fighting guards trying to stop you from rescuing her. Please somebody, correct me if I missed anything else in the plot of the game (I haven't played it in years) but I don't remember much more than that. Plus Jerry Bruckheimer usually doesn't equate to good films, a few films withstanding (ie. Flashdance). What will come next? Pac-Man: The Movie?
