Guest Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 This topic evolved from the "I talked to a mark today...." thread when people were talking about Blackman and his credibility as a Hardcore Champion. Many liked him, many did not. So, let's start an interesting thread of the Top 5 WWF Hardcore Champions, should be fun. Mine are: 5) Road Dogg He was one of the originals that shaped the early WWF Hardcore division. He was well suited for the division, and had some memorable matches. Best Match: against Al Snow 12-28-98 (the night Foley won his 1st WWF Title). 4) Steve Blackman Blackman helped revive the lackluster Hardcore division in 2000. He never really got much credit for his style and ability in those matches. He seemed most over when he was involved in 'hardcore' matches. Best Match: against Shane McMahon at Summerslam 2000. 3) Rob Van Dam RVD got himself over as a Hardcore Champion (although it wasn't really too hard). People actually looked forward to Hardcore matches, involving RVD and brought some credibility back to the tainted Title in 2001. Best Match: against Jeff Hardy at InVasion. 2) Crash Crash brought some comedy to the division in 2000, and had several memorable moments in the process. Does everyone remember Gerald Brisco winning the Title from Crash at King of the Ring 2000, Crash was asleep! The 24/7 rule was Crash Holly's time to shine. Former 23(?) time Hardcore Champion. Best Match: any from the feud/series with Brisco (pure gold). 1) Raven Ok, I'm a HUGE Raven mark, so this pick is just by default. Although, Raven equals Hardcore. There isn't/wasn't much more the WWF could offer Raven other than the Hardcore division, but he did well with it regardless. Tons of 'plunder' and entertaining matches made Raven my pick as the best Hardcore Champion. Best Match: against Rhyno at Backlash 2001. Honorable Mentions - Al Snow - Rhyno - The Undertaker - Hardcore Holly
Guest Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5. Crash 4. Blackman 3. RVD 2. Raven 1. Rhyno My only problem with the Hardcore division is that they keep freaking changing from comedy act to actually hardcore wrestling. Pick one dammit.
Guest El Luchadore Magnifico Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5. Crash-Sure, most of his matches were comedy ones, but whenever he had the title, the divison was at least interesting. 4. Raven-Skilled Hardcore wrestler, even if none of his reigns were exactly memorable. 3. Rhyno-Had a great reign and some terrific Hardcore matches. Plus, he definitely looked the part. 2. RVD-Nobody managed to elevate the title like he did, thanks to a long reign and a good feud with UT. 1. Mankind-Hey, he was the first, and probably the most deserving of the title, even if I can't remember a thing about his reign.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 1. Raven (OK, so I'm a little biased ) 2. RVD (he made the belt seem important) 3. Rhyno (put on some damn good matches, including best hardcore match I've ever seen against Raven at Backlash 2K1) 4. Bubba Ray Dudley (looks like he might bring some credibility to the belt too, if they can decide whether or not they want a credible belt or a comedy belt) 5. ... No 5th choice because ever since I started watching, the only hardcore champions I've actually seen and cared about are already listed. Well, Hurricane for that little while, but that was more of a joke reign that lasted a few minutes (he lost it to Molly! I love Molly but... hitting him with a frying pan?) than anything else.
Guest Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 1: Mick Foley - It's his damn belt! 2: Raven - God, Scott's cool! 3: RVD - Already been stated 4: Blackman - Good matches, he could do all that cool shit 5: Crash - Funny bastard!
Guest Zero_Cool Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 1. Crash 2. RVD 3. Raven 4. Taz(z) (for the two minutes he held it ) 5. Blackman (It's party time~!)
Guest Some Guy Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5.Crash 4. Blackman 3. Rhyno 2. Raven 1. RVD
Guest SmarkySmark Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5. Hardcore Holly 4. Crash 3. Raven 2. Rhyno 1. RVD
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 Eh, I always hated the Hardcore Title.... Anyways, here we go: 1. Road Dogg- So sue me, I found his title reign highly entertaining. That match with Al Snow on RAW a few years back after he won it was pretty friggin good by my standards. 2. Steve Blackman- Although the guy is Mr. Charisma-less, he got over. Plus, I thought that lil stick takedown spot he always did was pretty funny. 3. Rhyno- He and Raven had the best Hardcore Title match I've ever seen and was easily the second best match at the Backlash 2001 PPV behind Angle/Benoit. 4. RVD- I hate the guy with a passion, but at least he had a lenghty reign with the belt instead of playing hot potato all the time with Jeff Hardy. 5. Raven- Pretty much the same as Rhyno, even though I hated the SHOPPING CART OF DEATH~!
Guest HartFan86 Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 This was tough, but here's my choices: 1. RVD (Made the title something during the Alliance angle, held onto it for a while, and I enjoyed his matches with Mr. Hardy) 2. Blackman (Great stuff with Shane, another credible champ holding the belt for a while, and had a good fan support during his run) 3. Raven (Entertaining matches, fun title reigns, and a credible/deserving champion) 4. Al Snow (In 1999, he really acted like this belt MEANT something by being the "Crown Prince of Hardcore"...had some fun matches with Holly, Bossman, and others.) 5. Crash (Ok, I hate the guy....but he held it the most, so he must be put in here.)
Guest Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5. Hardcore Holly 4. Steve Blackman 3. Raven 2. Crash 1. Rhyno
Guest alfdogg Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 These are not in order: RVD Crash Raven Blackman Rhyno
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 1. RVD 2. Rhyno 3. Raven 4. Blackman 5. Anyone thats not Crash.
