I Was just wondering how long every body thinks it will take before RVD gets into the Main Event Picture and stays there. That is of course asuming he ever gets there. I Think that the WWF should have him hold the IC Title until Vengence Next year Forfeiting the Title saying he wants a the World Title finally winning it at Wrestlemaina. During that time he should have Feuds Against Eddy, Storm and Lesnar. What the WWF will do is another story he probably wont get there but if he does it wont be until January next year atleast.

Don't hold your breath.  RVD might be in main events on television and ocasionaly PPV, but I don't see him holding the title anytime soon for a couple reasons.

1. He is horrible on the mic and to be a champ, you have to have at least some skills.  Except for Sid and King Mable

2. He's not as big as guys like Angle, Taker, HHH, Austin, Rock.  Vince likes larger than life champions.  Guys like Michaels, Hart, and Jericho could draw massive amounts of heat in promos to get them over, but all RVD has going for him is flashy moves that impress the crowd and eventually he's either going to get stale with the crowd or hurt doing his high risk stuff.

3. I'm not sure if he still has heat with Taker and Angle, but if he does he would need to mend it quickly especially with Taker who is a locker room leader.

If he could get a bit of pissed off aggressive attitude going for hiimself he'd be there already. He's got the crowd impressed, he's got the cool with everything act down, now he needs to get seriously pissed off at someone or something and then express it the right way.

As it is he is fine being the main event of the mid card

You mean skills on the mic or in the ring?

Mabel was never the champion, btw.

I think we'll get a full blown feud RVD vs Lesnar, elevating both of them to Benoit/Jericho status.  Low uppercard used to elevate others or used as a threat to the champ.

What exactly is the basis for this whole "RVD has crappy mic skills" view?  People who say this have obviously never seen his great ECW interviews.  He would belittle his opponents and even his tag partner Sabu.

In the WWF he has had few chances to cut a promo on someone....the one time he did against Goldust it was funny as hell.  But was on Heat, thus no one saw it.

In terms of main events, I think he will main right after losing the IC title.

he will main event when he get a manager...maybe Paul E?  RVD needs a manager of champions like he had in ECW with Bill Alphonso!!!!  He called it down the middle baby!!! :D

RVD will not main event PPVs until the nWo leave town.

Um, I don't know... remember how long it took for Benoit and Jericho to get a shot? They were both in the position Rob is now...

On the mic.  His ring skills are what got the fans to dig him.

I have seen him promos in ECW and I didn't think they were that great.

By the way, look at some ECW interviews. Their funny as hell.

I don't agree that he has to have some sort of character makeover to move up the card.

He was great in ECW and the stuff with Austin was funny as well.

The laid back stoner who thinks he's the dogs bollocks and can back it up in the ring is just as good a character as the bionic redneck, peoples champ, cowardly heel, dangerous dork or any of the others in the WWF right now.

As long as they don't make him a garbage man.

Remains to be seen.  Last time he was pushed to main event he had to share the spot with Jericho.  Time will tell as it will with RVD.

[2. HBK]

Was the first person I listed along with Bret Hart and Chris Jericho.

I don't think RVD will be in the main event any time soon, but not because of a lack of push.  I heard that Heyman wants the WWF to recreate RVD's TV title run from ECW using the IC belt. So if that's true, he won't be goin for the championship for at least another two years. Not that it's a bad thing, as I would love to see him hold the belt for a very long time. As a matter of fact, I would love to see anyone hold any belt for a long time instead of the five week title reins we see now.  But that's another post for another time.

RVD's mic skills in ECW were pretty darn good--he doesn't get mic time in the WWF because I guess the WWF thinks he's over enough.

RVD has main-evented a few PPVs and a few Raws and Smackdowns, already.  But, can it really be THAT long before he main events?

Well, yes... actually...

"If he could get a bit of pissed off aggressive attitude going for hiimself he'd be there already."

