Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 The game is released either today or tomorrow, depending on who you believe. Basically, I'm looking for opinions of the online mode that doesn't come from a Gamefaqs board.
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Most stores I've spoken to say tomorrow, April 1, for the release.
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Computers at Blockbuster have the date pushed back to April 9th. I don't know if that is the same everywhere, because sometimes Blockbuster is late, but I am curious, as I am waiting for my pre-order on it from EB (who said they will call when they have it). Anya 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 I'll pick it up Friday. I got the guide tonight though.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 I was gonna get it the first day, but I just dropped $650 on car repairs, so I will likely hold off until I get back from my disneyland trip. So I am looking around the April 9th-12th time frame.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 I'll be holding out until then as well because next week I, too, will be in Florida.

dubq 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 I'm gonna go do a run of the local stores here in Toronto this afternoon, KANE, so I'll let you know what the situation is in these parts. Chances are if we have it, then most of the States will have it as well.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Cool. I'm just loving the premise of playing online with three other people. Like at first, you're alone, and then you hear shots coming from the adjacent room, then run in there and team up with someone else. And if I don't make it, I can come back as a zombie to terrorize the survivors. You can even use nail guns to board up doors so zombies can't get through, or move furniture in the way. There are already stories of selfish players who fled a fight and proceeded to board up a door on someone else in a room with zombies. A classic survival-horror movie asshole. I just bought a copy for 59 bux Canadian at EB Games. So it should be pretty widespread by now...
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Cool. So what's the verdict?
dubq 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 KANE - I have to say, it's fucking great. I've only played single player so far - I don't have a network adapter for my PS2, but I am going to borrow a friends soon before I go buy my own, just to see - but single player is pretty damn good. The zombies.. just.. keep.. coming.. and coming! It's awesome! I could sit here all day and plow down the undead if I had infinite ammo. They've also added some cool secondary attacks. The cop can do this shoulder block thing as well as a front kick. Very usefull for knocking zombies away. You can also pick up pipes and brooms and other shit to use as weapons. Also, there was something strangely satisfying about hiding in a locker and watching my "partners" get eaten alive... okay, so I'm a little sadistic when it comes to these games, so what?! I'd say that this one is a definite purchase for any RE fan..
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Yeah, I'll probably be the cop or the bouncer just because I need someone that can take a lot of hits. It's cool that all the characters have their strenghts and weaknesses. The screenshot I saw of the janitor brandishing a broom was pretty funny, too. I might just have to go out and pick this up tomorrow...
dubq 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Go for it dude. I haven't been disappointed with anything I've come across so far. The NPC's are even less stupid then I thought they'd be. They actually make an attempt to save you when you're getting attacked, or if you're hanging off a ledge they'll pull you up if you calll them over, or crawling on the floor and they'll help you up and support you until you've healed a bit. Very cool touches. I've also unlocked the second scenario.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2004 I heard you can't communicate with your online team via the headphones, just the pre-installed generic sayings that the gamemakers put in the game beforehand. This sucks, but since I don't have the game yet, I may be making more of a big deal about it then need be. I need to find a report from someone has done the online stuff. Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2004 I heard you can't communicate with your online team via the headphones, just the pre-installed generic sayings that the gamemakers put in the game beforehand. This sucks, but since I don't have the game yet, I may be making more of a big deal about it then need be. I need to find a report from someone has done the online stuff. There's a good reason for that. You don't want veterans telling you exactly how to solve a puzzle and ruining all the fun. I got the game today, but didn't get to play online yet. The server got overloaded with a huge wave of people who just got the game today. Who knows how long they'll be down for. Blech.
Anya 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 I am just playing single player, but so far I really like it. Maybe the best since 3. Edit: I beat it tonight. Short, but good.
dubq 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 I tried out Network play last night, pretty cool. I was Kevin and only had one partner 'Alyssa' - we ran out of ammo pretty fast outside of J's Bar and soon became zombies. For about five minutes we were both trying to kill an NPC RPD officer... but after a while the game just ended and went back to the selection screen. It was a pretty cool first online console gaming experience for me, so I'm going to be picking up my own network adapter soon [i'm using a friends right now]. My username is 'vivisect6' if anyone ever wants to kill some zombies with me.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted April 5, 2004 I got it this weekend, and it's pretty fucking sweet. I haven't had too much trouble so far, but it's getting harder. I don't have network capabilities, but it does sound great.....from what I've heard.
dubq 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Wow, all I've got to say is that after playing with the AI characters and then going online any playing with other people.. it's way easier to deal with people online. I find it hard as hell to get the CPU to do what you need them to do most of the time. Last night, I was playing as Yoko and someone else was Mark.. we made it pretty much to the end of the Below Freezing Point level, but I think that he had to disconnect because his character just suddenly dropped dead. Still did pretty good. The amount of unlockables in this game is insane, as well. I love that you can even play as NPC characters if you unlock them. :) How many of you have the online adapter? We should hook up for a game or two in the near future. Or even, get a mod to change this to the OAO RE:Outbreak Network Gaming Thread or something... dubq 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2004 FYI: Resident Evil Outbreak 2 From: Eurogamer Resi Evil Outbreak 2 confirmed. Capcom is poised to officially unveil a sequel to Resident Evil Outbreak in the next few days, and hopes are that Europe will get to experience the game online this time around. According to a report in this week's Famitsu, the survival horror title will remain online, and retain some if not all of the original game's eight characters. Speaking to Eurogamer today, sources close to the publisher indicated that a bigger announcement was planned for sometime between now and E3 next month. Capcom Eurosoft declined to comment. Although Resident Evil Outbreak recently arrived in the States, it won't be released in Europe until September, and Capcom recently confirmed that PAL PS2 owners would not be able to take the game's multiplayer adventure online. However, in announcing this, the publisher also expressed its ambition to overcome the issues that stood in the way on this occasion. "Right now a number of engineers from Japan are in Europe talking to various ISPs, and we hope that it will only be a number of months before we have an online PS2 game up and running," a spokesperson said at the time. All of which bodes well for the Outbreak sequel's future in Europe. Expect to hear more about Resident Evil Outbreak 2 in the near future.
