Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted March 20, 2004 I will say that the match itself (the thread's first discussed match) was highly enjoyable - I just watched it on Mick Foley's Greatest Hits And Misses: A Life In Wrestling today. And yes, that Chris Jericho promo was fantastic.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 Okay, watched it again. I liked how it really was like watching a different match than the typical WWF Mankind matches. Yeah, the Rock/Mankind Chairshot-a-thon was a really good match, but in here you actually see Cactus kicking ass. Cactus actually starts on the offensive, and HHH at first is toe-to-toe with him. He doesn't really try to outwrestle him, knowing that isn't going to be a good way to deal with him right away. Foley keeps most of the Mankind signature spots out of the match, not actually even approaching it as a match even. Oddly, when he had the chance to do the Cactus elbow, he didn't. He also had a chance to do an elbowdrop onto the chair when it on was Hunter's face, but opted for a legdrop instead. *shrug* Hunter going for ONE chairshot and Cactus getting knocked down looked brutal. It looked like Hunter really swung that mofo. However, it looked not-to-smart to immediately turn his back on Cactus. He should have known better than that even it if did knock him down. The cuffs were a nice nod to Mankind/Rock, and while it looked a little silly to have Cactus defending himself, it came off surprisingly well, showing Cactus' aggression and how desperate and dangerous he could be. The part by the entranceway had some cool looking spots, but I think there was a little too much time spent there (crowd didn't seem to like it). Rock's run-in didn't bother me too much. The barbed wire 2x4 stuff came off really cool, although if you pay close attention the "switch" (from real to the rubber-tipped) was somewhat given away because the second board's barbed wire was more tightly wrapped around it. The first one's was starting to come off. No biggie, though, and seeing the wire sticking to Cactus' shirt was a cool visual. The thumbtacks were an awesome addition, and seeing the guys walking around with thumbtacks in their boots/ass/etc was another cool visual. HHH needing two Pedigrees to win showed how much will and fight Cactus had in him. The table spot looked good, and the table not breaking--very wince-worthly. Although the monitors being right there and not being used at all seemed strange. Someone mentioned the realism, and my dad happened to walk in while it was on, got caught up in it, and asked if that was "real" or not. My dad HATES wrestling, keep in mind. The post-match stuff...was weird. Cactus takes him back to the ring to hit him with the barbed wire 2x4 once?! I expected a Piledriver onto the thumbtacks, or something to that persuasion, but Cactus just doing that to him kinda seemed weak. You just lost the title match to this guy, and that's all you're gonna do?!
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 One of my personal favorite world title matches ever. Its too bad WWE blurred it to shit on Foley's DVD, its the only reason I bought HHH's DVD (its an extra on there unblurred).

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 21, 2004 I have the match on tape from the original PPV broadcast, HHH: The Game DVD, and the newest Foley one, so I'm set incase 1 of the tapes/DVD's gets damaged. I agree Jerichos promos leading to RRumble were good btw, but I just wasn't able to get into the match. I thought The Rock was too stale by then and the JEricho reign really wasn't anything special. The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 I love the match. I had never seen it in it's entirety till today (on Foley's new DVD) and I must say that even though I knew the ending and alot of the spots, I still sat on the edge of my seat and just couldn't believe how much HHH really gave to the business around that time. I mean... christ...his leg had a huge fucking HOLE in it and he was still taking and giving out even more punishment than I thought humanly possible. On HHH's DVD, he says his mother was in the crowd and she couldn't believe how much blood he lost. HHH would never do that kind of thing today. Foley - well I love Foley. Period. He needs to adopt me. As for the legdrop onto the chair... it's actually a Cactus spot...he does it in alot of his matches. As Mankind, he does it to HBK at Mind Games (though that match WAS in Philly...so could have been a special thing). Cactus, Mankind, and Dude all used nearly the exact same movesets, just with different window dressing. Hell, he busted out the mandible claw in his final ECW match against Mikey (which I marked out for), probably as a prelude of things to come. Hell...until seeing the OTHER MSG street fight between HHH and Jack (from two or so before that...with the "3 faces" intro on the Titantron), I never noticed that it was announced that Dude Love was from "Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico" ...i found that so odd. (Oh...and that Foley DVD just plain RULES)

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 I must be the only person who doesn't get the love for Rock/Jericho from RR 2002. I don't, either. Hell, I didn't even like the title match from 1999. HHH/Cactus Jack from Rumble 2000 is officially my favorite match. Watching it snaps me out of my hhhate. I think part of the charm was the fact that they weren't using a big set for the PPV (which they usually don't at MSG PPV's), and it made it feel more intimate. It really looked like there was nothing between the fans and the action, and crowd involvement really made what was already a great performance seem even greater.