He had that when he had his mini-feud with Jericho.  Until he got depushed.

I really don't see RVD being in the main-event for awhile... I mean the WWF has Mr. Intensity, Austin, Rock (well when June comes), Hogan... and maybe just maybe.. Angle and Jericho.  Plus, the NWO.

RVD main-eventing this year?  I doubt it.  And, that's a damn shame considering he's one of my favorite wrestlers and I'm a huge mark for him.

I disagree on the basis that he'd be just like everyone else in the M/E.

For me what differentiates RVD is he doesn't seem to be taking it seriously. When he came out against Jericho and just ran to the ring it seemed like something Angle or Edge would do not RVD.

I think part of the reason he's still over in spite of the de-push is that he is different from just about everyone else on the roster in the ring and character wise.

I have a few things to say about this.

1)  There is a difference between funny promos, and good promos that can progress a story.  RVD has major problems with the latter.

2)  There is no way that RVD wins the title before Chris Benoit.  The WWF has spent alot of time and money building up Benoit, and if not for the injury he likely would have been WWF Champ by now.  Benoit is getting nowhere near the title for at least a few months after he returns, so it looks like a long wait for RVD.

3)  RVD has no political pull whatsoever.  Which brings to mind the question, why would you want him to main event?  If RVD gets to main event anytime soon, it will only be because HHH wants to prove he can't.

4)  Forfeiting the IC Title is the dumbest thing the WWF could do.  You might as well kill the title right there.  You're saying that RVD shouldn't even job, just to give the title to somebody like Brock Lesnar?

5)  RVD refused to sign a contract extension with the WWF.  I know his contract doesn't run out for awhile, but the move probably prohibits Vince from giving him the title until he renews it.  If RVD is giving Vince signals that he plans on leaving, then I doubt Vince will put the Undisputed Title on him.  Its just the way Vince works.

6)  Too many faces.  HHH, Rock, Hogan, Austin & most likely the returning Benoit are all top faces.  Taker seems on the verge of a face turn.  RVD is a face.  RVD cannot play a heel at all, so he has to wait for some of the other guys to turn heel if he wants any shot at the main event.  Rock won't turn heel anytime soon, but he will be gone for awhile which is a plus.  Unfortunately Rock is on Smackdown, so it doesn't help RVD any.  By the time the split is over, Rock will probably be back.  HHH might turn heel, but Taker's turn will counter that.  Fighting the NWO is not a good thing, so that is not an option.  That leaves HHH to feud with, and when he is not spending half his time feuding with Smackdown guys, he will be fighting the increasingly pissed off Austin & Taker.  Unless there is some injuries, or some of the wrestlers above him retire (Austin, Hogan & Taker come to mind), RVD won't be main eventing.  He had a nice little run in the fall as a semi-main eventer, but that was with both Benoit & HHH hurt, before the NWO came in, and at a time when Vince was willing to do anything after the failed Angle face push.  If the WWF had the healthy roster that they have now, there is no way RVD would have been main eventing.

Well there's no reason to make him a main eventer anytime soon. He will do fine at IC level for now. But within 3 years he will be a main eventer and stay there. By that time Hogan will be gone, Rock will probably be gone, Austin and Undertaker will most likely retire by then. Angle, Beniot and Jericho would likely take the spots of the 3 that are most likely to be gone. Even if Rock did stay he'd still be doing other outside stuff so WWF will still need another main eventer or two and i'm sure RVD will be one the guys at the top of the list.

Right.  Three years is about the timeframe we are looking at.  It will be two years at the least.

The main event scene in the wwf it too packed all ready.  RVD does just fine in the midcard and will be elevated when the all ready old wwf main eventers retire.

I think that Rob Van Dam is best in the high mid-card. That way, he can feud with anyone, which is a good thing, and he is less likely to be overthrown by politics. I mean, if he doesn't want the WWF title, HHH can't keep it from him.

