Weekend boxoffice report. April 9-11

Recommended Posts

Didn't I say Jersey Girl would ultimately bomb? Nice staying power, huh Kev?

Not this argument again...

But could call though.

He said he wanted staying power, and that is what he was banking on. It hasn't stayed...not even close.

Smith should do a gutsy film, maybe something that QT or MS style.

Anyone else see the irony in Jesus beating HELLboy?

Anyway, The Girl Next Door will probably lose its ass. They've been advertising it to hell and it got a poor first week. I've been seeing ads for it for over a month now. You don't see that so much anymore.

No I don't see the irony, since Hellboy fought against what he was born to do and is a good guy.

Yes, Hellboy is a good series (it's actually several different miniseries), if you're into that sort of thing (specifically, if you're into the horror cum super hero genre).

opefully this means, with the unsuccessful run of EURO TRIP, that the teen gross out comedy is finally starting to die off.

Don't count on it. Those things don't cost much to make, so it's not too hard to recover their expenses.

I figured that Passion would spike this week; but I hope that Hellboy makes enough in the long run (at the box office and through DVD sales) to warrant a sequel - it was just a fun, fun popcorn flick and I'd love to see another one.

"Johnson Family Vacation" had the highest per screen average in the top ten!

Cedric beat Jesus!

On Easter weekend!

Stop trolling. That's all you've been doing in these box office reports with your stupid comments. "Jesus" came back from number 6 to number 1 and here you are trolling again. No one beat Jesus this weekend, Easter weekend. And none of these movies will make as much money.

Well, Johnson Family Vacation did have the highest per screen average in the top ten.

Passion averaged $5,334 per screen in 3,203 theaters.

JFV averaged $6,985 per screen in 1,317 theaters.

That is pretty damn good. If JFV was in 3,203 theaters x the $6,985 per screen average, it would have made about $22 million. Granted if it were in more theaters, it might not have filled them up as much, but that is just a rough estimate.

So JFV did beat the Passion, in one catagory.

Thank you

No one said Cedric beat Jesus in overall, but he did beat the film in per screen average.

That's not trolling, that's stating a damn fact.

Not like Cedric would have beat "The Passion" overall but the per screen average was beyond impressive for a weekend "The Passion" was expected to dominate both catergories.

Only "Johnson Family" competed with "The Passion" in any of the catergories and it beat it.

So yes, Cedric beat out the Jesus.

Meh, I'm just not into comic books. They never really did anything for me.

Besides, my friend Brad is a hardcore comic book fan and he hates it when comic books becomes a movie. He saw X-Men and thought it was a horrible movie. "The movie ruined the comic book and nothing good came out of it." He won't even see X-2, even though I tell him all the time that it was one of the best action movies I've ever seen.

I figured that Passion would spike this week; but I hope that Hellboy makes enough in the long run (at the box office and through DVD sales) to warrant a sequel - it was just a fun, fun popcorn flick and I'd love to see another one.

Well, Hellboy's budget was $66 million and it cost $25 million to promote it. Plus it dropped 52% from last week, so that is never a good sign.

It doesn't help that the Punisher and Kill Bill Vol 2 is coming out next week, which draws the same audience as Hellboy does. I can see it making around $60 million, but that doesn't count overseas and DVD sales.

Passion passed Nemo and Two Towers this weekend. It is now number 8 overall and it will pass Jurassic Park sometime this week since it is only $3 million behind it. I can see it making around $380 million domestic, making it number 6 overall. I don't think it can make another $50 million, but then again you never know with America.

It has only made $105 million overseas, so it must not be released in a lot of countries yet. Titanic made $1.2 billion overseas, so Passion is going to make a big run overseas anytime now.

The Girl Next Door was hardly another gross-out teen comedy. It was actually VERY good, with a tremendous soundtrack. What non-comedic-related flaws there were in it I was able to forgive easily. Definitely worth going out to see.
