Do you burn or buy music?

Recommended Posts

Guest Addy

I personally burn. I used to buy, but then I found the joys of a CD Writer and WinMX. But it would be even better if I wasn't on a 56k Modem ;)

Also I got CD labelling software to make them look damn near real. If you didn't open the box and feel the actual CD label you would believe it was real.

So my theory is, what's the point of paying (especially when your only 15 like me and have no money :(), when you can get them for free?

Are you a slacker? Go work at Mcdonald's and earn the money to buy those cd's. You'll feel better about yourself i promise.

Personally i download as a preview until i can afford the album...some albums i just cant wait for so i gotta get at least a few songs from them until i get the real thing.

Well, I WOULD work for my money but you have to be 16 or 17 in the UK to do that.

But when it's legal i'm planning to work at a supermarket or something to get some cash together for various things including CD's.

But until then, i'm staying loyal to good ol' WinMX.

I buy CD's when I know that there are at least 3 or 4 good songs on it.  Sometimes I even download those songs after getting the CD just to stick them on a comp CD or something.  But for the most part, I burn my discs.

Actually I do Both I buy and pay someone to burn for cheaper prices usually from 5-10 dollars, personally I rather burn it beats the hell out of paying 16 bucks for cd that might 4 or 5 good songs out of 15 to 20 tracks total.

When I do burn or d/l a track and end up liking it I'll go buy it. I am into supporting my favorite artists.

Fine then...but at least use a decent system like audiogalaxy or something. WinMx is horrible...:)

If someone recommends someone but don't lend me their stuff I'll download it. If I like it I'll buy it.

Ever since the Spin Doctors CD that I got and 2 princes was the only decent song on it I've been wary of buying on the strength of one song and peer to peer has eliminated that.

But if you don't buy your favourite artists then they aren't going to put out new material.

Heh, I'm actually using both. I use WinMX because I believe that's faster. I used Audiogalaxy when I want "rarer" songs, like some of GWAR's stuff. Oh well, I could pray that Morpheus will get good again.

...Oh BTW there is exceptions! Like on Sunday im going to buy RATM - Evil Empire because it is only £6.99!

If one of my favorite artists like say, Kiss, releases a new album then I'll definitely buy it. If I get the feeling the album's gonna be good then I'll buy it too. If I only like one or two songs then I'll download them and burn them. Of course there's the possibility that eventually I'll like that particular band so I would buy the album even after I downloaded some of their songs. But I like having original CDs, so I won't stop buying no matter what.

Peace.

Just use kazaa

On that note, I have over 1200 cds. I used to buy cd's religiously. Now, with the beauty of file-sharing I can give the record companies a big healthy Fuck You!!!! No more wasted money on cd's with 2 good songs. Occasionally, I'll pick up a new cd (like Weezer) but there is no way in hell I'll ever go back to my old spending habits. Long live file sharing and die record companies die!

I buy every CD that I'm able to buy.  That means I burn CDs that are out of print or aren't available anywhere.

Well it's unlikely that i'll ever buy a CD again. I have no reason to buy CD's since i got rid of all my cds and cd players and switched over to nothing but mp3s.

Currently, I'm buying my CDs instead of burning them...

I used to routinely burn every CD I could by downloading them off of Morpheus, but now every single semi-decent P2P file sharing program is full of spyware, especially Kazaa which has ruined more than one person's computer in of itself.

I download individual songs to either check an artist out or to burn it onto a compilation CD. I only buy CDs that I've heard atleast a few songs from.

I used to burn, until I realized it was wrong.  OK, my computer died and my new laptop doesn't have a burner.

Seriously though, I don't really like burned CD's anymore, unless it's out of print or from a bootleg trade.  Granted, as an unemployed student, I'd be the prime person to burn but somewhere, my conscience is telling me it's not right.  Then my ears are telling me there's little worth keeping anyway.

I still download older singles and sample songs though.  I'm a strong believer in MP3s as a "sample before you buy" format.

The only way that burning cds instead of buying them is a bad thing is if it's underground bands, bands that are on small labels or local bands since they are the bands that need your money more.

I say screw all the big name or big label bands and the big record labels. They don't need your money because if they did CDs as a whole would be cheaper.

the only cds that I buy are local talent from the state of Texas, DJ mix tape cds, and used cds.  Why pay $16 when you can get the same thing for half price used.

I also burn cds with KaZaA because I can find songs that are not being sold at the local mall.

I use AG and its not the greatest. It seems to have a pretty small selection. Can anyone recomend something better?

I usually always burn my CDs... and if it's a new CD.. I make a copy, take it back to the store and get my money back.

Beautiful.

Some albums I buy, but for the most part, I burn baby burn like disco inferno. I bought a lot of CDs over the summer but haven't purchased one since because it seems like there is nothing coming out worth buying. I'm not paying $17 for what is essentially a single surrounded by crap. If these "artists" would step up the game and make a quality album, I think people would buy their stuff. That's just my opinion since that's what I do.

Ha! Every forum I have EVER posted at I include one or more pic of 'that chick' in my sig. And I can guarantee that at least once somebody will ask who she was. Well her name is Alizee, a 17 year old French pop singer. She did a very popular song named 'Moi...Lolita', which you have probably seen before.

...Um and she ISN'T a virgin for anybody that's interested!

Spyware are things installed on your computer that basically track every movement you make on the internet and send it out to their company or other company, for the most part so they can spam your e-mail box to death, among the other things.

Since you didn't know it existed, I fully recommend going to download.com and getting a program called Ad-Aware. If you've had your computer for along time you've likely got hundereds of them.

zeropaid this has the best selection of P2P programs.

Spyware goes by several names like gator.com or its that rotating banner that is on most P2P programs

Burn, burn and burn. You can't expect a student to buy his CDs.

I use KaZaa mostly (since Morpheus starting eating Gnutella's dick), and switch to WinMX when I want more obscure tracks.

Gnutella is a crappy file-sharing utility. I used it for all of ten minutes before deleting it forever. It's fiddly to use, has a terrible search facility and looks like a jar of smashed asses. Morpheus is doing business with Gnutella, and that's what it has transformed into. It sucks.

I don't know about Morpheus any more, but KaZaa is completely free.

And I just got AudioGalaxy. I got the track I'd been searching for on WinMX for a week in about 20 seconds.