I think him be able to feud with everyone is a good thing too. Much like in ECW, when he had feuds with non main eventers (Balls Mahoney, Jerry Lynn) but could also have feuds with the main eventers at the time. This is how it should work in the WWF as well. That away, he can elevate people as well. He makes the Intercontinental title seem to mean more to me. Just him having it. I wish that he would wear it around his waist as opposed to around his shoulder though.

I dunno about the comment saying RVD can't do a promo that advances a feud.  In ECW he cut promos that advanced feuds with Lynn and Sabu...you can argue that his whole condescending attitude towards Sabu advanced their bizarre feud/partnership.

As far as main events go, RVD could get the token push later in the year if he loses the IC.

The difference with Benoit and RVD is that Benoit is such a good worker even without the great mic skills he can pull off a face or heel turn. Little nuances like that are what make the great workers. RVD needs the mic skills to pull that off, unless he learns to totally re-invents his ring style.

Go back and watch the RVD segment from the Alliance storyline where he walks into Austin and Debra's dressing room to talk about their tag match together later in the show. I have NEVER heard so many "ummm"s used during a wrestling promo before (showing lack of concentration, among other things), and I am not exagerating. I've spent some time doing dramatic acting and know "umm"s are the one thing you must avoid above all else, they are totally amateurish.

Ok...go back and watch ECW Barely Legal and see RVD cut 2 great promos that:

1.  Define his character for the next few years

2.  Sells the Alfonso heel turn perfectly

3.  Puts heat on him and Sabu that would last for a long time

"Smarks" may think so, but I almost every mark I know said that Angle/Benoit at WrestleMania X7 was boring. RVD's spotfest style gets over more with casual fans that Benoit's technical wrestling anyday.

Ehh, if Benoit wanted to he could go spot for spot with RVD no doubt. I've seen him do it. The thing is, he doesn't just work a technical style.

1)  I don't think RVD has a problem with this.  I mean, hell... some of his promos on ECW on TNN were "serious" and progressed the storyline.  The thing is... RVD's *character* really doesn't call for such a thing.  RVD is suppose to be a laid-back ass-kicking guy who's always "cool".  He's job isn't to talk.. it's to win.  That's why I say RVD needs someone like Heyman or Alfonso to be in his corner, although he's doing damned good by himself right now.

2) That is something I can agree on.  They should've put the title on him when it was Benoit w/ Shane against the Rock, IMHO.  Though, I don't know if his neck was bothering him then or not...

3) This is other thing that I can agree on, but if the WWF keeps building up RVD like they are... showing him stuff, improving his style, RVD could easily show how ready he was for the main event.

4)  Brock Lesnar... is well Brock.  It really boils down to how the WWF builds up Brock and how long RVD has held the title.  Maybe when the WWF is ABOUT to elevate RVD to the main-event then he could lose to someone like Brock Lesnar.

5) No one knows why he didn't sign the contract extension--not enough money... not a gurateeded title shot/reign.. whatever.  This could leave an ill taste in Vince's mouth and effect RVD's "push"...

6)  Yes, there are a shitload of faces.  But, let's face it... who's really MORE over than RVD?  I'd say Rock (BARELY), Austin, and Hogan.  RVD is more over than some of the "top" WWF faces.  Let's analyze... Rock:  He's more over than RVD in.. what?  Promos.  Entrances.  Generally, right?  But everytime there was a RVD/Rocky match I thought the chants for each were about even.

Sorry... that rant didn't have anything to do with RVD's main-eventing anytime soon or not.  That was just a huge RVD-mark maturly posting to a RVD-hater.  :D

But, I do agree... RVD isn't going to main-eventing anytime soon.  He might win King of the Ring, and that might be the stepping-stone he needs.  I'll say 2 years at the most... hell, if the WWF wants to build a huge star quickly than RVD might be in the ME at WMXX.  Maybe.  But, until then?  I seriously doubt it.  :(