Guest Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 1. Rob Van Dam (Hes lengthy rain Brought some credibility to the title. His matches with Jeff were 4 star matches and i am pretty sure im RVD's Number One Mark) 2. Rhyno (Rhyno's rain was pretty good having atleast 3 star matches and his match with Raven (at backlash i think) was great.) 3. Raven (Raven is hardcore) 4. Foley (Micks rain wasnt that good he just kicks ass) 5. Crash (He sucks but he held the title like 18 times and his matches were fairly entertaining)
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5. Mike Awesome - Winning it for WCW was cool...for like a minute. 4. Crash Holly - Funny guy (quoting George Costanza) 3. Hardcore Holly - Not sure why 2. RVD/Rhyno (tie) - Future of Hardcore 1.Mick Foley - His picture is in the dictionary next to the word Hardcore

I let it go the first couple of times, but a third was just uncalled for.
Guest crandamaniac Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 1. RVD- His style really brought an interesting aspect to the belt. 2. Road Dogg- Yes, i know he's not that good of a wrestler, but he was the first champion that i ever saw that ever got the belt over (b4 you flame, Mick's reign wasn't really that memorable) 3. Steve Blackman- Built as a complete bad ass, he brought a shred of credibility after the comedy reigns. 4. Crash- I loved the 24/7 rule, and crash's matches were hilarious. 5. Bossman/Al Snow (tie)- They put on some good matches with it (excluding the kennel from hell match). that match at that one PPV with the Road Dogg commentating was really good. Honorable Mention: -Godfather's Ho
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 5. mick foley 4. al snow 3. rhyno 2. rvd 1. road dogg (made hardcore famous in the wwf)
Guest cabbageboy Posted April 18, 2002 Report Posted April 18, 2002 Here we go: 5. Raven/Rhyno....It is a tie due to the cool match at Backlash last year. Drop toe hold into the shopping cart...gets 2????? 4. Crash....gotta list him since he was a big part of the division and invented the 24/7 thing, even if it sucks. 3. Al Snow....the guy seemed to like having the title and had the noted match against Holly in the Mississippi River. 2. The Road Dogg....the first guy to do something with the hardcore belt and have fun with it. He sucks at EVERYTHING else however. 1. Rob Van Dam....how many other guys have held the hardcore title and main evented at the same time? Also, RVD brought a more ring based style to the division. Gone for the most part was the dorky 24/7 stuff (unless an angle was needed) and gone was the garbagy brawling all over the arena. He did the most with the title.
Guest Kramerica Posted April 19, 2002 Report Posted April 19, 2002 I think anyone who held the belt for less than 2 minutes is a great WWF hardcore champion. All the others who held it for a longer period of time looked like pussies. And made the belt a joke.
Guest muzanisa Posted April 19, 2002 Report Posted April 19, 2002 In no particular order. Snow, Foley, Balckman, Crash and Raven I remember being Hardcore champ. I know Test, Bossman and innumerable others have won it and that's the problem. If they had the division set up like the cruiserweight where you were in that division and didn't really go outside it,dump the 24/7 because that got old after Crash and decide if it's a hardcore belt or a comedy belt it could be okay.
Guest Posted April 19, 2002 Report Posted April 19, 2002 1.Maven: Give the guy credit, he wins with a dropkick. He must be hardcore. 2.Steve Blackman: He was funny and serius at the same time. I mark for assclowns. 3.Al Snow: He knew the meaning of the word "cool". And that bit with Benjamin Franklin and Stev Blackman was funny. 4.Road Dogg: 1 of the funniest matches was with him and bossman and Al Snow. And this guy got in the way with a cell phone and was screaming his head off. 5.Big Vis: Why not
Guest Posted April 19, 2002 Report Posted April 19, 2002 Maven=Ratings do you actually like all those losers in your sig? 5 Raven 4 Rhyno 3 Blackman 2 Mankind 1 Crash
Guest razazteca Posted April 19, 2002 Report Posted April 19, 2002 1) Crash Holly - his comedy 24/7 matches were the funniest stuff ever produced by WWF....Crash vs Headbangers at the kids playland with the plastic balls. 2) Al Snow - continued the comedy with matches against Boss Man at a bar 3) Steve Blackman - Kali master stick fighter was very entertaining, best with the plunder 4) RVD - changed the direction and made it entertianing without the plunder. best matches were the PPV matches vs Hardy 5) Buh Buh Dudley - ECW ECW ECW + crazy white boy = entertainment
Guest Posted April 20, 2002 Report Posted April 20, 2002 Maven=Ratings do you actually like all those losers in your sig? Why not. If they made a stable i'd cheer for them.
Guest Posted April 20, 2002 Report Posted April 20, 2002 5. Hardcore Holly/Al Snow (Made the belt something and their matches were always good encounters till Boss Man got involved!) 4. Mankind (Crappy reign but he is a Hardcore GOD) 3. Crash Holly (Sure he turned it into a joke title for six months but seeing Samuel L help him keep the belt was quality) 2. Rhyno (Lengthy reign battled top stars like Jericho. Kane and Show and looked Hardcore) 1. RVD (Helped him place a solid foot on the WWF rung and made the belt more important than the Euro title over the summer)
Guest The Armchair Booker Posted April 20, 2002 Report Posted April 20, 2002 The only two people to make the belt seem like something worthwhile to have are they only people I put on my list. Road Dogg Crash Holly No particular order, I found Road Dogg's regin entertaining and Crash's funny. They added some shine to the belt so to say. I think Raven could have, but he was never given the chance.
Guest Austin3164life Posted April 20, 2002 Report Posted April 20, 2002 1. Rob Van Dam 2. Mankind 3. Rhyno 4. Al Snow 5. Steve Blackman Road Dogg is a close runner up to the list.....
