You were thinking of No Way Out 2002 and the nWo storyline. This was No Way Out 2003.

 

Kurt and Team Angle v. Benoit/Lesnar/Edge. Edge had neck surgery, so they wrote him out of the match with an injury storyline.

 

Why they didn't put Eddie, Rhyno, or even Funaki in there totally boggles my mind.

Wasn't Eddie a heel at this time? It wouldn't make much sense to team with Benoit and Brock if he was.

 

Although since they did bring eventually back Rhyno as Benoit's tag partner, I have no clue why they didn't just do it here.

I don't know about the first question. But for the second the only thing that I can think of is to make Brock look strong going into the Wrestlemania main event. I know that he just won the Rumble the monh earlier but that's really the only thing I can think of.
