There's infinite contradictions about where the state might be ... that's the whole joke, so even the most anal of fans (the ones comparable to Trekkies or DeadHeads) can't 'prove' where Springfield is.

For example, the episode where Bart becomes a Scout and him, Homer, and the Flanders' are stuck in the ocean, they show a map of where all the Krusty Burgers are. The ocean that they're in is the Atlantic, so they'd be East Coasters . But, like 2GOLD says, they drive to Vegas in a day. Which kind of rules out the whole East Coast thing.

Not to mention they want to fly into Delaware, despite the fact Delaware doesn't have a commercial airport here as far as I know. Unless it's in Wilmington, but I do believe only Private Jets such as the AIR WWE fly into there.

This is what I love about the Simpsons. None of it makes a lick of sense when it comes to the locations they are headed too.

For one thing, it wasn't Wilmington because Lisa said she wanted to go to Wilmington when they got there. But honestly, if you wanted to end up in Delaware, and you flew somewhere close and then traveled from there to Delaware, you'd still say you were flying to Delaware wouldn't you?

Cept in the episode, Homer got pissed about a tax while trying to buy tickets on "Delaware Air" which one would logically assume was in Delaware.

And no, I would say I was flying to Baltimore or Philly and then driving to Delaware.

Hm. I'd say I was flying to Delaware. Fight Club was supposedly in Wilmington.

Most people I know favor an Illinois location for Springfield. I used to live in Springfield, Illinois. For the real life counterpart of a wacky cartoon city, it's actually not too far off.

What? Hold on.

FIGHT CLUB was based on Wilmington, Delaware??

I knew they mentioned Delaware, but I thought they said a Fight Club had sprung up in Delaware but not they were in Delaware.

Wow, that'll show Wayne's World!

Groening said it's not 1 state. The town in Oregon is essentially the model town he used.

Either way it's fun conversasion.

They had a hurricane in the town, and the town celebrated it's bicentennial in like 1995 or 1996.

If you watch all the dvd supplements, they mention it there somewhere. I think the thing was that it was supposed to be ambiguous like Springfield, but Chuck Palaniuk will tell you it's based on Wilmington (because apparently the headquarters of some credit card companies are there), and they worked some subtle references to it into the movie.
