MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 G Mail Google approach to email Gmail is an experiment in a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that you should never have to delete mail and you should always be able to find the message you want. The key features are: Search, don't sort. Use Google search to find the exact message you want, no matter when it was sent or received. Don't throw anything away. 1000 megabytes of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message. Keep it all in context. Each message is grouped with all its replies and displayed as a conversation. No pop-up ads. No banners. You see only relevant text ads and links to related web pages of interest ---- However.. But there's a catch to the e-mail. Hoping to turn a profit from the service — dubbed Gmail — privately held Google has programmed its computers to dissect the topics being discussed in the e-mails and then deliver text-based ads related to the subjects. For instance, an e-mail from one friend to another discussing an upcoming concert might prompt Google to include an advertising link from a ticketing agency. Good idea or not? Im happy with my yahoo email account. I still have a 6mb account which seemed to be a grandfathered in size (new accounts are 4mb) and 6mb is enough space for me (I mostly get spam which gets sent to the junk folder and I delete periodically). I imagine if I signed up for this I wouldn't get as much junk mail for a while but it wouldn't stay like that for long. I should mention its still in beta and they aren't letting people directly sign up yet.
JJMc 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2004 Yeah, I'm juiced in with 6 MB too, and I don't save most of my messages anyway. Plus I also use Hotmail. I really don't like how they blatantly look at your messages, though.
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted April 3, 2004 My 6MB Yahoo account never gets above 8% full, anyway. Besides, if I went with G-Mail, I probably wouldn't get to have my .ca extension, AND I NEED IT SO~
