U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club...

Recommended Posts

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is right across the street from my school, Southampton College. They have a deal with the school about college kids working there, but they don't get paid.

I could go to some office tomorrow and apply for the job. However, I don't know if I should take a week off of work, where I get paid good money, to work for free. But at the same time, I could meet some of the best golfers in the world.

What does everyone else think?

Don't bother mate. You won't "meet" anyone worthwhile at all. I volunteered at the President's Cup at Royal Melbourne in 1999 and I'm a member of the club. All I did was hang out at the driving range and pick up balls and shit. Sure, you feel like you're kind of important, but you're not, and the players agree. Think about it, do you really think they actually hang out with fucking volunteers at golf courses every damn week?!?

Unless you'll be able to meet players, don't bother. Especially if it's for a week. On Long Island, working for money >>>>>>>>>>>> working for free.

BTW, where do you work, regularly? I might need a job :).

If I were to get any job there, maybe it would be the people who hold up the signs that have the golfer's name and how well they are doing. But that is a long shot to get.

I work at Old Town Crossing in Souhampton, it is a antique store.

If anything I'll just sneak onto the golf course and watch. There are plenty of ways to get on it, even though my pops tells me I'm gonna get arrested for trying it.

bah, just streak across the 18th green on the final day, during the last pair. You'll get on TV for sure

In my experience, that job goes to pennant players and such who are members of the club. You will be doing shit work and not getting money for it. Just watch the golf. On the sneaking in thing, be careful, I'm sure you don't need to be told how crazy security and shit are right now, especially around celebrities and such.

If you're a student or just need to pad your resume then I'd say go for it, since volunteer work, especially something like this, looks pretty good. Otherwise, it's not worth a week without pay and possible losing your job over.

It is just that I would miss out of $480 in one week, which isn't including tips.

Chances are I won't do it, but I just wanted to know what other people think.
