Edge and Benoit were bad feuds because they tried to make them funny.

There was a comedy feud involving Benoit??????

 

Did I miss something?

Fall 2002. Both men were blithering, bumbling idiots.

Ugh. That was so bad. They took the two best wrestlers on the show (and arguably, the two most popular even though neither were faces at the time) and made them into the Two Stooges.

 

And it wasn't even really funny or them being able to laugh at themselves like Austin/Angle, they just looked bad while Steph berated them. Remember when they couldn't decide who got to keep the trophy from the tag tournament, and Steph bitch-slapped them both?

 

The only time I did laugh was when Angle tried to hug Benoit after a match, and Benoit had this funny "get the fuck off of me" look on his face. Other than that, it was garbage.

He played that character SO FUCKING GOOD. The fans realized how fucking funny he is so they started cheering him like a month after he came back and then they were totally for him at Backlash.

The problem was more like that Vince forgot about the dynamics of the "cool heel" and went back to the Hogan days.

I enjoyed the austin/angle encounters just as much as their actual matches (the best being summerslam 01). I remember one not mentioned in this post. it had me in tears of laughter. The night after KOTR 01 I think (I have it on tape somewhere). Austin and Angle in the ring with vince.

 

"Austin: I'm saying, I think you're a jackass

Angle: No, I'm a hero.

Austin: You're a jackass.

Angle: I'm a hero

Austin: Jackass

Angle: Hero

Austin: Jackass

Angle: Hero

 

then vince got mad and yelled at them both and they both acting like they were going to fight and then they each hugged vince.

 

 

remember the creepy bit a couple weekes before when austin hugged vince backstage. The look on Austin's face was bizzare to say the least.

 

 

and the night of the ecw return/alliance formation, angle is slated to take on Booker T for the WCW title and confronts him backstage

Hey, that segment had one redeemable aspect - Benoit no-selling Steph's SLAP OF PAINFUL AGONIZING DOOM~! and giving her a "That's all you got, bitch?" look. This was just eight or so months after then-'co-owner' Ric Flair sold a Steph slap like he had been shot.

I just remembered AS's reaction to the Smackdown spoiler report that week regarding that segment:

 

"I fucking give up. "

And as much as I blame the unearned Lesnar push, that feud contributed to my boycott.
