Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I'm using the free edition of ZoneAlarm, but I'm having some minor problems. I can't send or receive files over AIM. Whenever I try to send a file, I receive a message saying something along the lines of "the connection could not be reached" because of my firewall. I've tried going into ZA and giving AIM access permission, but that doesn't do anything. I've even tried turning ZA off, but I still can't send or receive files over AIM. I'm also having trouble configuring ZA to work properly with BitTorrent clients. I tried giving BT access permission, but my downloads are extremely slow. The highest DL speed that I reached was something like 10 kbs. I've read something about allowing the BT client to have access to ports, but I can't figure out how to allow ZA to do that. MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 If ZA is off and you still can't do it.... Do you have a router? If you have XP is the XP firewall on? BitTorrent will probably need some advanced rules set up.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted March 28, 2004 Nope. I don't have a router and I'm not using the XP firewall.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I would shutdown ZA and then maybe try uninstalling it and see if things return to normal. If so then maybe try using Kerio.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted March 28, 2004 I just tried that, but it didn't solve my problem. I'll try switching to another firewall, like Sygate or Kerio, as you suggested. Even if that doesn't work, thanks for your help.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2004 If it still isn't working after ZA is uninstalling it than that makes me wonder if there is something odd with AIM or part of ZA is still running.
