Matt Young 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 I don't have a powerful PC for gaming and I am also stuck with a shitty 56k connection. As a result, I don't play many PC games. This creates a problem because every time I get online, my console collection is staring at me, begging to be played. I need some decent games I can play while browsing the web. Any type of game will do, but what I'm really looking for are puzzle games, shooters (as in Gradius/Galaga/R-Type style, not FPS), and my favorite, 2D side scrolling beat-em-up games. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Renegade 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 The only way to play beatemups online would be to use kaillera, but you have a 56k so it will lag like a total bitch.

Guest Coffey Report post Posted March 6, 2004 Get MAME. Then you can knock yourself out with side-scrolling beat-em-ups like Aliens Vs. Predator, The Punisher, Knights of the Round, Teenage Mutant Turtles 2, etc. You also open the door for a lot of fighting games. The Street Fighter series, The Darkstalker series, the majority of the "tag" Capcom games. Hell, you can even get the Neo-Geo part of MAME so that you can play games like Metal Slug, Fatal Fury & Samurai Showdown. Then of course you could always just bust out the old favorites like Final Fight, Bad Dudes or Wrestlefest. If some how none of that floats your boat, there are a ton of sports games too. NBA Hangtime/Showtime/Jam for example. 2 on 2 Open Challenge is fantastic as well. No better way to go. I only have a GeForce 2 & 128 RAM, so if I can run a lot of the above listed games, you should be able too. I play X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Puzzle Fighter 2 & Wrestlefest all the time. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2004 MAME's definitely something I've considered. I have GBA, NES, SNES, and Genesis emulators on my PC and Dreamcast, but I'm still missing out on a lot of arcade games. The one I want to play the most is quite possibly my all time favorite arcade game, the old school X-Men game from 1992. Once I find a job, my main goal (after renting an apartment) is to purchase an arcade cabinet from ArcadeWerx.com. It's a stylish cabinet which includes 15 old Capcom games (including Street Fighter) and it can play all kinds of MAME games, which gives me an essentially unlimited library. Sure, I can play them on my PC, but it's not the same. Plus I've always wanted my own arcade machine. I know it's possible to build a cabinet myself, but I would probably fuck it up somehow, and even if it worked, it'd look like shit. Besides, it'd probably cost almost as much to build one as it would to buy one ($600). Anyway, thanks for the help so far. I'm going to read up on MAME and check out the Yahoo site now. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2004 Pop and Drop on Yahoo Games rules. It's just like Bust-A-Move, which is one of the greatest puzzle games ever. I love it. That's exactly what I was looking for when it comes to puzzle games.
