Austin Aries d. John Walters con 450

Striker and Ace Darling won the match to get a shot at the ECWA Tag Team titles. Contest included: LOW KI JAPANESE POOL BOY PRINCE NANA RUFFHOUSE RIVERA JOHNNY MAXX NICK MALAKAI FREAK NASTTY BRIAN XL CHEETAH MASTER

BIG SKY MOZART FONTAINE SHAOLIN WRECKING CREW J-BUSTA THE MAXIMOS MIKE FURY MIKE MAYHEM MR. OOH LA LA XERO LOUIE FARAONE LUCIAN BIG BENNY

The Valedictorians (Billy Bax and Rob Eckos) d. Darling/Striker to retain the titles.

Super 8 Final:

Christopher Daniels d. Austin Aries to become the first 2-time Super 8 Champion.

Very, very strange that they decided to give the win to Daniels, who is already an international superstar and WON the thing already, instead of somebody like Aries or Walters who could have used the win as a springboard to majorly advance their careers.

Here's a possible justification from Rob "Bob" Naylor:

I realize I'm in the minority here...but I think it was the right thing for Daniels to go over....

ECWA has been in business for 35 years for a reason....and Kettner knows what he is doing when it comes to promoting locally to his little niche audience. Sure, in the past he used the tourney to showcase UNTAPPED talent. It is one reason I've always enjoyed these shows dating back to the Steve Bradley, Hardy Boys Super 8....

Daniels is a guy who Kettner really respects, a guy who has often taken Kettner bookings over more HIGH PROFILE ones with NET popular companies, and a pretty good draw for Kettner who appreciates and always remembered where he came from.

He held the belt for most of 2003 and now can be the lead draw again this year for Kettner, who doesn't have the budget other places have to fly people in.

I think it is a smart move, if not the most POLITICAL or net-friendly move for HIS business over the next year.

I don't get that at all, Aries really could have benefited from Daniels putting him over, oh well at least it'll be a great match to watch on tape.

ehh, the show had no namepower. I don't think Daniels putting Aries over would have done much for ECWA. Plus why have former winners in the tourney if there's no chance of them going over.

I think ECWA is aware that WWE signs whoever wins the tourny, and new Daniels would turn WWE down.

WTF...

Anyways, Aries wasn't an ECWA regular so I guess it was good buisness to put Daniels over. I would have to agree with Naylor on this one.

Daniels going over seems like a nod to the core ECWA fanbase. Kettner has said leading up to the tournament that Daniels was part of the tournament because he's the most requested non-regular from ECWA regulars. It seems like a good compromise. The fans that just care about the Super 8 (and not really ECWA as a whole) are okay with Daniels being in the tournament because he'll have good matches. The ECWA fanbase is happy because they like Daniels. It is a win/win situation. Plus, it is good to ocassionally have someone win who you know you are going to use often so the tournament can be built off and mean something in the long run to those who follow ECWA monthly.

Plus, the storyline is that after his match with Daniels, Kruel said he is a fighting champion who shouldn't lose no matter what, so he is leaving his ECWA championship with Daniels. Daniels (who held the title most of 2003) picked it up and left it. To have him lose to Austin Aires after that wouldn't make much sense.

No, that rarely ever happens. Low-Ki, Donavon Morgan, and of course the Fallen Angel have all won it in the past, and never got a WWE contract.

Dux injured himself during last week's Velocity taping.

Daniels was really the best choice for the win, although I would guess Dux would have taken it if he hadn't been injured.

I saw Dux a couple times in 2001 at BCW, and a few times on Velocity. While he can he entertaining as all hell, I don't remember him being great in the ring...but not bad.

Yes, that is exactly what happens.

I would have wanted Walters to win, he can really use a big win like this to boost his career.
