I was watching the Ultimate Ric Flair Collection and I was on the match Flair vs. Steamboat the one that was 2 out of 3 falls. Well while I was watching that match I noticed something really funny about it. When Ric had Steamboat in the figure four, it was around 40 minutes into the match, Steamboat was trying to get momentum by smacking the ground, but he looked like he was tapping out. Indeed its stupid but I thought I would share it with you. Well the really funny thing about was the refs face. He looked so confused.......

"Tapping out" didn't really exist then ... people smacked on the ground all the time to show pain, gain momentum, etc. It was only when UFC became more visible did the act of tapping out become an accepted means of giving up.

I don't think it was until Ken Shamrock showed up in the WWF that "tapping out" ended a match.

It was actually WCW who started that, I saw Dean Malenko win the Cruiserweight Title from Ultimo Dragon at a Clash Of Champions the week before Souled Out 97 because Dragon tapped out to the Cloverleaf and Regal and Masahiro Chono used to win by tap out as well.

or....during the same time when Shamrock was involved with wrestling.

Speaking of this feud, I was hugely disappointed by the finish of their Spring Stampede bout from 1994.

Who cares, either way someone stole it from UFC.

I personally hate the "tap out" anyone can do that. I miss the old days when you had to say you gave up or at least nodded yes.

Just the finish? The match itself is nearly unwatchable, especially the uber boring headlocks from hell.

I always felt that the 1994 matches all had the feeling of both men waiting for the match to really get going --- and it never really got going. Like a REALLY long "feeling-out" process.

I always got that feeling too. What a terrible way to have the match come off as two guys who fought each other 1000's of times wouldn't have to feel nothing out.......THEY FOUGHT 1000'S OF TIMES!!!!!!

Plus, what if you "accidentally" start tapping, then its a case of a "blind" ref
