The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 The Grizzlies are owned by a billionaire businessman from Chicago, who had initially planned to move the Vancouver team to Rosemont. But Reinsdorf intervened and said Chicago couldn't handle two teams. This comes from the man who owns the Chicago White Sox, who dwell in the shadow of the Cubs. With the recent success of the team, I'm bitter that I can't have a third choice locally between the embarassing Bulls and the pedestrian Bucks. A team for the Northwest suburbs could work. I mean, the Islanders and Devils set up shop YEARS after the Rangers were established, and the greater metropolitan area's got Manhattan beat 7 to 1 in Cups since the Isles' arrival. I wouldn't want the Grizzlies name though. Wouldn't work with the Bears already around. It'd have been better if they just reinvented themselves completely. This year, I'll root for what could've been my team.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Well look at it this way... I'm sorry, at the moment, I can think of no real positive the Bulls have over the Grizzlies. Uh...The Bulls have a GREAT point guard in Hinrich. Eh? Eh?

ant_7000 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Yeah, I was hoping the Grizz would've been a Illinois team. I wish the Grizz was on national tv so I can see White Choclate play.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 It just annoys me that the Chicago sports fans have had to be stuck with the pathetic Bulls the Jerrys gave us in 1999. I think a Northwest Suburbs team would've made perfect sense because if you market specifically to that crowd, you're marketing to the people who have a lot more disposable income than their south side/south suburbs brethren. People would rather go to the Rosemont Horizon, a fine venue in its own right (minus their strongly dyed blue sno-cones that will leave your toilet looking like you're shitting 2000 Flushes) in its innocuous location than downtown to the United Center. If East Rutherford, Newark, and Hackensack can have major league represenation, why not Des Plaines, Schaumburg, and Arlington Heights?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 I wonder if the Bulls will ever rise to prominence again? Yeah that sucks they could've been your team. Hell I don't have a team around here. The closest I have is Dallas. And they're alright but I'll just move a few miles south and root for San Antonio.
