I haven't watched either in about a year, but I think the KOTR 93 one was a better wrestled match, but the SS91 match has more emotion to it...Piper really sold it like Bret had everything on the line in that match.

I think the big difference is that Perfect was healthy for the KOTR 93 match, but was wrestling injured in 1991. That said, 1991 is probably more emotional to most people, but for me 1993 was bigger. Pretty much everyone I knew who followed wrestling in 1993 were either firmly Bret Hart fans or Mr. Perfect fans (I was the latter) and it made for a very heated match watching it live. It also has much better pyschology with both guys trying to fake each other out, without making it obvious. 1993 is the better pure match.

The other match from KOTR that tends to be overlooked is Shawn/Austin from 1997 which I feel is much better than the Wrestlemania match for many of the same reasons. Except in that case, both guys were hurt for the one match.

Well last night I decided to watch both matches as they have been getting a lot of talk around here. Well, here is what I came up with.....

Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect - Summerslam 1991

-First off I did enjoy the matwork in this match as I thought it pertained well to the storyline, and added a better dynamic for this matchup. Although, Bret's selling in this match is pretty lackluster, especially at the point in the match where Hennig hits the PerfectPlex. Considering that just minutes before hitting it, Perfect was working Bret's back pretty well. But the major thing for me in this match that I honestly didn't remember was how quickly Perfect gave up in the sharpshooter. THIS was unacceptable as far as an ending to this match, especially because the match didn't even hit the 20 minute mark. It was still entertaining though as the crowd at MSG was on fire, and Heenan was at his very best for this match.

Rating:***1/4

Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect - King of the Ring 1993

-Well, just to totally contradict what I said here yesterday, let me just say I was wrong. The King of the Ring match is totally better than the Summerslam, and here's why. First off the selling in this match by Bret is light years better than the Summerslam matchup. Perfect AND Bret really sell the knee well(Perfect get his knee worked on, and they play up the fact that Bret "hurt" his knee in the first round match against Razor Ramon), and nice use of the fact that Bret and Perfect work a spot where Perfect is twisting Bret's fingers up(they played up that Bret might have some broken fingers too)as well. They went for an awesome spot where both men would go over the top to the floor with a suplex. Too bad it was no sold by both guys though. That is the worst part of the match by far but I did like the ending with the double roll up and Bret getting the pin. AWESOME match, definately the better of the two.

They're both very good matches but I'd have to go with the Summerslam match being the better of the two. I give it **** to the KOTR *** 1/2. The main reason I give the SS match higher is because I liked the quick way Perfect tapped out to the sharpshooter made it look like that was a killer submission. I didn't like the way the KOTR match ended with the rollup, although that double suplex spot in the KOTR match was pretty sweet.

Also, did those two ever wrestle when they were in WCW?

I liked the SS match better because of the story / emotion, but yeah KOTR was awesome for workrate.

By the way, speaking of Hart / Hennig, what did you guys think of their Uncensored 1998 bout?
